I would like to know what Escaflowne (don't know if I mispled that) is about since the movie is coming on and all. I would just just like to know the gist of it. If you have to because of legal reasons than by all means please post it on spoiler background.

Thank you.

I haven't watched the movie, but I have seen the original TV series. Basically, it's about a girl who is suddenly pulled to another planet and befriends a prince whose brother had allied with an evil group that wants to control fate. Lots of giant robots (called Guymelefs) that look like giant suits of armor and lots of chanting of "Escaflowne" in the soundtrack. Some romantic themes in the form of a few love triangles. Tarot cards. Future seeing. Fantasy setting. Oh and some furries.

Also, this is the previous work that Shinichiro Watanabe had worked on before making Cowboy Bebop and Samurai Champloo. Also, this is his second collaboration with composer Yoko Kanno after working together on Macross Plus.

Actually, Kazuki Akane (not Shinichiro Watanabe) directed the Escaflowne movie and TV series. Shoji Kawamori, who directed Macross Plus with Watanabe, co-created Escaflowne.

I guess what I wanted to say is that Escaflowne helped to launch Watanabe into the spotlight (although moreso with Macross Plus).

Let's just say that this is another great perennial work by Sunrise, creators of great series like Cowboy Bebop, Wolf's Rain, Witch Hunter Robin, and Samurai Champloo.

It probably won't happen, but depending on how well Escaflowne did, maybe they'll pick up the series. It's a little old, but you can't ignore the great talent behind it.

Maybe not the movie, but he storyboarded and was unit director for some of the episodes for the TV series.
