hey all!

in a different thread i mentioned i'm the editorial cartoonist for my collegiate newspaper, "the spur". now, it's not a very difficult job. i get paid $5 per cartoon and i basically turn them in when i want. the paper is released every two weeks. what are my topics of drawing? basically i can draw about anything. an open field, if you will. i just happened to choose to draw about different situations around campus, such as: the long lunch lines, no parking available, all the slow construction, etc...

here's the second drawing i did for the paper, but the first in my series of character specific drawings i call "strife on campus"

enjoy!

LOL! That's so funny! It's crazy at college - parking that is. I go to Purdue University, and parking is insane! I hate it. You have to go up and down the road till you find a place where you can walk to campus. LOL.

The comic makes me laugh!

That's great. I love the hilarity little moments can have. And my college's campus sounds identical to yours. We have crazy, long lunchlines, horrid parking, and six months of constrution with little progress going on with the math building.

I hope you do another one of these soon! This one was very fun~

thanks for the comments you two :) hilarity is indeed what i am going for with these strips, but more so of my own brand of humor. i'm glad you two like them as well!

mary_mari- the next one should be ready in 1-2 weeks. the paper is released every other week but right now we are in discussions to make it a weekly paper again. basically, i'll post something up when i finish a strip

Quite an ammusing gag I think. Trust me it's my first year at college ( well I transfered from a community college) and I know it's funny...cuz it's true.

So is it hard to come up with ideas for gags?

So is it hard to come up with ideas for gags?let's just say i'm glad they give me two weeks  it's actually not that bad. i walk around campus, see something that i find comical or that i can make comical and draw something about it. i knew i was going to draw this idea out right away though, i just didn't know how i wanted to do it. at first i was going to include the cars but then i realized something very important

i'm horrible at drawing cars :)

update!

strife on campus 2 (http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/23404350/)

my college just had our homecoming and i wanted to make an issue out of how some people put too much emphasis on school spirit and some people, such as myself, could really care less :)

Aw, that's beautiful, man~ The nudie's little scream makes it all the more hilarious ("HOMECOMING! WHOOO!!" - :D ). The characters look great in these panels, too.

Great topic used quite wisely. I'm still ahungerin' fer mer*

Hahah best art ever in the history of art.:D

Seriously thought its a good concept and with some fine tuning and clear text it could be a really good newspaper comic strip.

on my campus, facebook (www.facebook.com) is a big deal. click on the link to check it out, but basically you and all your friends create an account on it and you can keep tabs on each other. you can keep track of friends at other campuses as well. basically it's another one of those blog things

this cartoon portrays how badly everyone is hooked on it. if you haven't heard or seen facebook, you probably won't get as big of a hoot out of this one. sorry

on another note, i completely forgot to scan the cartoon i did before this one  it will be posted as soon as i get it back from the newspaper office

I so agree! I don't do facebook! All my friends are like: facebook, facebook. I refuse, lol. I hear it's addicting though!

wow! it's good to be back on the internet after such a long hiatus due to a faulty modem

this next cartoon DOES require some explanation. my campus's president, Danahar, is known to be a fan of art, specifically paintings. not bad in a sense, i suppose. i like art too. recently, our school's buildings are going under some renovations and a lot of new construction has left a few empty rooms open and many people and organizations want to use these rooms for their own endevours. one such room, the students want to use as a conference room to host their clubs' meetings and get togethers ONLY. what does danahar decide to do with it? make it into an art gallery. our FIFTH art gallery on campus. we're not a fricken museum and the student's are fed up with him. here's the cartoon addressing the absurdity of it. enjoy!

Gah~ That's a great inside joke, man. Art galleries. Really? That's crazy. But about the comic, I really like the style to this one. It seems different than the others, but it's probably just the arrangement of everything. The bold outline of the character looks really nice. And I like the change of angle--dramatic~

Great comic strip, as always!

Great comic strip, as always!haha. yeah. this one is a bit different. on my older drawings i used a bold outline to give it more depth. i'm going to start that technique again

These are great, Falcon! Your characters are always so adorable. :anime:hahhaa. yeah. i miss the "village idiot" days of when i drew noggins of various TZers. wish i could continue that but right now i don't have time for it. thanks though, my dory hunkette

for those of you who are waiting, "strife on campus 3" (the lost comic) and a "strife on campus" tribute to veteran's day will be posted soon!

this is the cartoon i forgot to post: strife on campus 3 (http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/25041096/)

somebody was upset with our administration because he wasn't accepted into the education department so he could teach little kids. you'd think he'd take it well because he wants to be a teacher and he seems gentle, right? nope. he and his buddy drove by the school and fired 5 shots into the face of the new student center building. this cartoon makes light of the fact that urban school have gun fights and rural schools have barnyard animals in the buildings (true story)

veteran's day tribute: strife on campus- veteran's day tribute (http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/25041233/)

not meant to be funny, but just wanted to get everybody thinking about what our soldiers do for us

newest cartoon: strife on campus 6 (http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/25041397/)

our old student center burned down a couple years ago but we now have a new one up in it's place. how does the alumni decide to celebrate the occasion? by sticking a fireplace inside a building that previously BURNED DOWN. *sigh* shows you how bright the people are that graduate from my campus

The Veteran's Day Tritube was pretty touching. The others were amusing and pretty funny. Good job on all of them. Keep up the good work.:)

LOL, the fireplace story is funny! It's like my college was actually considering having a dance. I was like: oh dear lord, please save me.

I loved the comics, the first one is sooo like Ball State, where I grew up.

-Cashahah. i know. when i drew that one (number 3, the one with the cow) i thought back to my days at south dakota state and good ole hanson hall, a.k.a. the cowboy dorm. my friend was an RA for said dorm and one night he was woken by a disturbance. he walked outside into the hallway and there was a horse tied up at the other end of the hall :D

the penguin can vouch for this

i bring to you the newest "strife on campus" comic. this is officially comic number 9, not 7, as there were two other comics which i didn't include in the original numbering

description:
winter vacation is coming to a close. after working and struggling to get through the first semester (aka the top of the hill), you have to start all over again and it can seem like you get barrelled over with all that's going on

hope you like it!

ps. sorry about the huge size. i'm too tired to figure out how to make it smaller right now
