(With thanks to the mods for permission to advertise this here!)

What: A chat-a-thon, 24 hours of chatting to benefit victims of Hurricane Katrina

Who: You! And anyone else you'd like to invite to join us!

Where: http://www.jlauniverse.com (http://www.jlauniverse.com/) in the chat room (one will be set up for this purpose). In event of sudden site overload, the chat will be moved to AIM (send a message to MTGAT to be invited to the backup chatroom)

When: This Saturday, September 10, starting at 9am EDT (your time zone may vary) and going until Sunday, September 11 at 9am EDT.

Details: This is a fund-raising event, designed to be fun and also work towards a good cause. Everyone who participates will be asked to donate a minimum of one dollar per hour they intend to chat. Those of us in it for the Long Chat will put up a minimum of $24. Those who can only join us for two hours contribute $2, and so on. Get sponsors: go to your parents, teachers, friends and neighbors, and ask them to pledge a dollar (or even a quarter) for every hour you chat.

Where's the Money Going: All proceeds are going to the American Red Cross (http://www.redcross.org/). 4LuvOfBat is setting up a donation button on the site. You and your sponsors may also feel free to send them a check instead of donating online. All donations are being sent on the honor system, which is to say we're not going to check up on you to make sure you donated. (For those who want to and are comfortable doing so, feel free to forward along your Red Cross receipt to 4luv when you're done. No personal information will be collected from you.) To clarify, we're not collecting the money. You and your sponsors are donating it directly via the link on the front page of this site or the button in the chatroom the day of the chat-a-thon OR you and your sponsors can mail your check(s) directly to the Red Cross. (Please see their website (http://redcross.org/) for more information.)

What's in It for Me?: The proud feeling of having done something good for someone else in need. Also, we're getting together a few "prizes" for the people who bring in the most donations. Please see the thread at JLA Universe (http://www.jlauniverse.com/board/viewtopic.php?t=5232) for prize descriptions (updated as new offers roll in).

What're We Doing for Twenty Four Hours?: We're running a marathon of Justice League episodes, starting with "Secret Origins" and working our way up to "Starcrossed" (which will go over the 24 hour mark but might be a fun Dead Dog Party). Also, we'll have trivia and a few games. Bring your own pizza and sodas and also your own copies of the episodes. :)

Schedule of JL Marathon (all times Eastern Daylight Time; please adjust accordingly for your own time zone)

Sounds Great! How Do I Get Started?: First, if you're not registered with JLA Universe (http://jlauniverse.com/), do so now. The chat-a-thon thread (http://www.jlauniverse.com/board/viewtopic.php?t=5232) is being used as the sign-up thread. Just sign up and tell us how long you think you're going to chat. When you get sponsors, edit your post and let us know.

See you in the chatroom!

(If you have questions, please feel free to PM me.)

Very good idea Missy. Perhaps I should PM you about this so not to bring the thread off-topic but could those not in the US also do this if they want and simply go by the honour system format? I'm up for this and if I am able to get in there/can get in there I for one would honour this.

Good luck, hope you raise heaps.

EDIT: Put your first post in here if you want. I'm sure somebody from the site will answer my questions but instead of all of us making intro threads, I thought this would be a good 'port' for us to get to first. See you there. (http://www.jlauniverse.com/board/viewtopic.php?p=111933#111933)

EDIT again: Call it overzealousness, but I didn't notice Missy's link to the relevant thread. C'est La Vie.

I love you Merlin Missy!

I will be attending and besides Missy (who has offered to sponsor me) I also managed to get my Dad, sister and Melissa to sponsor me. We'll all be leaving our donations to the Red Cross at the supermarket.

I'll probably pop in and out during my favorite episodes. It's too bad my TV and my computer are in different rooms. Luckily I went through the entire series a couple of weeks ago so it is still fresh in my mind. I look forward to seeing all of you there!

Works for me. The official times for everything are listed in EDT to give people a chance to work out when to be there. It's best if we're all there at the same time, but I imagine only a few people are going to last the full 24 hours regardless.

See you at the chat!

Count me in. I don't have JL's first two seasons, but I do have JLU's.

*bump*

Just bringing this forward to let everyone know we've started the chat. Even if you can only come by for an hour, please consider dropping by.

Time zones and work has restricted me from being involved (and my apologies for my lack of private response). Which leaves me to wish you all the best on this worthy venture!

The chat-a-thon went very well, I am pleased to say. We raised a lot of money (still being tallied as folks let us know their totals) and hopefully, it'll help people. Thanks to all of you who came out yesterday. I saw a handful of familiar faces from TZ, and we even had visits from Tom Nguyen and Paul Dini. :D If you wanted to chat or otherwise help out but couldn't, the Red Cross (http://redcross.org) can still use whatever cash you can spare, and there are organizations who need time and/or goods even more than money. You can always PM me and I can point you to some places.

Thanks for lending a hand, everybody. See you when the new season of JLU starts next week!

MM:)
