View Full Version : Dorkin Talks "Superman Adventures" Finale!

Toon Zone had the chance to catch up with writer Evan Dorkin about his concluding two parter to the long-running comic book Superman Adventures. Below is what he had to say about the final story:

<a href="http://wf.toonzone.net/bbeyond/sac65.jpg"><img src="http://wf.toonzone.net/bbeyond/sac65.jpg" border=0 vspace=2 hspace=2 height=208 width=136 align="right"></a>"I don't really have much to say about the Power Play two-parter because I'm not particularly happy about the way it turned out -- and I blame our script for that. In a nutshell, Sarah and I pitched the story several years back, but never had the time to work on it. By the time we started scripting we learned Power Play was the final arc for the book. The story centered on Luthor and Livewire, and wasn't in any way designed to send off the series. I tried to compensate by adding too much business into the second issue to give it more of a payoff, but ultimately that just overstuffed the issue. Sarah and I tend to write dense scripts, but this one went overboard."

"I'm not trying to torpedo the books before they're out, I think issue one works pretty well and I there's some solid ideas in issue two, but the second half is too way too wordy and cramped. Maybe some folks will still get a kick out of it and see what we were trying to do -- I certainly hope so. I'm just afraid we fumbled the ball on this one."
