What's the difference between an ADV boxset and a regular boxset?

Certainly not the price....

I wonder if they're going to make a Nadia ThinPak?

They're DVD releases that are stripped of extras and whatnot, all for a cheaper price.

But these are strange. These sets are $90, way more than the normal sets. Maybe it's just the site, though.

These are ADV Film's new cash cows: basically previously released series, in thinpak cases in a chipboard box, without any extras. Nice and cheap and pretty, too

probably because they are for relatively newer series: Chrono Crusade, Evangelion: Platinum and Peacmaker just finished thier singles run.

Y'know, if that Eva boxset had extras in it, I would be so over it, even though I already have the original boxset + both Director's Cuts.

I might finally pick up Eva on the next Rightstuff Sale.

The only real loss for the Eva discs will be the booklets. You won't miss the crappy in-house cast interviews and commentaries, trust me.

Yeah, those Eva extras make me dislike Matt Greenfield.

... but.... mm.... Protoculture Collection.

Hmm... the Evangelion boxset looks like it has six discs, but there were seven. Did they compress the series onto less discs, I wonder?

You will miss Tiffany Grant showing you her house tho.

So how many extras do they remove from the thin paks? I'm wondering because my friend was thinking of picking up Magical Shopping Mall Abenobashi Thin Pak but, he refuses to get if their aren't any of the funny outtakes on the dvd.

I also wanted to get the EVA set since I only have Volume 1 of the original release. I don't care about the booklet. I just wanted the show.

I'm loving these boxsets. I've got my eye on Happy Lesson, Mezzo, and maybe Peacemaker.

About the extras: I don't really need them if I can get the series at such a cheap price. I got Abenobashi last week for $40 and I'm getting Rune Soldier tommorow for about $30. (Then again, Rune Soldier doesn't have many extras to begin with, but meh.)

When ADV releases these thinkpak sets do the discontinue the regular ones. I want extras, not of dub actors goofing around but other stuff like trailers and animation staff interviews.

You won't miss the crappy in-house cast interviews and commentaries, trust me. I didn't really like the interviews either; Matt Greenfield stuttered too much and spent most of the time trying to find the most descriptive words to finish his sentences. And they kept the camera on him the WHOLE TIME- no cuts to animation footage, no background music, no nothing. So yes, those interviews, while offering a bit of info here and there, were very boring.

I liked the commentaries, though. They seemed to have more information than the interviews, and told a lot about the English production of the show.

You will miss Tiffany Grant showing you her house tho. Yeah that was truly a sight to behold. She's got to be one of the biggest Asuka fanatics out there (fitting, since she played the character). Which begs the question: Does she have some of the ADULT Asuka merchandise too? I mean, if she claims to have EVERYTHING... :p
So how many extras do they remove from the thin paks? I'm wondering because my friend was thinking of picking up Magical Shopping Mall Abenobashi Thin Pak but, he refuses to get if their aren't any of the funny outtakes on the dvd. The other extras on the Abenobashi discs, besides the outtakes (which, IMO, weren't nearly as good as the ones for Ikki Tousen and Midori Days) are ADV Notes, like the ones found in Excel Saga, and a couple commentaries. So your friend wouldn't be missing a TON of stuff if he/she got the thinpak.

I want extras, not of dub actors goofing around but other stuff like trailers and animation staff interviews. I'd imagine that most of these thinpaks will atleast include the standard ADV preview trailers; the Najica set I got in August included them. However, any other extras are pretty much not gonna happen. Otherwise people who bought the series initially will feel cheated.
