This is another thing I'm glad about the new generation of games. All the consoles and handhelds have emliminated the use of cardboard boxes. I mean pretty much all the game boxes I have from the 8-16 bit era are the ones that were made of plastic, the ones made of cardboard and such have either weathered, distintergrated, or were thrown out. I mean many of the old games are collector pieces now, and the hard plastic cases kept everything neat and together, and they could take a beating. Even for systems like the N64, I don't have any of those cardboard boxes left, the same with the gameboy and gameboy advance. I really like that the handhelds like the DS and the PSP both have their games in plastic cases just liek their console counterparts because handheld games are ususually the most often lost. You can store them along with the rest of the games without worrying that their boxes could be crushed or bent out of shape if there are games ontop of them.

The Sims 2 Nightlife came packed in a plastic case. It's as wide as two standard DVD cases.
The only problem I have with it, though, is that both discs are on the same hub.
its definately nice.
with that said, i have tons of the cardboard boxes from GBC/GBA/N64 even virtual boy, and i just have no place to put them, games are a lot better organized without those boxes and throwing them away is like throwing away 50% of its used value. ;(

I've tried to keep all my games in their boxes, but most of my N64 games I didn't keep the boxes for and just tossed them or they got torn up. I do however have the majority of my SNES games in their cardboard boxes as well as all my Gameboy boxes still intact.
The plastic DVD cases are very nice though. The jewel cases for the Dreamcast, PSX, Saturn, etc. were nice as well, but those can be dammaged much more easily than a DVD case.

I personally found N64 cases for the most part quite durable, but yeah a pain to store, and I find it awkward taking games out of there boxes, so I just keep them out of there boxes.
Another coll thing about them is that they are the same as DVD boxes, so they don't look all werid when there next to each other.

No kidding. It reminds me of when Sega switched to non-plastic packaging in 1994. My Sonic & Knuckles box is ripped in many places, whereas my Sonic 1 box is nearly the same as it was when I bought it years ago.

Yeah it seems nice that most come in plastic cases now, but keeping the boxes clean is a pain. Scratches and smudges are easily seen on plastic white surfaces and it can make the box look ugly.

Are you talking about the plastic keeper cases used for DVDs these days? Yeah, I love those. In fact, those are the only types of cases I love -- the cardboard "snapper" cases for DVDs are terrible, and while conveinent, I've never cared for jewel cases. (I like to be able to put my DVDs and video games on a shlef like books, bookends and all.) And cartriges that come in cardboard boxes? Very inconveient, and inefficient.
