i orginally posted this qs on the 'catwoman #1 talkback" thread, but for some strange reason i cant find it, it seems to have dissapeared, so anyway, i have a question...

if batman: year one is part of the dc continuity, as made apparent by catwoman #1 and #94, then doesnt that cause some problems, mainly the fact that commisioner gordon knows (or atleast it is highly highly implied) that bruce is batman in year one? and the fact that he knows batman is bruce in tdkr, sort of confirms he knows. so what does that do to the continuity? i just think year one works so much better as an elseworlds story. any thoughts?

Im not exactly sure about this, but to the best of my knowledge Batman Year One will not be based on the comic of year one- so that commish thing doesn't matter.

Of course, I very well could be completely wrong. :)

I do believe tdkr is considered an elseworld story by DC.

About the Catwoman movie, interviews with the current writers suggest that they're still going along with Batman Returns` story line, but Year One (if it is based on the comic) will be tossing that movie out the window. So it'll be interesting to see what will happen to the movie script now.

I just hope that they make a great movie that fits in with the events of Batman and Batman Returns. I know that they want to go in a different direction, which is good, but going back in time and still including Joker and Catwoman practically erases the first two movies, which don't deserve to be forgotten. Besides, movie-goers aren't dumb. When they go to see the next Batman film, they'll be saying, "I thought the Joker was dead" and "Didn't Michelle Pfiffer already play Catwoman?". Chances are, they'll be confused, and a simple "We're going in a different direction folks, cause we started to mess this franchise up" won't make for good PR.

DG incorporated the "Catwoman #1 Talkback" thread into the "Batman/Superman Weekly Comics Talkback" thread. Go there to see other responses to your questions.

Give the "Year One" GN to Brian Helgeland, who adapted the novels L.A. Confidential and Payback into screenplays. Then take that script and put it in the hands of Alex Proyas, director of The Crow and Dark City. How could that movie not kick all kinds of arse?

As for catwoman. She seemed tacked on in the comic anyway. This is a Bruce/Gordon story. Actually, you could argue that Gordon is the main character. Anyway. No Catwoman, no Joker and no batmobile would all be +'s IMO. But, keep Dent in this one.

This thread seems to have taken an odd turn away from it's original question.. but anyway...

Gordon definitely knows in TDKR, but that is an Elseworlds story. Why do you think that Gordon knows Batman's secret I.D. in Year One, though? I personally think that Year One is an excellent story on its own and as a beginning to Batman's career in the "in-continuity" DC Universe. Just my thoughts.
