Ok, please don't eat me alive. I have a complaint. Then a question.

I'm very confused on the whole Robin issue. I'm getting pretty pissy with the whole DC comics on TV. I mean, TT is great, and I couldn't get through the week without JLA, but I just can't handle all the contradictions! Maybe it's made to make the show more fluid, but I just blitz out. I wish they'd stick to the punchline.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't Dick Greyson become Nightwing shortly after evil Raven ruins his marriage with Starfire? If that's right, then why do all the shows on TV (particularly JLA and TT) and even a few articles from DC mention that it's Timothy Drake? AHHHHH!!!! Confusion.

Teen Titans isnt in anyway connected to the BTAS/STAS/ or JL/JLU animated shows. Itis its own animal all together. I tend to think of the Robin as Dick Grayson since there was that future episode where he was Nightwing. Some still insist that its Tim Drake.

So the regular DCAU is pretty consistant with the comics to some degree but Teen Titans is its own seperate and highly anime influenced show. I love it personally. I know its not the DCAU and its entertaining. For some reason though I just cant get into The Batman(I have tried multiple times but I just cringe!)

You know, I'm not much for The Batman either. It's just not right. There are some things about Batman that it completely reinvents. It bugs me.

But I went through some of the old TT comic books I found... (Found a whole LARGE UHAUL box FULL of DC Comic books at a Garage sale for 15$) I mean, there was Starfire, Raven, Cyborg, Beast Boy, and Robin....(Edit note: Yeah, there was also Kid Flash (That's a whole ball of wax.) Then there were SuperBoy and SuperGirl.)

But what's killing me...is which one!!! I guess I gotta find the few issues of DC comics where it explains the transition of Grayson, Todd, and Drake. Ah yes...the joy of confusion.

Well in the DC comics Grayson becomes Nightwing after deciding to leave Batman as his partner. Then Batman goes solo for awhile till he gets Jason Todd. Todd is then killed by the Joker(by phone in no less!). Solo Batman again till Tim Drake was introduced and they also made that much nicer Neal Adams designed ninja like outfit for Robin.

As far as Teen Titans Robin/Nightwing led for a long time and I know that Tim Drake is in there now but I havent read Teen Titans in years.

It's a cartoon. Don't worry yourself about it.Stop trying to make all the universes work together. Ignore it. Just relax and enjoy watching the show(s). Do yourself a favor... :)

Umm, well in TT comics the only Robin ever in the TT was Dick Grasyon, until a few years ago when Tim Drake joined, but by then Dick was long gone from the group as well as all the founding members(Robin/Dick. Wonder Girl/Donna, Kid Flash/Wally, Speedy, Aqualad)

I guess the confusion comes from the fact that in the last Batman animated show, Dick Grayson was Nightwing and Tim Drake was Robin. Then Teen Titans comes along, not in continuity with Batman, and has a Robin who they don't reveal his identity.

He's dressed like Tim (and his obsessive personality skews more towards Tim) and has his costume and weaponry, but all the hints about his past and future imply that he's Dick, who has a longer history with the Titans.

Dick Grayson was a founding member and Jason Todd was an associate. Tim Drake's first team was Young Justice, where he was leader during most of the incarnation, until the group "graduated" to the Teen Titans where they joined some TT veterans (the story where Tim becomes a Titan happened in 2003, I believe).

Yeah, you just gotta get use to the fact that not all of it connects. I mean, it was hard for me to get use to after going from BTAS to TNBA to Beyond with all that continuity.

Look at it this way. All the DC heroes and their stories are ingrediants that other writers and directors can use to make series.

Good point and, if I remember correctly, the creators of TT have stated that they will never give a definative answer on the subject, I tend to believe it's Dick Grayson but that's just me

I think the whole idea was to write him with elements of both Tim and Dick to make him contemporary yet true to his roots.

So I think the whole point is he isn't either and neither. He's ROBIN. He's what Tim Drake and Dick Grayson brought to the role of ROBIN in the comics. You can clearly see elements of both in there. A gestalt of their influences on the icon manifested as one character.

That make sense, to me at least

You know what I've noticed? Tim Drake was quite loopy. Maybe a little obsessive. Dick Grayson was every bit the leader. You're right. It made for a perfect Robin.
