Well, after not being able to see stuff off the the distance for a few years now, I've finally broken down and got me some eyeglasses. One one had it's pretty cool cause now I can read roadsigns as I'm driving, I can read the subtitles on TV shows, and I can see things as a whole a lot more clearly now.
The downside is that they tend to give me a bit of a headache. But then taken them off doesn't really help the headache go away. It's like my head hurts trying to adjust to the glasses, but then after I take them off I have to adjust to not having them on. Has anyone else ever gone through this? Do I just need to give it some time to get used to them, or do I need a new RX?
What was your first experence like wearing glasses?

I've had Glasses since third grade. I only wear them in school to see the board. My doctor says I shoud wear them all the time, especially when watching tv, but they give me a headache.

Haven't had any headache problems, myself. I started wearing them for driving back in late spring of this year. Definitely nice to be able to read roadsigns far enough ahead of time. However, I've never had to wear them for an extended time, since I don't drive very far or particularly often.

Yeah, my glasses still give me a headache and I've had them for 8 years now.
You just need to get used to it I'm afrid
And if you don't allready, asprin and parcental help headaches a great deal.

When I first got eyeglasses, it was really cool. I could see things clearly and read things alot better. Also, began to do well in school.

I've had to wear classes since 5th grade.
When I get the lenses changed, I get a slight headache but that doesn't last. I now have (weak) astigmatism in my right eye. I'm only 25.

I got my first pair in 1999, having needed them for years beforehand, but just not getting around to it. It took an experience I had with someone else's glasses one day to convince me that my eyesight was really bad. I tried hers on just for fun and I guess her perscription was close to whatever I needed, because it was the first time I could see in sharp detail in years! That instant, I knew I was destined to be bespectacled. :p I hated my first pair and hardly wore them. The second pair slipped contantly and I didn't like them either. Now I'm onto my third pair and like them for the most part. They get to me comfort-wise once in a while, but I can deal with it.

I don't remember a time when I didn't have glasses.
I know for a fact that I must have gotten them when I was in the first grade, but I skipped kindergarten, so I got them when I was 5-6.
So I have had glasses all my life and don't remember a time when I didn't have them.
Anyone have contacts as well? I have contacts (though I need a new prescription) and I love them. The only problem was getting used to something being on my eyeball for 8+ hours... :)

I've been wearing glasses for about 12 years now, and though it's a bummer to be 100% dependent on them, even so I just love them =) Huzzah for being able to see clearly - huzzah for that 'just a little bit nerdy' look - huzzah for having a handy device for hanging festive ornaments off my face at Christmastime!
Without them I just don't look like myself, even my friends and family say I look ... "odd" when I take them off to clean 'em. Lasik surgery? Contacts? I'm sure they're great for plenty of folks but for me, glasses are the only way to go.

About the whole "headaches" thing: as people have said, it might simply be your eyes getting used to the new style of vision. Stick with it for a few weeks, but if things don't mprove by them, go back to your opticians and ask to have your eyes re-tested. The prescriptions aren't usually that inaccurate, but these things do happen...
Just so's you know, I work in an opticians, and I'm a lifetime glasses-wearer too, so I do know what I'm talking about. Okay, so I've never done any eye-tests in my life, and I'm not about too either, but you can't help avoiding picking up these kinds of tidbits.;)

Hell yeah. Glasses make cute girls that much cuter.
Personally have never needed to have aid of anything.
I started wearing glasses when I was about 14 or 15. At first, I didn't want to, and was thankful that I didn't get them while I was wearing braces (twice the dork). A few years later, though, I got some cool frames that I considered to be part of my "look". About a year ago, though I decided to go with contacts. Now I only wear glasses when I wake up in the morning and all I see when I look in the mirror is the bags under my eyes. Colored contacts are fun to wear, too, but they're not as comfortable and I don't usually wear them 8+ hours like the clear ones.
I do know that whenever I have the lenses changed, everything looks like its a few inches higher than it really is for a little while. It never caused a headache, but it can be annoying.

Seriously, though, can you describe the sensations you felt before, during and after surgery? I don't think I've heard anyone describe what it's like before, other than saying "it's great" or whatever.

Show-off! ;)
Seriously, though, can you describe the sensations you felt before, during and after surgery? I don't think I've heard anyone describe what it's like before, other than saying "it's great" or whatever. Sure no prob. The day I had the surgery I could not wash my eyes or wear any deodorant because the cent will affect the Eximer Laser. I had the Custom vue Lasik done. It is the advanced form of a regular Lasik because they measure the "fingerprint" of your eye and go by that. They take your lower and higher aberrations into account, that is what makes it much more accurate. They gave me a volume pill (sort of a sedative) to help me relax. I went into a clean room. They put eye drops in my eyes to num them. Then they lowered the chair I was sitting on to a bed position. They put a device called The lid Speculum on me, its a device that holds my eye lids open so I will not involuntarily blink. Then they sterilized my eye brows with an alcohol swab. Then they put an adhesive tape to tape my eye lashes to my eyebrows so nothing will fall down into my eye.
Then they put a device called the microkeratome. It uses vacuum suction to hold an eye in place. it does not hurt due to eye drops but I felt a lot of pressure (without the drops I think it would hurt like hell). The device uses very sharp and small blade to cut a flap in the cornea of the eye for the Eximer Laser to work.
http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y282/Solarflere/fig_5_art5_gross.jpg
There are about three Brands of Eximer Laser available that are approved by the FDA Visx Star4 laser and the Ladar vision. Visx Star4 is more advanced because it will track the movement of the eye to be very accurate.
The Laser took about 45 seconds, you hear a taping noise during it, something like an MRI machine. You smell a burning cent (like burning hair) because the Laser literally burns the layers of your eye to make it round. Your vision will fluctuate, it will be very blurry through out the whole procedure but you will see everything. then Once the Laser is done, the Doc uses a small brush to put the flap back into place and with out any stitches the flap reseals in seconds and the Doc views its progress. Then the suction is turned off, microkeratome is removed, tape is removed, Lid Speculum is removed and a black shield is put over the eye so the other eye can be done. One eye takes approximately 15 minutes. I was seeing 20/40 5 minutes after surgery, and full 100% 20/20 on the second day. First day and night I had to wear goggles so nothing would get into my eye. Eye irritation stopped after three days and eye dryness stopped after three weeks. Other side effects like sensitiveness to sunlight and halos and stars at night around lights went away in about a month.
Here is a link to an FDA site about LASIK, it will tell you everything you have to know.

I got glasses in 5th grade and then contacts right before my freshman year. I wear my contacts during the day and my glasses at night or when I'm too lazy to put my contacts in. I love them, except for when I get stuff in them. They're wonderful for softball and all that.

Worn 'em since I was 8 or so. First pair I had (which I think I still do somewhere) were Nintendo branded.

I never got used to my glasses, just ignored the headache. Bigger lenses seem to be better, but they aren't stylin and they are heavy.
I love my soft contacts, they sometimes make my eyes itch if they dry or get really old, but most times I don't know they're there.

I'm also a wearer of glasses; I can't function right without them seeing something. Everything is blurred to the max when I take mine off. Only time I take them off is to sleep.
But, I can still see stuff that's near me. Like right-up-on-my-face.
I'm considering getting lasik when I'm older though. :D
Fact: I hated glasses so much, when I was about in the first grade. I "accidentally" lost my glasses. I didn't need them until about the fourth grade! :D :p

As I've worn them for a few days now I'm getting more used to them. I hate being so dependant on something, but now I have a better idea of where I'm going when I'm driving!
When I take them off now I'm just suprized how blury things realy were for me. It's like watching a movie that's slightly out of focus and then somebody puts it in focus and your like "Yeah that's much better now!"
My glasses seem to get drity quite a bit. I'm not sure how, because I'm real carfull not to touch the lenses, but they're still dirty. How do you guys clean them? I've been using a tissue, sometimes with Windex and that seems to work, but are there any better ideas?
I don't think I could ever where contacts. I'm kinda like Racheal in that episode of Friends. I hate have stuff come close to my eye. That test they do where they blow air into your eyes...totaly freaked me out!!! They had to hold my eyes open to get it done. Unless I can sleep through it I doubt I'll ever be able to do the lasik thing. But I lood a lot smarter with glasses on so I guess it's all good!!

If they're plastic lenses, tissues aren't good. I can cheat, I just use the special cloth and cleaner Mom uses, she's alway had glasses.
When you take off glasses your eyes are used to the help and everything looks blurrrrier. In the morning is how you see without glasses. If I don't put them on I can live without them as long as I don't try to read. Once they've been on, forget it, I can't see any thing well.
When they test me with that air, I jump back about a foot (15c for those not familiar with real measurement :p ) It's not really fun watching her get frutrated, but I can't stay still. My contacts almost made me cry the first time I tried them, I could not get them out and they won't let you leave until you can show you can remove them. Goodgods that hurt. But once you get the trick, taking them in and out becomes easy. Mine are torix, so the hard part is not touch them when they do move cockeyed. I do even though I'm not supposed to.

I started wearing glasses in the fourth grade and was a little reluctant. I at first only wore them at school, but they grew on me. I started wearing contacts last year and occasionally wear them when I'm not lazy (i.e. amusement parks and frat parties).
And yes, glasses make girls look cute if they are the right type. I had one friend who had a pair of glasses that made her look unattractive even though she is beautiful.

Yes I wear glasses all the time, mainly because it takes too long for me to put on contacts and contacts make my eyes feel dry way too fast even when I put on some moisterizing stuff.
One thing I find annoying though is when you are working at Typhoon Lagoon and you have to go to the freezer to get the Mickey Bars and when you come out your glasses fog up because of the Florida heat, it takes forever to get them back to normal too.

I don't recall when I first started wearing glasses. I think it was in the first grade, I'll have to check my records. But I have had the same prescription for about seven years and the same frames for four. I actually look pretty good in them, especially with shorter hair and clean shaven. Although one day some kid who must have been eight years old or something thought I was Harry Potter (even though i look nothing like that). But besides that I haven't had any trouble.

Yes, I do indeed wear glasses. I've been wearing glasses since I was 14 years old.
I got them during Christmas vacation of 2001 and when I got back to school in January 2002, one of my female classmates said that my new glasses made me look sophisticated.
I prefer glasses over contacts (Which must be a big pain when putting them in and taking them out of your eyes). Besides that, I think I look better wearing glasses. :dexter:

When I first got glasses, I felt uncomfortable. I hardly had any friends before that and with glasses, I'm gonna have even less. I thought that and it came true. I had like I dunno.. maybe.. three friends? Anywho, what boosted up my morale was the fact that my bass idol wears glasses and he looks GOOD wearing glasses. :anime:
The four ladies who make up CLAMP are a favourite of mine and when they draw characters with glasses, I feel a lot better because they make wearing glasses cool.
Fuu-chan (Magic Knight Rayearth, in case some of you don't know) looks adorable wearing glasses; Yukito (Card Captor Sakura) is cute with glasses; Fujitaka (Card Captor Sakura) is so HANDSOME with glasses!! Too bad Fujitaka isn't real. ;)
Add to that: Dave Mustaine wears them now and then. Makes me feel better. :)
I think it was about 18-19 when I realised that glasses freakin' rock.

I first got glasses at the start of my sophmore year of High School in 1994. They were supposed to be used just during class, to see the board and stuff like that, but I grew tired of constantly taking them off and on, so I just started leaving them on all the time. I got used to them pretty quick, and fortunately knew some other people with glasses, so I didn't feel like an outsider. haha!! In 1999, I finally got around to getting a new pair that were smaller and nicer looking. In retrospect, my first pair of glasses were huge and whenever I see an old picture of me wearing them, I can't believe I didn't notice how ugly they were at the time. But I like my new pair.

During high school I alternated between glasses and contacts during the week. I'd wear contacts on Phy Ed. days and glasses on non-physical days.
Now in college I just wear glasses; I don't bother with contacts because I suck at putting them in. Sometime after I graduate, I plan to get laser eye surgery, though.

Is it just me, or do girls who wear glasses always look really cute?;)If they're cute to begin with.
But anyway, I've had glasses as far back as I can remember. Since before Kindergarten. So it would have to be 1992 at the earliest, maybe 1991. So I was either 5 or 6. I'm 18 now, and still wear them. I can't imagine life without them. I actually like them. What's weird is I went by "Chris" before I wore them, (or so say my parents) but as time went on, I insisted on being called "Christopher".
The only problem I ever have with them is my vision is sometimes off when I get a new pair. Everything has this curved look to it.

I've had glasses since I was in fourth grade.
My left eye has fairly normal vision, but my right eye is worthless past a foot. For several years before I got them, I worked by using the left eye at a distance and the right eye up close, leaving me with a habit of leaning very close to text I'm reading and without depth perception.
Since I can easily get by without them, I'm prone to not wearing them. Most often this is because I'm very, very obsessive about smudges and dirt, being unable to wear my glasses if they're dirty and sometimes just not up to going down the bathroom to clean them.
I don't dislike them, I actually look better with them on and I don't mind having better vision in my right eye. They can be awkward as the right lense is very thick and relatively heavy, while the left lense is little more than window glass, thus they are often crooked and I constantly correct their position.

One right here!
I've had them since second grade. They were these big lenses which I played with one time until the teacher scolded me. According to my parents, they were the only glasses they could find that wasn't expensive. Blame my bad eyesight on the TV; I was an avid TV watcher since I was a small kid.
I've also had headaches with one pair of glasses (which never happened before). It must've been those bright lights Costco had in every store.
Even though I would look better w/o them, I'm not abandoning my glasses. Too scared to wear contacts (and that I'm not a candidate for contacts anymore according to my eye doctor) and I'm not old enough for laser eye surgery.

I'm told I look good in (http://www.vikinghats.com/paul/Editor%20Headshot.jpg) hats, but not baseball caps. I just look dumb in those things, which is fine, because I don't like them. It was rather expensive, but I love my panama hat (http://www.villagehatshop.com/product1052.html)to death. It's also one of the petty few pieces of expensive clothing I own.
I've just never much liked sunglasses for some reason. I'd guess it's a combination of them being inconvenient and unflattering for me.

I used to wear glasses, and I hated it. Althoguh it did help my vision tremendously, they just made me look like a nerd. And I kept breaking them, that was a problem my parents didn't like.
Now, I wear contacts. They are way more comfortable then glasses, and now I don't look like a nerd. They are also better for sports, now I can play baseball without having to blow money on sports googles or something like that. My contacts used to fall out after long periods of not blinking, or just playing video games. That was annoying, and I lost a lot of contacts that way. Now, they don't fall out at all, they just move around on my eye so everything gets blurry.
