from http://www.variety.com/article/VR1117928957?categoryid=14&cs=1 It'll probably say you need a subscription to read it, but here's the part of the article that matters.

The fifth nomination proved the charm for Comedy CentralComedy Central's "South Park," winning its first Emmy for animated program of less than one hour.

Congrats to "Best Friends Forever" for finally breaking the South Park Emmy curse

Ha! I predicted this! Congrats to South Park for finally winning, you deserve it.

Actually, I'm a bit disappointed because out of all their issue oriented episodes BFF was probably the worst.
It was slightly funny with it's video game references, but so much more humor could have been gotten from the war between Heaven and Hell plot, and it's final message addressed the most cosmetic aspect of the issue.
It's unfortunate that this is the one they get an award for.

I'm disappointed that Samurai Jack didn't win it, given that it will never have another chance to.

I still don't understand why BFF was chosen over The Death of Eric Cartman.

Bah, Family Guy should've won.

Alas.

Nothing from this season of FG was Emmy worthy.

I haven't seen the newer FGs, but none of the old ones were nearly as good as "Best Friends Forever" anyway.

Good to see South Park get recognition. It's been long overdue.

I think it probably deserves it. It was insightful and, really, surprisingly tasteful. It was really daring to address that issue, but it's not like that shock value was the only point to it, even though they could've just been all like "OH NO WE DI'N'T!"

And, let's see... Simpsons didn't deserve it, Family Guy might've deserved it for "North By North Quahog"... American Dad isn't quite ready yet but probably will be next year...

Wait, what kind of Emmy is this exactly? Best what for a half-hour animated show? And not just comedy?

South park deserved it, after all their hard work the creators did over the pass years. Congrats!!

A dark day for animation. SP is one of the worst written and worst animated fiascos on TV. The academy might as well have not given an award if they were limiting themselves to this, two of Seth MacFarlane's atrocities, and the past-their-freshness date Simpsons. Oh the humanity.

Bah, Family Guy should've won. I somewhat agree with this. While I feel that SP's Emmy was definitely long overdue, I personally wanted Family Guy to win this award, as the most recent season of South Park wasn't as great as it usually is.

Family Guy might've deserved it for "North By North Quahog".
North by North Quahog was the nominated episode.

The rest of season 4 you can pretty much take or leave, but the season premiere was all kinds of great.

North by North Quahog was the nominated episode. Yes, and it might've deserved to win.

Contgrads to Matt Stone & Trey Parker for winning an emmy! It's been overdue and they should have won early back in 2000 or in 2002. But I bet Cartman will be bragging in one of these episodes in the coming months.

My mistake. I thought SirLemming said American Dad was nominated when it wasn't. Sorry.

I too was hoping Jack would win.

But I don't think this is the first Emmy for South Park. Didn't it get an Emmy for the "Bin Laden Wears Farty Pants" episode a few years back? (At least I think that was the nominated episode's title.)

No, it lost to Futurama's "Roswell, That Ends Well".

Well, wasn't anything truly spectacular this year. I guess South Park should deserve one for keeping itself topical with morals. Don't get me wrong though. I think halfway down their three year contract, the show will eventually lose momentum.

Yeah, that was my favorite from last season, but it wasn't the show piece episode with the topical subject matter. Funny doesn't seem to be the most important factor as far as nominations go.

I guess what gets me is that I don't think they deserve an award for having been an also ran for so many years when the show in question doesn't compare too well to their other efforts. They've done better and they could still do better if they worked for it.

By comparison, I thought Samurai Jack stepped up, gave it their best and produced a good show.
And Family Guy has been on the ball. They've come back with lots of energy, they don't let opportunities slip by and make every minute count.
SpongeBob, some how I missed, so I can't really say anything about it.

The Simpsons, look here at the credits on the Emmy Awards page. (http://www.emmys.org/awards/2005pt/awards/animated.php) Three Executive Producers and TEN co-executive producers! I think it would be better if they co-executive produce themselves on a trip to Bermuda and leave the show in the hands of a single person who has drive and inspiration for what the show could be.

No it wouldn't. Keep in mind that The Simpsons is very team written and always has been. It wouldn't survive with one person or even just a few people doing all the writing. And that's really all the "Co-Executive Producer" credits are for the most part; just indicating that they write on the show or have a higher position then some of the other writers. Ultimately the main producers who are actually producers in more traditional senses are Matt Groening, James L. Brooks, and the showrunner (current Al Jean). The rest are just writers, and I think the "producers" credits are mostly legal titles or something that don't affect the actual production of the show much.
