LOL, I loved how that guy did that Armstron Impression (he even had fake sparkles!)
Another 2001 reference. These things never get old.
And what about these Homomluses?
Olly Molly! What a Revelation!
Why is Izumi hanging out at the set of Survivor ?
Another interesting episode of FMA. 3 out of 5.

That be an evil cliffhanger. Gah, he has Ed's arm and leg? But the munchins took it! Egads, I hope much is explained next week.
And the teacher seems to know a lot about Humonculi - or at least how they're made.

Since people seem to blame the people who post spoilers for themselves highlighting and reading them, I won`t answer your questions directly.
I will say that everything about the child, and ed`s arm and leg, as well as some more information about homunculi, will be revealed over the next few episodes. One in particular, I think it is either two or three eps from now.

One of the great things about FMA....it just answers your questions with even more questions
Lots of important stuff in this episode, including the mysterious child with Ed's limbs and the first mention of "the gateway".
Greed should be appearing soon, right? -_-;;; It's either next episode or 31, I don't remember.

You know, this was gonna be my debut post on Toonzone.net after lurking for about a year or two. I was gonna talk about this episode and how much I love FMA for it's plot twists and interesting characters and all that, but after seeing this episode and the MAJOR revelations that came with it, I think instead I'll just sit here in a state of shock staring at the tv.

I'm kinda mixed on this episode. It's nice for the plot to move forward somewhat, and finally see how Ed was able to make a circle without drawing one, but the drama was just too much at some points. Man, everytime I see something happy happen, it always feel like the **** is gonna hit the fan seconds later. I don't mind when things get tense, but FMA seems to rely on it TOO much sometimes. Which is why this episode felt offputting to me at times.

I hate cliffhangers. And I hate waiting a week to find out what's going on even more. Really good episode with a huge revelation. How exactly did the kid get Ed's arm and leg, and how can he (Ed) have seen him (the kid) during his experience with the Gateway? And the Homonculi return with their plotting, and Chezka making visits to Hughes' family. The Armstrong impersonation was hilarious, though the man the real Armstrong was with gave me the creeps. Definitely looking forward to next week.

Hello major story episode!
So now about that kid, it's basically revealed that he is indeed a homunculi. That much was (pretty) obvious. But Ed seeing him in the gateway? Now that's just plain weird.
So we get more backstory, and we find out more about just what happened that fateful night. A gateway, weird black blob people, information...ah, so much stuff and there is probably more!
What else...oh right. The kid has Ed's limbs. That is also just plain weird.
Major story revelations galore. 9/10

The man just *looks* evil. Archer is one of my favorite villains in the second half of FMA. He has the type of evil that can is shown in every scene. He even looked evil in Hughes' funeral and when he was with General Haruko. Loved the episode. Finding out that Ed still had his arm after the initial fiasco was surprising. Thought the touch of his arm and leg being on the gatekid was great. Also loved seeing Jessica again(one of my favorite supporting characters :¬).
Boy what an episode. Just can't wait for next week. One quick question though, what was the deal with the teacher puking up blood at the end?
First idea: she's sick and dying. Second idea gets a spoiler box, because I have a strong suspicion it might be right(or at least too close).
The teacher isn't necessarily dying, but she does have some chronic internal damage. There was some mention an episode or two ago that she once had a child of her own. We also know she can transmute without a circle. Since the intimation in this episode was that that ability only comes from having travelled through the gate, we can assume that she did so herself at one time. My guess is that she went through it either before her child was born, and her child was what was taken from inside her, or she went through when her child was young, because something happened to him. I'm inclined to believe the latter, after some of the discussions about life and death in the previous two episodes.
A third possibility is that she was studying human transmutation, and her child accidentally wandered into the experiment(either activating it himself, or getting in the way). This might be a bit too much, though.
About the gatekid, I'm guessing that he'd have to get the rest of his parts from somewhere as well. My first idea was Al... but, somewhat because of the face and hair, my gut says no. The other possibility, if he is, in fact, pieced together from characters we know about or have seen, is that most of him is made out of the teacher's kid.
I give TUC a B-.
So far, I'm more or less willing to forgive the series for that, because I like it enough. Yeah... it kinda dips into affectation at times, but it is, overall, good.

I thought i'd mention that this is where the anime diverts from the manga..Yeah, you can tell. Something about this whole episode felt... off. Kind of like how in other anime, no matter how good the non-manga stories are, it's pretty easy to pick them out. The idea of a kid running around with Ed's limbs just doesn't seem like something that this show would do. And the fact that he saw the kid before, and just happened to find him on an island is just... weird.

You mean that the whole gateway thing and the kid with Ed's limbs were in the manga? Then why did the episode feel so... off? No, this is an anime-only creation.. but the show goes back to the manga later on. Then goes away again. In that sense I'm not completely correct. I just don't want to give people the idea that everything after this is automatically going to be worse than the first half.
A substantial part of the first half of the anime is different from the manga too. A good many of the crucial scenes were added in the anime or changed from what they were in the manga.. If you really want to, read the first six chapters of the manga and you'll see what I'm talking about.

You mean I was right about one thing. That boy was a homoculi. I can't belive I actually got one thing right, but how on earth did he end up with Ed's arm? What's the tie between him and the other homoculi? What's the preview mean by "I'm a dirt rat of the military?" Does this mean Ed is turning down a different path? I can't wait to see what happens next, and this episode clearly shows why FMA is usually the #1 action show on AS.

Dosent the anime devert from the manga right after the death of Greed?
The anime diverted from the manga since episode 2.
The laws of physics, why Homonculi exists, what is the philosopher's stone, role of Scar, which Sin is who, homonculi's weaknesses, and how Alchemy works are ALL different in the anime.
The difference bwtween them is vast, so don't even try to make sense of one via the other.

The difference bwtween them is vast, so don't even try to make sense of one via the other. Yeah. I went and reread the manga after a bit of thought and realizing that I could hardly remember how it was different..
There are dramatic scenes added. For instance the Laboratory 5 scenes where Ed was asked to transmute the prisoners never happened in the manga. Ed didn't ever witness Gran's death, nor does he show up in the manga besides being a name tossed out. The part where Al thinks he's fake is handled very differently; Ed walked away from his brother after Al asked him if he was fake, then Winry screams at Al and explained that the thing Ed wanted to ask him was if he hated him. I could go on, but I won't. There are about 50 different subtle differences but it's truthfully a different story.

WOW! This episode really got to me.
We find out more on what happened with Ed when the whole incident with him and Al bringing thier mom back............
Ed gaining knowledge on how he can do alchemy without a circle when being pulled into some other strange world............................
how Ed actually lost his arm and leg in detail to get back his brothers soul for an equal exchange.................................
too finally noticing the most creepy of all cliff hangers in an anime series of all time, the kid actually has Ed's arm and leg.
Freaky stuff! What a show!
What's the symbol on Al's armor mean?
The one that Ed drew holds his soul to the armor.
Don't ask about the other one.
Freedom Fighter
10-03-2005, 02:36 AM
Finally, we get back to the 'that-didn't-just-happen!' scenes, though we waited 'til the second half of this episode.
So now we know exactly how Ed lost his leg and his arm, the door to the Gateway is opened, Izumi knows more about homonculi then she's letting on, and apparently this kid we saw at the end of the last week's episode somehow has Ed's 'sacrificed' leg and arm. What's the deal... or as Ed put it, 'I thought it was supposed to be equivalent exchange!'

It was a good episode, I didn't know that a Humoncoli worked for government, makes you wonder who created them? That child is interesting. I think he might be one of those humans that is back from the dead, thanks to Ed's arm and leg. A lot of flashbacks that were pretty grusome. Those little black monsters gnawing on Ed were scary.
Who was that lady on the roof watching Ed run after the child? Why did Izumi coughed up blood when she came close to a certain spot on the island?
I'm so confused, I don't know who's humoncoli and who is a real alchemist anymore?

It is also on the back of Ed's red jacket and Izumi's chest. It resembles a caudeusus, much like the one used on the American Red Cross and what Hermes

I have to set a few things straight.
The symbol is the Serpent Cross that symbolizes the Alchemic proverb, "Fix the Volatile." The revelance behind it will come later in the series.
The mysterious "lady" is a man, but he will be introduced in the next episode. So be patient.
There will be a lot of WTF!? moments in the next few episodes.
adoptedBatpuppy is right. We don't really know who is a homunculus and who is human.
Let's remember the Homunculi wh have been revealed:

Greed

He's the humonculus of Izumi and Sig's dead son. She used some of her internal organs to try and ressurect him(btw, his name is Wrath). My memory is kind of fuzzy, but if I remember correctly he got them at the gate somehow from those little black guys

There's something rotten in the city of Central. The Sins' seem to be working for someone at the top. They still want Ed to make them a stone but they also want to eliminate the rest of the Ishballans. Hmm...
My theory is that they don't trust their employer so much so they want someone to turn them human first, before they hand over the stone. As for the Ishbal stuff, maybe their boss fears the Ishballans method for making the stone.
It was nice seeing Schiezka again and it looks like she's taking the investigation of Hughes' murder into her own hands. Also Armstrong's trying to protect the Bros. Elric from Hughes' replacement.
The Gateway scenes were creepy as were the creepycrawlies that lived there. Me thinks Ed's sacrifice of his arm and leg might have un-intentionally let one out in the process. Also Izumi knows alot more than she's letting on, plus what's with all the stones, it looks like she tried to keep something buried there.
A few questions answered and a whole lot more raised.

If I have read correctly, those "historical photographs slammed together" are much more important to the story than they appear.
They have a lot to do with the movie, because Ed comes to the real word; at least, I'm pretty sure that's what I've heard.

How can I resist:
He's the humonculus of Izumi and Sig's dead son. She used some of her internal organs to try and ressurect him(btw, his name is Wrath). My memory is kind of fuzzy, but if I remember correctly he got them at the gate somehow from those little black guys
I remember Ed's teacher saying something like "You don't know how hemuculi are created, do you"?
I think :
I think they are created from the body parts of people that have tried to bring someone back from death. Something tells me alot of people have tried that in this world. And I already guessed that the kid was the teacher's son. Pretty obvious.

This is what it looks like without spaces
Keep in mind that the word is "spoiler" not "spoilers" and they have to match each other to work. It's always best to use the Preview Post option to make sure they are covering things up before hitting Sumbit Reply.
Hope that helps :).
