I was reading this post (http://forums.toonzone.net/showthread.php?t=147666) and there's a part that I found really interesting that I'll quote:

Personally, I don't think there is such a thing as a true animation fan. Whether you like 1980's cartoons, the old 1930 silent material, Bruce Timm stuff, Disney stuff, whatever, you are an animation fan. Nothing makes you a "true fan." If I had to consider anyone a "true" animation fan, it would be just about every person who loves talking about cartoons and has a great passion for them, no matter what the shows are. To me, it's not what you watch that defines your stature as an animation fan, or what you like or hate. What defines you as an animation fan is appreciating what you see before you, no matter what company produces it. There may be some recommend viewings that other fans to suggest, but nothing that will instantly catapult you from "regular animation fan" to "true animation fan" in an instant.
I really recommend everyone read the full post (http://forums.toonzone.net/showthread.php?t=147666). So does anyone agree or disagree with the statement?

See, when I read stuff like this-- I just think that there is nothing that makes one animation fan better, or more pure as a fan--- than another. If you're a fan-- you're a fan.

So I guess my answer would be that there is no such thing as a true fan-- not because no one can be as sublime as "true fan", but more along the lines of 'nothing really can classify a true fan'.

You can be a little more hardcore than other people--- but a fan is a fan is a fan.

Ooh boy, Ronixis again. Wish I had never unleashed his evil upon the board...

Well, anyway. Nearest I can tell, Ronixis claims that Toon Zone "doen't really support animation" is that he feels that the site supports anime more than the mainstream American industry. But yet, since when was the mainstream American industry the be-all and end-all of animation? Read Chris "Animation Pimp" Robinson's articles at AWN.com, for one; he's a guy who attends festivals and sees plenty of indie/arthouse animation, and when he writes about American TV cartoons he's generally very dismissive (to date I've seen him praise two cartoon shows, both of which were British).

And yet, he's also very dismissive of a lot of the indie/arthouse stuff. That's high standards for you...

Hmm... I always considered myself an animation fan. Never mind that I A) prefer Superman over Batman, B) don't like anime at all, and C) hate "Family Guy", all of which puts me at odds with others on this forum...

I like a lot of animation and appreciate the medium, thus I am a true animation fan. The end. Anything further is anal fanboy bullcrap.
