This week's issue of Wizard magazine has a rather lengthy feature on cartoons, and happened to pronounce JLU to be the #1 cartoon on the air right now! There's a two-page spread on the show, and while it doesn't really include much new information, there's a few fun quotes from Timm and McDuffie, as well as a sidebar about the upcoming season.

For instance, it seems that the Legion of Doom will be unlimited, as many of us suspected. So if you don't see your favourite villain in the teaser for "We Are Legion", take heart... he's probably around there someplace.

At any rate, probably not worth picking up for the article alone, but whatever. Figured everyone would want to know this was out there.

Thanks for the information, it's probably to late to pick the magazine up, form the store, since new ones are released every week, but I will try to check it out at the library.

You might be thinking of Comic Shop News... but I doubt a library would carry either.

I don't know if it's been posted or not, but Wizard Magazine's October 2005 issue features "The 100 Greatest Toons of All Time." Though, it's not a straight 100 to 1 countdown type list, they divide toons (tv and movies) into different sub-categories, each featuring its respective 10 toons...

For the "Top 10 Toons on the Air", JLU made it to numero uno... it's a pretty sweet article too. Featuring comments from Bruce Timm & Dwayne McDuffie. It also has an "In the Beginning" mini-article, showing how the DCAU evolved from the classic "Batman: The Animated Series" to the current JLU show.

All I can say is kudos! Nice to know one of my fave shows on the tube is getting the respect it deserves!

n/e thoughts? :)

(btw, for n/e one interested or too lazy in buying the issue, the list for the top 10 toons on tv were:
10. Super Robot Monkey Team Hyper Force Go!
9. Spongebob Squarepants
8. The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy
7. Aqua Teen Hunger Force
6. Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends
5. Venture Bros.
4. Teen Titans
3. South Park
2. Family Guy
1. well... u kno...

I'm suprised that a bunch of Comic book geeks didn't put Danny Phantom on that list especially after the two wonderful T.V movies that have come out in the last month or so.

And I'm a bit suprised Billy and Mandy made it. It's a very funny show, but it just doesn't seem like a show Wizard would pick.

It's nice to see the DCAU finally get some recognition. :)

You'd think that, by now, the DCAU would have reached franchise status in popularity, since it's got as many episodes now (with internal continuity!) as other franchises, like Dragonball, Pokemon, Star Trek, etc...

I'm glad the DVD box sets are finally starting to come out, but where's my big DCAU coffee table book? :p

Cool, give credit where credit is deserved, finally JLU gets some respect. Anyways, If its not asking too much what were the top 100 toons? I must know what they said.

It didn't really list the Top 100 toons, but had about 10 categories where they listed there top 5 or 10 favorites.

Other DCAU related things listed are:

Slade got voted Number 9 and Mr. Freeze got voted Number 4 in the top 10 bad guys.

ROTJ Director's Cut was voted Number 4 and B:TAS Volume 2 was voted Number 2 in top ten dvd's.

BB was voted Number 3 in top 5 most anticipated dvd sets.

And Black Canary was voted Number 2 in top ten fly ladies.

I'm not sure how they came up with Volume 2 of BTAS as the best of the 3 available. Set one has the "classic" episodes like Gray Ghost, TwoFace and Heart Of Ice. And set 3 is the set getting the best reviews outside of animation fandom. They say that it has the greatest collection of episodes out of the 3 sets with the least number of stinkers. Glad to see that BTAS got some recognition in a mag, but I personally feel that set 2 was the weakest out of the bunch.

10. Super Robot Monkey Team Hyper Force Go!Erm... exactly which factors of the shows were taken into account when they say "Greatest"? (As I've mentioned before, that show's low framecount is an eyesore)

Sign, TMNT should have been on that list, even if it was at the end. TMNT just doesn't get recognized by the press.

It says with the introduction of Talia, Ra's Al Ghul, and The Riddler, it made the set the definite run. If they chose according to these three characters, they should have went with Volume 3, where Ra's is actually in 4 episodes outside of a 20 second cameo, and Volume 3 has the best Riddler story, so there reason for choosing Volume 2 wasn't very valid.

I'm not really sure that I like them putting kid's shows and adult shows in the same running...

J L U is the number one cartoon of all time. I will tell you why. It follows more or less what D C has done in its comics throughout the years. It is well written. And it gives all the D C fans a glimpse of their favorite characters. Even the Green Lantern Corps have made an appearance or two on the show. What more can you ask for? It's great stuff. No other show has done this. Maybe the X- Men in the 90's, but even that was only limited to just the mutants. J L U goes beyond showing the team, it shows all kinds of characters we haven't seen in a show before. Speaking of X- Men, J L U feels like that show from the 90's. The way the group is portrayed and how they interact is very much like it.

I would like to apologize to everyone for duplicating this thread. The next time I have dated material I will do a search. I have sent an e-mail to TBalena giving my regrets!
With all of this aside, does anyone know if TWF has appeared in Wizard? If they haven't they deserve to be.

That's all fine and dandy, but doesn't really mean anything...it's a magazine by and for comic book geeks...

It's sad to say that they did not do their top 100 Greatest Cartoons of all time but instead they did the top 10 cartoons on the air, meaning still having new episodes.

I find it quite funny to see Scooby-Doo top the 10 worst show list since it did well the last time they did the top 100 Greatest Cartoons of all time list a few years ago.
