"Until we're syndicated Fox will never let us die! Please?" --Stewie
There wasn't much of a possibility beforehand, but now the chances of Family Guy making the fabled 100th episode are pretty good. All they need is one more season (past the coming one) to get there.
Of course, 100 is the syndication mark, and most prime-time TV shows' reruns are sold to local affiliates at that point. But with Family Guy, the case is kind of different.
For one thing, I'm not even sure there are syndication rights to it anymore. It's possible CN and TBS have a lock. And if syndication IS possible, then what would be the point? Everybody has been watching it multiple times a week on Adult Swim for two years now. It kind of already has gotten the special "syndicated treatment", in a way. Why would people want to watch the old episodes yet again, on another channel, and THIS time edited for time and content? As you can see, there's already another thread that's skeptical about South Park being syndicated, and that's not even being run 5-a-week on CC. You can currently only see old shows if you buy the DVDs.
But a ton of people have the Family Guy DVDs; over three million. What would be the benefit of selling FG into syndication in 2007?
.....My wager: if they can do it, they'll try it anyway. After all, my local WB affiliate is actually going to put on syndicated Sex and the City episodes this fall. Hand-me-downs from edited versions on TBS. Who'd watch it? Doesn't matter, it's there because advertisers will still pay to be seen on the famous show. It'll be the same for Family Guy. It all comes down to the money.
