View Full Version : Be Spoiler-Sensitive to Canadians

Heya my friends from below the border...

...gotta say, I'm envious of you. Whereas YTV aired the last few episodes of season two of JLU ahead of Cartoon Network, now us poor Canucks are left waiting while YTV ponders when and if they will air the new batch of episodes you guys and gals are currently enjoying so much.

And so, this is my well-intentionned request to you, asking that should you wish to discuss something spoilerific outside of specific talkback threads, that you do so with extreme caution, as far as thread titles are concerned. In order words, titles like "Character X and Character Z in a relationship?!?" kinda give away the pleasant surprises for those of us who are still waiting. Generally, people are good about this, but on occasion something slips out...and spoilers really can ruin things, as we all know.

Thanks for the consideration. As for you my Canadian friends...how much is it sucking for you right now, not being able to see these episodes or join in on the conversations?

I strongly suggest that you avoid this forum. There's been a JLU explosion. Questions, theories, spoilers are everywhere. It'll take several days (maybe even weeks) to clean up. Until then, it's safest for you to stay as far away as possible from the affected area. There's no telling what some crazed fan will say.
Good luck to you.

Yeah, what Stewie said.

I don't care how many moderators I hire on this forum, once an episode airs in the US, it's full blown blabbermouth season. I'd honeslty avoid this forum at all costs until you are able to watch it; it's simply not possible for everyone to heed every warning and every thread.

I know it sucks; but there's just waaaay too many US viewers on this forum and it's a lot more difficult to keep track of than it is when only 10 or 15 Canadian viewers get an episode on YTV/Teletoon.

I appreciate your plight, good folks, but despite how terrible this sentiment is, I've gotta say it:

Vengeance is sweet. :D

Um, no offense or anything, but Canada got all but 3 episodes of Season 4 before us. How can you consider yourself poor, even with spoilers? Not to mention that CN will be stopping with new episodes again tommorow (it's only 11:46 PM right now where I am). We in the USA have been having to avoid spoilers for at least 9-10 episodes, whereas you guys only have to avoid them for 4 episodes. I'd consider yourself lucky.

I’m not sure what the consensus is on this one (within this forum, that is…) but I, for one, was very happy to have the choice of reading threads, clearly marked as “spoilers”, during our little broadcast differential (between us “Yanks” and our brethren “Canucks”) during the later part of last season… (crap!!! I was even eager to read the stuff from the Hong Kong broadcasts, last season, as soon as they were posted!)

Anyway, I don’t think it’s an unfair request so much as… it’s the policy of this site! Don’t put spoilers in your thread titles… That’s been the way it’s supposed to be. Some people just don’t bother to be considerate.

I don’t speak up a lot ‘cuz this is, by far, one of the best moderated sites I’ve ever participated in (I mean it… There is far less “flaming” in any MONTH compared to any DAY on most boards!)

So, just to make sure I’m not offending the people I’m trying to defend… Please remember to clearly mark “spoiler” threads as such. Don’t complain if you read said threads. Trust me, by the time last season’s episodes 4 thru 13 aired in the U.S., the talk-back threads were already stale with the many who had seen them months prior in Canada. I read them, but I knew what I was getting into… I was happy to have an "inside scoop" :)

Now… Who posted that spoiler about “Blue Beetle” getting offed by “Star Saphire”!?!

(j/k)

After last season I have absolutely NO sympathy left for Canadian viewers.

I doubt A hooking up with B is as huge a spoiler as Brainthior which was ruined for me weeks before Panic in the Sky aired. If folks who watched YTV episodes were more considerate to us Yanks, I'd be more sympathetic.

Good luck to you. Yeah, this is sensible advice. Still, there is no reason the put spoilers in thread titles. But, honestly, Disneyboy, the threads I've seen after I Am Legion and Shadow of the Hawk has aired have MINIMAL spoilers compared to the ones that popped up after the Cadmus finale. Only the Hawkman thread could possibly considered out of line.

I appreciate your plight, good folks, but despite how terrible this sentiment is, I've gotta say it:

Vengeance is sweet. :D Agreed with everything but the I appreciate your plight thing.

Coming from someone who complains about spoilers all the time, your attitude surprises me, Matt. It is difficult to avoid spoilers in this forum, my advice is to simply stay away until you've seen it. It's simply unfeasable for mods to edit every spoiler filled post. When it comes to episodes the majority of folks haven't seen, that's when the problem persists.

We've tried to keep this board as spoiler free as possible, but without approaving every single post before it's made, it's never going to be perfect.

I appreciate your plight, good folks, but despite how terrible this sentiment is, I've gotta say it:

Vengeance is sweet. :D I'd like to concur to that statement, but it really isn't much of a vengeance. Canadians were yelling on and on all around the forums about how awesome the arc is, about Brainiac/Luthor, etc. and when we finally get some episodes before them they stop at 4 episodes. Not to sound rude, but like Fone Bone said, I have no compassion for Canadians anymore. You guys are complaining about a whimpy 4 episodes where we had to hear you guys going on and on about how great all the Season Four episodes were. Not to mention that you guys also got every single episode of Season 2 of The Batman before us too.

I did just what BB was suggesting (Avoiding the fourm), and I wasn't spoiled at all. :p Forums are like a drug. Some of us just can't get off them, no matter how much we try to avoid spoilers.

Well as someone who's downright neurotic about spoilers, I'll throw in my two-cents. The history of this board has always been once an episode airs here in the US it's free game to post about it outside of a talkback. I'm sure the simple fact that 90% of this board is made up of those in the States is the reason behind that. I do feel for the Canadians that didn't get to see the episodes. But it's sort of the same boat as if I'd just gone stupid and forgotten an episode was airing. You can't expect dialogue to not occur just because of a handful of people. It sounds crappy, I'm sure. But it'd be a heck of a lot crappier for the larger majority to be shushed.

i would be willing to create a slew of fake spoiler threads so that the canucks dont know which are real.

such as:

Wonderpig Returns!
Spiderman Cameo!
Wonder Woman and Hawkgirl! The quadralateral become a love pentagon!
Grodd tamed by Bwana Beast!

I have a feeling this thread is going to get ugly. Next thing you know this is going to turn into a U.S. vs. Canada thing. Aye??? :p

In all honesty, I don't recall any U.S. members requesting Canadians to be "spoiler sensitive" when they received episodes weeks in advance before us. Interesting how the tides have turned.

Dudes, cut DisneyBoy a break. He made a perfectly reasonable request. Is that any reason to start a sympathy battle for which nationality's plight is more justified? Granted, Americans dominate the forum in terms of sheer numbers, so spoiler rules are laxed once an ep has aired in the states. But nobody from Canada or the UK or anywhere else should be denied a simple courtesy that should be fairly common around the forums already.

Interesting how the tides have turned.I'm fairly certain if you look hard enough there were a handful of US posters making such requests. I can't think of solid examples off the top of my head, but I'm almost certain I saw two or three back then. Fone Bone was probably one of them.

No offense but I live in Costa Rica and I dont go asking people to be spoiler sensitive to Costarricans. Sounds sort of selfish to me. Isnt a rule here to be careful about spoilers no matter where are you from...?

i think it is a normal request for anyone to make. after all, the rules of the board are to avoid spoilers in thread titles. its not like disneyboy is asking for people not to discuss spoilers, just to do so in clearly marked areas for a period of time unitl everyone gets a chance to see the episodes without being spoiled. that seems reasonable to me.

It is difficult to avoid spoilers in this forum, my advice is to simply stay away until you've seen it. Unfortunately this is my favorite forum on Toon Zone so it's still hard. When I took a break I missed you and Bird Boy and Style and GMahler. I love you guys very much and it's hard staying out of contact with you guys. Maybe if y'all visited the Cafe more.;)

I know. It's just that I've been complaining about the same thing about THE END OF THE ARC and no-one listened. I DO sympathize with DisneyBoy (who I REALLY like) but it makes me mad at the same time. I'd gladly trade off schedules with him. Either way, I personally will not be posting any spoiler threads or threads with spoilers in the title. While I may be mad, I'm still the kind of person who treats others the way I'd like to be treated regardless of whether or not I actually am.

I like the idea of joke spoiler threads to throw folks off track. Unfortunately, I have a feeling they'd be closed pretty quickly (Can't slip nuthin' past you and Bird Boy!):D

But in fairness to we Canadian posters, I don't think it was one of us that blabbed about that revelation on the speculation thread. From what I remember we kept our discussions within the "spoiler" labeled talkback threads.

And Disneyboy, I'm going to have to agree with those who say that the only way we can avoid spoilers is to avoid this site until we see the episodes. I know it sucks, but what else can we reasonbaly expect? This is a fan forum, and fans will want to discuss what they see after all.

Bird Boy

All right, this thread seems to be turned into generic "But you guys got stuff first too!" complaints/bashing.

Bottom line: Be kind to your other posters. If you are posting something outside of the designated Talkbacks, then spoiler box it. We've asked it in the past, so please start/continuing doing it.
