This is the talkback thread for Japan's Oldest Anime Uncovered (http://news.toonzone.net/article.php?ID=5316).

Even though I'm no big fan of anime (save for Lupin and Case Closed), I thought this was an interesting news. Hope more details will surface, and maybe a quicktime clip of that discovery)

Anime News Network already put up this story a while back but this is still quite fascinating.

I would like to see a DVD compilation of all these first animations in Japan. It would be quite a treat to collectors. :)

For those interested in seeing the anime itself, someone at a different messageboard put the frames together into an animated gif:

It seems pretty doubtful that something so grand as that will ever come state side. Anime here is suppose to be all "high-tech-super-cute-bigs-eyes-big-boobs-crazy-kid's-show-angsty-drama".

Personally, I'd love it if they had a collector's DVD that included The Postman, Mamotaro's Divine Sea Warriors and every other piece of Japanese animation before 1950. After all, Disney released their war-time cartoons and even Warner Brothers aired their Looney Toons war propoganda cartoons for one night on Cartoon Network.

How much longer do I have to wait until I get see that one war-time anime where Japanese fighter pilots attack Popeye?

Before Anime: Japanese Animation 1925-1946
Tue Jun 21, 9:30pm / Sat Jun 25, 5pm, Directors Guild, $10.00
Long before anime became a multi-billion dollar industry, Japanese animation was already a thriving artform. From early attempts through the introduction of sound and culminating in propaganda from World War II, this program charts twenty years of work from some of the most influential artists of their times.

LA Film fest had screened some anime from dating from 1925 -1946 in June.

Check this story out.. (http://news.awn.com/index.php?ltype=cat&category/Films&newsitem_no=14687)

This is gonna rewrite the history books, at least in Japan. This cartoon was made by drawing diectly on the film, a technique still in use in some places, though we still don't know who made it.
