Tonight it ends. Since it debuted as a special program in 1999 that saw the formation of the Corporate Ministry, SmackDown! has been on Thursday nights. Started to expand the WWE TV offerings, SmackDown! took aim at Friends and Survivor as WWE's own version of "must see TV." A ratings winner, it premiered when UPN was still finding itself as a network and has consistently been their top-rated program. About to enter its seventh "season," WWE SmackDown! airs for the final time and Friday Night SmackDown! will come you way next week at the same time, but on a different night.

Farewell to Thursdays
September 1, 2005

SmackDown!’s last show on Thursday night before moving to Fridays on Sept. 9 will be a huge event.

Two major matches have been announced as Randy Orton, who has been on quite a roll since defeating Undertaker at SummerSlam, will take on Rey Mysterio, who now has full custody of Dominick.

Meanwhile, in a SummerSlam rematch, United States Champion Chris Benoit will face Orlando Jordan. It took Benoit a mere 25 seconds to defeat Jordan at SummerSlam.

With JBL scheduled to get his SummerSlam rematch with World Heavyweight Champion Batista on Sept. 9, anything is possible.

Also, will network executive Palmer Canon continue to meddle with General Manager’s Theodore Long’s work?

Plus, could we see more of Mr. Kennedy, who seems to enjoy ring announcing as much as he does wrestling?

Don’t miss the last SmackDown! on Thursday night on UPN (8/7) CT.

Another funny Benoit bit. http://67.18.37.14/html/emoticons/laugh.gif http://67.18.37.14/html/emoticons/laugh.gif I hope his match next week will be considerably longer, even against Orlando.

So Sylvain Grenier is now a Rico/Kwee-wee type character now. One of the worst gimmicks I've seen... this month. Seriously, it's horrible. I also find it odd that it could also be a similiar gimmick to his old running buddy Rob Conway. And we were also robbed of a match too as they did nothing but hug Hardcore Holly which is horrible in its own right. http://67.18.37.14/html/emoticons/ohmy.gif http://67.18.37.14/html/emoticons/ohmy.gif

A gimmick that isn't horrible is Ken Kennedy. Another impressive intro by him.

I have mixed feelings on the Batista squash. I did like him as Popeye, but on the other hand, he was way too comedic to be treated seriously, his end pose etc. I still like how Batista was booked before the Evolution split when he threatened the Game, then saying he was kidding.

I really loved Eddie's promo. Wrestling needs more promos like that. Personal and threatening promos.

Orton/Mysterio was good, though the usual mulitple chinlocks (for a randy Orton match) made this not that great.

Okay SD! tonight. The main event was great and I'm really happy that the WWE is giving us good matches on TV with year (HBK/Shelton, Angle/Shelton, Christian/Orton are a few off the top of my head). And I loved the Super RKO/Top Rope RKO. It was great.

I'm liking the Benoit 'What can I do in *insert amount of time*?' He's showing personality which is great since he needed one greatly. He's in my top 5 now. Sure it's burying in Orlando but meh. And I predicted a 20 sec. beatdown next week.

Sly-VON is well... Better than Conway.

Mr. Kennedy is cool. And glad Christian isn't getting beatdown for once. Dumb person who is named Captain Charisma. Christian probably has a lot more charisma than you.

The Batista/Dean segement was cool. Batista's improving his mic skills slowly but surely and I loved the things he said. The match? Not so much. The pin? Yeah. That made me giggle.

Eddie's promo made him sound emo. The cage didn't help either.

Good-bye Thursdays, hello pre-emption hell.

Paul Burchill. Devastating shoulderbreaker that wouldn't win a match. But followed up immediately by an armbar... I like it. I'd like to see more combo-finishers in the future.

Ken Kennedy's intro is still too long. If they want to do that schtick, they need to have him do it as he's walking to the ring. Christian and Kennedy would make good allies.

Dean vs Batista: It's not often WWE pulls off funny-silly. Usually, it's just stupid-silly.

Farewell, Thursday Smackdown, and thanks for getting out of the way of CSI.

So that's how little creative energy the WWE has left, using Sylvain Grenier's sexuality as his gimmick? Also, they need to watch making all of their "gay" characters heels - they don't need to be attacked by angry leftwingers. :p

Christian is still Captain Charisma, screw that indy jobber.

I noticed Hardcore Holly came out after Sylvain made a joke about Kirstie Alley. I guess that was his way of defending her. :p

SD! wasn't all too bad for a Thursday finale:

Benoit had a bathroom trip in 23.4 seconds, the same amount of time it took him to defeat OJ. I hope he was peeing OJ

The Undertaker retirement fund eh... I'll donate the "He Buries Them Alive" DVD. (Just kidding).

Eddie's promo=fantastic. Can't wait for the cage, but unfortunately, teh Yankees are suck at this point.

Well, I hate the Yankees for delaying SD, gonna record it.

ya know, Michael Cole chose the single best clip for his favorite from Thursday Nights. That was an awesome match.

Also John Cena's (Smack Down:3/27/2003) death valley driver on Rikishi (See attached Pic)was the first time that I recognized him as an amazing athlete, and began cheering for him regardless of his then status as a Heel.

If you ask me, MNM was entitled to do whatever they wanted after ‘LOD’ threatened Melina with the Doomsday Device. Hopefully when these two teams meet for the Tag Titles, this entire chrade will be over.

And here I was hoping that Palmer Canon and the Network were going to offer to have Jillian’s ‘thing’ stripped off her face.

I liked “Cowboy” Bob Orton, I really do, but at this point I still don’t see a ton potential for him to be accompanying Randy to the ring. Although it already started to grow on me when they were in the ring so I guess we’ll see.

Could it be that Chris Benoit might finally get over for something other than his wrestling skills? The segment in the bathroom with Josh was great and he even washed his hands!

23.4 seconds. On the flip side, this is the most non-JBL attention Orlando Jordan has gotten… ever.

 Ohmygod, what the hell did they do to Sylvain Grenier?! :crying: A slight re-tooling of the French-Canadian version of La Résistance was all that he needed. Instead, they drop of his last name and make him a crappy version of Rob Conway. *checks watch* Sylvain Grenier, time of death, 8:39 p.m.

So Ken Kennedy beats Booker T on SmackDown! and Christian didn’t at The Great American Bash?! I just hope Captain Charisma’s feud with Booker T brings up to the next level on the blue ladder. God knows he’s several rungs down from where was on the red ladder.

Simon Dean. No wonder Batista was “in action.” On the other hand, the Champ certainly made the most of it with the Simon Milk. :D “Simon.” “Yes Dave.” “I feel more aggressive.”

Not a bad debut for William Regal’s new charge, Paul Burchill. Remember, “stuff happens on Velocity too.” The shoulder breaker-armbar combination should prove to be a good one. I’m not Scotty 2 Hotty, but if I get beat up a guy bigger than me because he brings in a guy bigger than he is, I don’t go get someone smaller than me to take them on.

In his quest to beat Rey Mysterio, Eddie Guerrero has now lost everything—including his mind. I have no trouble believing that Eddie has nothing left to lose and that should make him all the more dangerous.

Solid main event with Randy Orton and Rey Mysterio. Lots of great action that went back and forth. It looked like either man could win and then that Rey-Rey would win until the elder Orton got involved.

So that's how little creative energy the WWE has left, using Sylvain Grenier's sexuality as his gimmick?Come again?

This entire angle will be worth it if someone flips a quarter at here and says, "Go downtown and have a rat gnaw that thing off your face."

please tell me someone gets that reference.

If you ask me, MNM was entitled to do whatever they wanted after ‘LOD’ threatened Melina with the Doomsday Device. Hopefully when these two teams meet for the Tag Titles, this entire chrade will be over.

Team Poseur (MNM) needs to be paying dues instead of getting the tag titles back. With Smackdown reduced to an hour next week due to a benefit concert (Hurricane Katrina benefit), the title change may be delayed a wee bit longer.

Funny stuff. Jordan never had any cred as US champ to start with, and now he's being embarassed by Benoit.

Did someone rent "Zoolander" for Grenier, and did he fall asleep watching it?

So Ken Kennedy beats Booker T on SmackDown! and Christian didn’t at The Great American Bash?! I just hope Captain Charisma’s feud with Booker T brings up to the next level on the blue ladder. God knows he’s several rungs down from where was on the red ladder.

Christian's been with the company 8 years, and he sits and watches a new guy beat Booker and jump past him in the pecking order. Trust me, Kennedy will be US champ by the end of the year before Capt. Chumpstain gets there.

Simon Dean. No wonder Batista was “in action.” On the other hand, the Champ certainly made the most of it with the Simon Milk. :D “Simon.” “Yes Dave.” “I feel more aggressive.”

Very funny stuff. If that doesn't tell the creative team that the Dean gimmick is deader than a banker's conscience, I don't know what will.:D :D :D

They always feed the cruisers to the new "monster" heels. Burchill is a keeper, a real hoss.

Bob Orton, Jr. should've been ejected as soon as he got caught interfering with Rey-Rey. Mysterio should've gotten the win here, which would set up Eddie winning the cage match next week. Eddie's 0-7 in singles vs. Mysterio this year. Will the cage give Eddie that win, finally? You'd hope.

Team Poseur (MNM) needs to be paying dues instead of getting the tag titles back. With Smackdown reduced to an hour next week due to a benefit concert (Hurricane Katrina benefit), the title change may be delayed a wee bit longer.WWE needs to start taking both tag division seriously again and a good start would be taking the belts off Heidenreich and the extremely out of shape Animal. It was neat when it seemed like it was a one-shot deal, but this can't last.

Christian's been with the company 8 years, and he sits and watches a new guy beat Booker and jump past him in the pecking order. Trust me, Kennedy will be US champ by the end of the year before Capt. Very funny stuff. If that doesn't tell the creative team that the Dean gimmick is deader than a banker's conscience, I don't know what will.:D :D :D The fact that it was funny shows the potential entertainment value of Simon Dean. You needed both of them to make that work. Dean won't be World Champion, but he works much better than I expected when the infomercials first started airing.

They always feed the cruisers to the new "monster" heels. Burchill is a keeper, a real hoss.I think you missed my point.
