I swear, one of these days, i'm going to have to enroll myself into Square TV Owners anonymous. Why, do you ask? Well, There are several reasons.

1. No One in MY Family owns a HDTV
2. The FCC Has plans to make broadcasting all Digital by 2006 or something.
3. I'm perfectly content my my square Tv
4. I consider the increasing emphasis on HDTV's to be a sign of society's rampant martialism (Our TV's have to be bigger, just like our Cars, Houses, etc.)

and above all, i lack any HDTV comparison Shopping Skills. MAtt Wilson once Divulged that HDTV salesmen trick customers into thinking that the Biggest, most expensive sets have the best A/V Quality, but looking at WalMart and Circuit City, they all look the same to me.

I guess it's only a matter of time before i have to cope with my problem.

Which is a good idea, for reasons other than HDTV... but that's another topic. ;)

Except that HDTV isn't really a matter of bigger, per se... better, perhaps, but not bigger. Aspect ratio -- not being "square" in this case -- doesn't really have anything to do with size.

The transition is going to have a lot of annoying bumps, but that's how progress goes. :gir:

HDs are still not widespread. They're still more cash than most people care to blow on a mere TV.

I imagine the 2006 deadline will be extended. And I still want to know why this computer monitor gets BETTER resolution than an HDTV, yet costs a fraction of the money.

Wasn't the original deadline back in 2000?

Wasn't the original deadline back in 2000? Yes, they keep moving it back for some reason. It feels like one of those government/industry secret deals where a few people will walk away with alot of money after everything falls apart. Like busting Ma Bell and deregulating the electricity companies.

AFAIK, the deadline for having digital is at 2008... or at least the last I saw something about it.

I believe the deadline's been pushed back, yes...

All I know is, I'm not spending more than $200 on a new TV set; I'm not spending a fortune on some huge (bigger than 20"-27") set just to see every wrinkle on David Letterman's face (or a computer monitor-resolution level set just to watch the stupid sitcoms/reality shows/cop shows that're all TV shows anymore... let alone "Simpsons" reruns or the news...).

Were not going to get any new HDTVs anytime soon. People have said that the HDs give you the sounds that the show or special is right in your own living room.

The transformation is going very slowly because the cost. I do know that WBNS in Columbus, one of my local stations, started to show HD progamming in 1998 which they pioneered in while SNL is going to be in HD this fall for its 31st season while some others aren't even in HD.

I don't know maybe within the next few years or when my next TV dies, we're probably going to buy HDTV since it would be a waste to buy a regular TV then you can't use it execpt for movies once analog comes to an end.

From what I heard is that if you have cable or satellite or WebTV or other TV service provider, you will be fine. Its everyone with rabbit ears antennas and roof TV antennas (analog) that will have no service. HDTV’s, EDTVs, Plasma, Flat screen, LCD TFT Active Matrix, Projection, CRT, or Flat tube TV makes no difference. If you have a TV service provider, no matter what TV you have (as long you have a Set top box) you will be fine.

I don't like how the real world looks, I prefer those fake NTSC colors.
