I am new to these boards, so if this has been discussed before, I apologize.

But I was watching the Batman Beyond episode "Joyride" recently, and I noticed something that previously didn't hold that much significance to me. (SPOILER WARNING for RETURN OF THE JOKER!!!!)

The beginning of the story shows a couple of members of the Jokerz gang taking a new pledge named Lee to a secret location that they use for their initiations. The site was near an abandoned mine. Inside the entrance was a skeleton wearing the remains of a purple coat with a green flower on the lappel. This was probably just intended as a throwaway sight gag when it first aired, but now it has been revealed in "Return of the Joker" (un-cut version) that the Joker was buried under the site of Arkham Asylum after Tim Drake killed him. Now we can assume that this is the body of the Joker himself, and the Jokerz use the old location of the Asylum to conduct their initiations for new members.

Has anyone else noticed this? Any thoughts?

Yes I have noticed that also. I think that was the real joker.

Welcome to the boards, Toddman! It's been discussed before, but I don't remember what the concensus was. I actually don't remember the scene visually, so I'd need to see it again, but it does sound like it could be Joker's remains. I hope so, because that would be kind of cool. I remember when I saw the episode I didn't think anything of it, but like you said, ROTJ hadn't been released yet. Maybe you could answer this for me. Did the location look like it could be the remains of the old Arkham?

I saw the skeletal remains (to me it looked like they were at the bottom of a a cave/mineshaft) in "Joyride"--for me it was a standout moment in a fair but forgettable episode; let's face it, those Jokerz are neither likable nor very bright--but never thought it was the original Mr. J. My thought was, "Holy [cow], looks like some poor sucker failed the initiation. That's some incentive to succeed, isn't it?"http://cwm.ragesofsanity.com/otn/realhappy/icon_smile_clown.gif

Welcome Toddman!!!

Okay, there are a couple of theories on that:
1.) That is the site of the old Arkham, and that is the real Mr. J.

2.) One of Joker's goons or someone obsessed w/ him (maybe the first Jokerz or) or just someone who did some research found the Joker's remains, dug it up and moved it to the initiation place.

3.) It's just someone who died and the Jokerz either thought it was the real Joker, or just wanted to keep a skeleton around.

Of course, there are endless amounts of other possibilities, but i think the way it was presented, it was inteded to be someone special. The Joker, though? Well, we just don't know for sure.

Hope you enjoy your stay.

Hmm, as to where Arkham is located, I would say get out the tape for "Dreams in darkness" which has multiple views of Arkham and the surrounding countryside. The terrain in "Joyride" seemed a little more level, but who knows how things have changed in forty years.

"DiD" showed that the asylum was built over a cavern so large it had its own name. An underground river flowed through it. It fed the city's water supply, so the city must be downhill from the asylum. However the cavern in "Joyride" didn't have either the river or the stairs leading down to it. Also, in "DiD" the Scarecrow somehow managed to get a truck down there (?? what, did they put in a road for his convenience?)

So as to whether this is Arkham's old location, who knows. It would be in character for the Jokerz to visit the old site, though. The body could be anybody's. Now if they were positive it was the Joker's body, I'd think these (anti)hero worshippers would have taken better care of it.

P.S. Most posters don't know there's a website attached to these boards, so if you'd like, stop by Http://wf.toonzone.net/worldsfinestpage

Welcome to the boards! I don't think that it could have been joker's body in there......his body would probably have been treated a little better. it was probably there just to add to the mood of the scene.

Yeah I agree with Inque. I don't think it was the REAL Joker's body. I do have my own theory though.

I think they put it there on purpose as a joke (whether it's from a real body, or just a fake skeleton with jokerz gear on it that they beat up) to scare newbies and make them believe whatever stupid supersticious story (after you're done reading this, say that three times fast) they feel like scaring him with.

After all, you know how they often intertwine jokes with death and vice versa. That's my favorite aspect of The Jokerz actually, because it reveals a sick side to the gang members.
