Ok, I saw 'Unbreakable' in the theatres, rented it on DVD and just this weekend watched it on the Starz channel. When I got to the end I noticed something...THEY CHANGED THE ENDING!!!!!!
Well, they didn't change the WAY it ended, but they did add something to it that just ruined it.

Now, for those who haven't seen the movie, STOP READING NOW!

Alright then.

When Bruce Willis confronts Elijah at the end of the movie and learns who and what he is he, originally, turns in shock/disgust and leaves the studio. End of movie.
Now in the version they just aired on Starz they added a couple of things. When Bruce first turns to walk out of the room after learning about Elijah's actions over the years they do a 'freeze-frame' on Bruce Willis' face and paste over it:
David led federal authorities to Limited Edition where they discovered evidence linking Elijah to 3 recent acts of terrorism.
Then they cut back to Samual Jackson as he tells Bruce that it was the childrens fault for calling him Mr. Glass. Now second freeze-frame:
Elijah was convicted and is now serving a life sentence in a prison for the criminally insane.

THAT'S JUST WRONG! The movie did NOT need this! Of course this was obviously added for the benefit of....SOMEONE....in response to the WTC tragedy. But do they REALLY think that we are stupid enough to think that Bruce's character wouldn't have come back and whipped-up on Elijah later? Did they have to add this little 'message' so that we'd feel better about the hero after being told that, yes he did bust him, and that the villain is now paying the penalty?
Yes, I know this seems a bit trivial, but it seems to me that the media, the government and everyone in-between is force-feeding us the idea that the WTC tragedy should not be forgotten (which it should not...don't get me wrong!) while at the same time erasing images of the twin towers from pretty much every new movie that is coming out in the future.
So maybe it's just me, but I found this to be an insult to the intelligence and sensibilities of the average American, not to mention spoiling a perfect ending to an excellent movie.

Ummm...that has nothing to do with the WTC...that`s the ending I saw when I rented the movie almost the first week it was out on video.

When did it not have that???

I'm pretty sure that was in there when the movie was in theatres as well. I only saw the movie once and that was at the theatre. I remember thinking "Well, that wasn't Shamalan's idea," because I knew he wanted to make this a trilogy and wanted a "Empire Strikes Back," to-be-continued, type of ending. Studio execs. I love these guys.

Hmmmmm....
I distinctly remember it NOT being in the theatre version and I'm pretty sure it wasn't on the DVD.
But then again I may have missed it on the video release. Blasted short-term memory loss.

Well, guess I was ranting for no reason. huh. :o

Never mind then.
I'll go back to bed.

That's is on my DVD and I know it was in the theaters when I saw it, too. I didn't think it was anything new.

Yep, it was there in the theaters. I thought the little epilogue was kind of out of place and laughable when I saw it. I'd rather have him just walk out and have it end there.

I didn't mind the epilogue so much. I mean, people that I've talked to have said that they hated it, but I understand Shamalan's problem: he needed to end the movie on a high note--the creation of their superhero/supervillain rivalry--but he also needed the closure of him being inprisoned. I thought that it worked fine...and I'm glad that they ended the movie there rather than drag it out for who knows how long.

That was a great film. I can't wait for the sequels (?).

From my understanding, there will be two more movies, one where he discovers more of his powers and really develops as a superhero, and a third with Mr Glass breaking out of prison and a final confrontation.

Directors really love their trilogies dont they?

I'm going to have to watch Unbreakable again, the first time I saw it in the theaters I was unimpressed. I thought one of the coolest part of the movie was that it showed bits of my school in it. It's possible I had my expectations too high though. I'd expect each movie to get better though, since they've done all of the backstory so far. It should be interesting.

I guess Lucas made it sheik. The first thing I'm going to do when I have Hollywood clout is make the first part of the trilogy I'm writing. I wan to direct the first installment. Then I'll hire a different director for each of the other two movies.

That's always been there. The original planned ending was kind of...sad. Read the script. Anyway...anyone see the extras? The scene with the priest? Wow...powerful stuff.

UNBREAKABLE had to have a COMIC BOOK ENDING...
