I'm so excited. While watching the roasting of Pamela Anderson the other night... yeah I said it!!!... I saw a commercial that new seasons of "Drawn Together" and "South Park" were premiering in October!

I cannot wait to see DT back on TV again! I also can't wait for the DVD set of the first season with the missing episode? What'll you think will happen on "Drawn Together" this year?

Did the commercial show the original cast returning?

Oh, goody. This'll make a lot of people happy.

Anyway, regardless of whether or not they continue the first season's cliffhanger or reset the house plot, changes have to be made if they want to continue this show and actually gain fans.

Look, the fact of the matter is, Drawn Together: Season 1 crashed and burned because, unlike South Park, who uses mature humor/situations to actually prove a point or opinion (i.e., it has a purpose), DT exploited mature "humor", simply because there was nothing preventing its use. The show didn't need to be crass every 7 seconds, but they did anyway.

*Aside- I did laugh at the show sometimes. Not at all during the MA moments, mind you. I laughed when they actually relied on jokes, from time to time.

Unlikely as it may seem, they need to get rid of the crass humor, or at least put some kind of limit. There's a fine line between edgy and sophmoric, and if the creators can't realize this, Season 2 will be its last.
In effect, its sophomore season will fail because of sophmoric humor [insert rimshot here].

They showed Toot exposing herself after they showed Cartman... exposing himself.

I don't care either way. I don't watch Drawn Together.

But - yay!

Oh, good. There is a serious shortage of disgusting idiotic smut on television.

Oh, good. There is a serious shortage of disgusting idiotic smut on television. Thanks for the constructive criticism. The show's by no means perfect, and there were some parts that were crude for the sake of being crude (which I'm certainly not a fan of), but the show itself wasn't terrible. It's got a great cast of characters and when it pulls it off, it can be absolutely hilarious. Outright bashing the show like that is completely unnecessary and doesn't reflect very well back on you.

I might give the new season a look, I hope the writers have stepped it up a bit though. Last season wasn't very good because all of it was just trying hard to be controversial without being funny and just a bunch of gross out humor.

I wish it was Chapelle and South Park returning rather than South Park and this though (before anyone starts, I know it was Dave's decision to end it.) BTW, anyone remember how Odd Todd (internet cartoon) was going to be a show on Comedy Central? Anyone know if it's still in the works or just canned?

Crashed and burned? If I recall the ratings were pretty damn good for the first season.

Glad to see this show returning. Hope Ling-Ling or someone like Ling-Ling comes back, he's my favorite character. and this is a little off-topic but I saw some DT Shirts at a Hot Topic the other day, I only saw two of them, One is Spanky peeing on the show's logo and the Other is Foxxy and Clara Make-out. I guess the merchandise could have been a little hint of the show coming back.

Captain Hero is the only character I like on the show since he's ment to be random and has the best sense of humor out of the entire cast. Everyone else stepping out of character during many mood points in each episode really make the plot and gags fall flat on it's face. Hopefully there will be less of that this time around. Xandar needs be more involved with the video game universe since they've subjected him around that instead of Japanese or Fantasy cartoons which fits his design better. Showing up for the show to just be gay doesn't cut his true personality. And for the love of Moses can we have less Pig Penis from Spanky please?

Outside of the characters, the music really needs to be tuned up. Without question it needs to be composed better and become more memorable. Every song done there was a cheap knockoff or just plain garbage.

This show wasn't bad, Captain Hero was freakin awesome. Seriously, put him & Xandir or Spanky in their own show & it would be fantastic. I just can't stand that Foxxy chick, she annoys me to no end.

Ugh.

I really hope this season, the show actually lives up to the premise. You think a show that makes fun of reality tv stereotypes and cartoon archetypes wouldn't be so bad. They just need to ditch all the gross out humor and "LOOK AT US WE'RE AN ADULT CARTOON"ness of the show.

So, do I watch it again to review the first episode of the new season to see if I can draw further ire and spite from the creator of the show, or do I leave it at my initial caustic review?

Eh, I've got too many DVDs to review...

The ratings were okay if I recall.
But count me with those not glad to see it return.
I watched a bunch of season one and stayed out of the talkbacks, I'm pretty sure, because I had nothing good to say about it.
I know I found the humor to be celebration of the disgusting idiotic smut found on reality shows rather then a commentary on it.

Drawn Together proves that imitation is the sincerest form of insult.

I was on the fence about whether I should have posted that or not, but I'm kind of glad I did. I personally find it hard to believe that fans of a show that goes out of it's way to offend half of it's audience are surprised when people don't like it. You may think a short snarky comment reflects badly on me. Well, I think the entire show reflects quite badly on the creaters.

Look, I won't diss the fans of the show because people shouldn't be judged upon what they watch on television. I will say that the show IS disgusting and that I'm surprised a little comment like that from me could be considered as offensive as the show goes out of it's way to be.

To set things straight with the ratings, I specifically remember they were right near South Park level the entire season. There's no other way DT would of gotten a second season if it wasn't at least that level, due to the fact it's a tradionally animated show and thus costs a fair amount to make.

And as for whether there will be more gross out humor this season, I would say expect some, since from what I remember, one of the writers posted on the talkbacks for the episodes and after the first season aired said they would be doing more disgusting/gross out jokes for the next season because the writing team liked that type humor and it's what tested well to the auidence or something. I hope they do it in moderation: DT's best when it lampoons the subject material of the genre in question.

I agree that the show is disgusting at times, but to say that that's the ONLY thing the show does is an overstatement. Family Guy and Aqua Teen Hunger Force are both disgusting at times, but that's not the only thing that those shows have going for them.

It strikes me that it also tried hard to be a parody of cartoon characters and reality shows but I find that it fails at that as well.

I think a show generally has to be good on some level (story, characters, have a soul) to truly be funny. The problem with 'Drawn Together' is that it's so cynical and sarcastic that it's depressing.
