If you have the necessary program (Photoshop, Paintshop Pro), I recommend cropping it before shrinking the image- get rid of a lot of the empty orange space, center the figure. Even cutting it slightly above waist level would help.

Looks like the Tick: R.I.P. has become the unofficial theme for January. Really sad, too. I would've loved to have seen more TICK on television. I guess reruns of the cartoon on Teletoon will have to do. Nice job on the avatar, Cal. Very somber and appopriate for the Tick.

I think the Chronicle is the best show since the Lone Gunmen. The show really has heart, too, which will go a long way in helping this series last.

And thanks for the compliments on the avatar! Yeah, it is kinda sad to have this as our unofficial theme this month!

I dunno why it's bigger. All my avatars in the past have been 1x1 in Corel Photo Paint, and I set this one to be 1x0.96, so it should be a slight bit smaller than my past avatars. I am just as confused. The file looks the right size on my computer (I mean before I uploaded it)

May can be something with Mothers Day
June could be for Father's Day
July can be patriotic
August can be a summer avatar, this is when it's really hot
September can be something for 9/11
October can be non-scary things that are meant to be scary
November can be for Thanksgiving
December could be for Christmas or any other holiday

For theme in an upcoming month, how about we have avatars of cartoon characters that look disturbingly similar to us? I thought of that b/c I have a Daria one in the works, and...quite frankly, it does disturb me how much I resemble her in manner and appearance.

Be honest; if you think you look like Homer Simpson, so be it. If you bear a striking resemblance to Poison Ivy, go for it.

As a practical matter it's not possible. When you change your avatar it changes for your old posts as well. So there are only two ways you could 'enter' mulitple avatars: Ask people to remember what the one(s) not in use looked like and vote for them (not really a practical thing to suggest) or register multiple times as different users (which is forbidden around here).

Well, the only person I ever disqualified was Stinky Cat. He changed to a non-contest avatar in the middle of a contest and also (for other reasons) got himself banned.

I don't see anything wrong with changing your entry in the middle of the contest--when people go to vote they will almost certainly look at your latest avatar and vote accordingly.

that and I've started using GIMP to do my resizeing/converting..which is a very powerful freeware graphics program...for Linux.

I just want to thank naraht for making all these swell avatars available for us to use. I have my next avatar already lined (I think - possibly <a href="http://naraht.vectorstar.net/avatars/pp2-nnf.jpg">this one</a>) and I just think he's doing a great job. I may try and convince Brian & Harley to make some sort of 'official avatar' section of the site (with instructions, pics, example...) - which I think would help out us veterans and the newbies!

Thanx nar! It won't be for another week or so. Some people are still getting used to the name change and by keepin gup the DG pic a bit longer, it'll help them associate my name with that pic, the one I used when I had my old username. If you put up any more Spider-Man -- let us know!! Yer doing a great service!

That one was definatly a classic, and I'll return to it. I have it saved so I can revisit it from time to time. I just wanted to change things a little bit for awhile. You can bet you'll see that classic avatar return.
