You know, I take every bit of mail with a grain of salt and question the validity of anything that may be too good to be true, but I got a post card in the mail today that says I have been chosen to be a Nielsen TV household. If this is true, watch those ratings on Family Guy GO UP! LOL.

well, the mail I got says it's only going to be for a week. Lemme see...what do I watch??? Adult Swim, JL, Family Guy, King of the Hill, Futurama, Batman Beyond, the Tick...you get the idea! Even if they only survey me for a week, I am gonna support all the best shows!

A few years ago I was chosen for this consumer buyer scanning thingy that you swipe what you buy so they can track comsumer spending habbits. They took it away after months of me buying and scanning cartoon merchandise saing I did not refect the average consumer.

The Power is mighty force to be reckoned with. It rivals the Speed Force, even. If you misuse the Power, it will eat you alive, much like the Speed Force did the Rival. However, If you use the Power to benefit all Fanboy-kind, you will reap the rewards!

Hehehehehe! :D

Congrats!

Haha. Hmm...according to that testimony, if you start watching GOOD shows, Cal, your voice probably wont count. "You don't reflect the average stupid TV watcher...". hehe!

Call me ignorant (HEY!!!), but what *is* a Nielsen TV-whatever-thingie? Do they spy on you?

Ooooooooh, stalkers.

The only survey I've ever been in was when Trix (TM) sent me two boxes, one containing their regular fruit-shaped Trix, and one containing round sphere-shaped Trix. The survey was, basically, to eat the cereal (which was my favorite food at the time...yipee! :D ) and to tell them which one I preferred. The fruit, obviously, one. (Who'd want a bunch of cereals that look exactly alike?! {shrugs}

Heh. In other words, they were trying to find data to support their idea, and decided to remove data that went against it. Very scientific. I hope that they weren't doing anything important.

Sounds like Cal is a man on a TV-watching mission. Try to do something other than just watch TV to jack up those ratings if you can. You know, like sleeping, eating... :D

Danielle, these thingies keep track of everything you watch, to extrapolate TV ratings. Let me explain: the Neilsens can't POSSIBLY count every single person in the US. So, they pick several thousand people each week and keep track of what they watch. With these "sample" results, they estimate what the entire country watches.

So, concievably, if you got several hundred Neilsen families to watch an unpopular show like, say, "Polka Jam," they'd think many millions of people were watching it. Hence, the power! MUAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!

Congratulations, Cal! Now watch all those good shows! Forego garbage like Survivor and watch The Tick and 24 and all the good stuff everyone is missing!

I told my mom about it and she said that she got this back in the 60's, so I guess it's cool. They are supposed to contact me by phone, so I will be waiting! I bet when they find out I watch all these cartoons and superhero shows, they will tell me something like I don't represent the average viewer, tho. I just get this bad feeling! I like how they pre determine who is the average viewer. Who is paying them to figure that out?

I like how they pre determine who is the average viewer.

I bet there idea of the average viewer is someone who sits there watching dozen upon dozens of sitcoms. Show them how wrong they are, Cal! :)

Next to your avatar that subject line looks pretty menacing.

This just shows how the internet enriches your life. I was just thinking the other day that I'd never actually know anyone who was a Nielson family. And now I do!

I worked with a girl not too long ago who had been part of a Neilson family for a little while. Really, what are the odds?

Ah, A Neilsen...I must now worship you, and pray you watch my station....

wutever...

Actually, in case anyone was wondering, since I do work for a TV Station, I'm ineligible for consideration. Ok, so it wasn't that interesting.

hrmph.

Congrats Cal!

So Cal, would a $20 handshake and a suggestion of a show or two help grease the wheels of the almighty box of ratings?
<Cal extends hand which contains a crisp, unmarked, $20 bill>

I bow down to your power, oh great wielder of the Nielsen omnipresence...

hey, did you get a survey to go along with it? like asking you your age and everything? cuz don't tv and radio stations do something like a demographic age or whatever it's called? i learned it in my news writing class....great, wonderful how my brain retains information that can get me nowhere and flushes out important stuff that can get me good grades! anyway, i digress. so if you don't meet the requirements, maybe the people at the station'll toss out your information based on what you watch because of the demographic age/gender/whatever they're targeting. ok, so i don't really know how this neilson thing works, all i know that you're so lucky and hope that your....vote(?) counts!! :D keep the good shows!!!!!!! i wish i was a neilson family before all the shows i loved got cancelled. *sigh*

I have been a part of the N- family for a while now.. It is kind of weird to know that my viewing decisions help to shape the landscape of what the networks choose to air.

A word of advice..you can watch all the toons you want and include them..just make sure to balance it out with some of the "normal fare" as well and you should be able to stay a member of the family for awhile like I am.

Again..welcome to the family and lets make sure we show them what we like.

Oh...... so THAT'S why I got to fill out only three Nielsen diaries before they cut me loose! Well, nuts! Of course, my mother was the one who got the diary... and I was 12 at the time... and you wondered how Knight Rider stayed on the air!

[Inhales Deeeeply...] Ah! The musty smell of power! I remember it well!

And Danielle... [injoke ON]where the heck were you for our show's taping Sunday night? Do you know how hard it is to keep a captive audience entertained? Don't make me get the Fava Beans... :p [injoke OFF]
