Ok, I saw the tape and...well, I'm suprised it's an AMERICAN!!! It's...something you wouldn't expect, huh?

I'm a pure-blood American, but...I think that the people in San Fransisco and Melborne sould run...

I didn't see it.

I don't mean to be a killjoy but isn't this treading on political ice?

I haven't heard anything of this, but it's not even 11:00am over here and I have busy mornings on Mondays, so I'ven't really looked into the news yet.

I wouldn't be too suprised if there's an American in it. Al Qaeda probably has a fair number of American sympathizers. Aberrant and repellent groups can all ways attract a few misguided souls into the fold.

It's probably best not to concern ourselves with that overtly and leave it to the moderating team to decide upon.

An apparent Al Qaeda tape broadcast on US television threatens new terrorist attacks in Los Angeles and Melbourne.
The chilling tape warned that this time there would be no restraint or compassion.

"Yesterday, London and Madrid. Tomorrow, Los Angeles and Melbourne, Allah willing," a masked operative said.

"We are Muslims. We love peace, but peace on our terms, peace as laid down by Islam, not the so-called peace of occupiers and dictators."

The 11-minute tape was delivered to ABC News in Pakistan and played as Americans commemorated the fourth anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks.

The network believes the man is Adam Yahiye Gadahn, an American from California who is wanted by the FBI.

Gadahn delivered a similar taped message for al Qaida last year that was later deemed authentic.

So it seems the alleged American in question is currently wanted by the FBI, though I haven't seen any official verification of his identity just yet.

He still is American born!

It really shouldn't come as a surprise that an American citizen has aligned himself with a group such as Al Qaeda (John Walker Lindh, anyone). We see political activism focused on interests abroad from all types of groups in the United States. Generally speaking it's not the extreme variety evidenced by the article above, but nonetheless millions of people spend time, money, and other resources supporting international efforts in Isreal, Palestine, Cuba, various middle eastern countries, Ireland, western Europe, etc and not all of the support is benevolent, unfortunately. For some, allegiances to whatever cause supercedes that of American citizenship.

Unfortunately, groups of zealots, Al-Qaida included, have historically never had too hard a time finding recruits. And in a country with three-hundred million people in it, it's no surprise that somebody would sympathize with what they do.

No arguing that it sucks, only that it was bound to happen. For what it's worth, while the guy is American-born, I wouldn't consider him an American in any of the ways that would actually matter/have value.

This isn't the first time either, they caught other american citizens who joined assorted terror groups...

statisticly it's bound to happen...I mean it's a small margin of people, it's not like it's a cause of worry that hundreds upon hundreds will join.

Hell there are more communist affiliates and groups in america than ones asscoiated with terror organizations...

Why is this surprising? Yeah, the guy's an American and it isn't surprising that an American would do this. He could have done it for the money or other personal reasons. There are many American terrorists. Sure, they're not creating the bigger disasters but they are causing some issues in our own turf. Some people need to be open-minded to that so they can understand what is really going on in our own country.

Just to let you know, some people, including I, might find this post very offending.
