This is "Thoroughly Modern League," Pete. Aquaman is his modern version, complete with hook, hair, and "I'm Too Sexy For Animation" attitude. The other changes are mainly cosmetic, to give it more of a unique look. As for continuities, I have no idea. It's been posted all over the place, but (and you can ask anyone on this board) since when have I paid attention? :D

It's all the same universe; but, in true comic book fashion, time means nothing.

time means nothing?
uhh no

time obviously means something in this universe

Legacy has happened-- the generals comments in SO

Some of the characters -- actually all but WW and MM have met each other before-

some time has passed -- enough for the batman to build a secret space station and redesign his costume

the only REAL oddity to the continuity is Kyle, but im sure that will be resolved at some point

There's already a number of threads going about this, but I'll say it in here too. Timm and company have said that they're not worrying about continuity. There are going to be things that do stay in continuity with the various previous shows, but there are going to be other things that will conflict with them as well. Timm said in his interview that the Kyle thing doesn't necesarily fit in with the Superman animated show continuity, and it sounds like they're not really going to worry about it - just assume they're alternate timelines/universes, or that the GL episode of Superman didn't happen.

I think the general's comment is pretty ambiguous. He does not allude to a specific incident, or even allude that there was any specific incident. But you can take it either way, and I think that's what Timm and company were trying to do. If you want JL in the same continuity, the general's reference sounds like an allusion to "Legacy." If not, then you can treat as a stand-alone comment.

Actually, in our exclusive interview with Timm, he said that in the original script, the general went farther in singling Superman out as a direct reference to "Legacy." But he didn't want to confuse people who didn't see that episode, so it was taken out.

I always think this topic is silly. If you want to believe that the series are connected, then do so. If you don't think they should be connected, then consider them seperate. Same goes for Batman Beyond and whether that is the "true" future or not. Just enjoy the series and don't worry about continuity, the older series will always be there unchanged :) .

See, thats an extremely good point and one of the reasons I actually prefer the animated series to the way the mainstream comics are done.

You can have stories forever and ever of Batman in his prime or with the Gotham Knights and still have Batman Beyond with which to say that yes he did get older and this is what happened to him.

Or not.

Its a take it or leave it kind of thing. I can have Superman TAS as the story of Superman but I don't have to accept "The Call" as how he ended up if I dont want to.

The reason this works is because you dont have one *replacing* the other and being the new established law. You dont have to have old Bruce Wayne at the sacrifice of young Bruce Wayne.

With the seperate series you can have both and you can link them or not link them or just link the parts you like. (I'm ok with BB as the future of Batman but I obviously have mixed feelings about "The Call")

With Justice League I love the show but I havent seen enough episodes to decide if I want to link it or not. Hell you coukd even consider it the point where things fork and have BB as one path and JL as the other.

I agree with Bruce Timms assesment that continuity is a fluid thing. I'm much more intrested in a good superhero story than I am being able to mark things on a fold-out time line map to earn a Linear Man badge (yes that was a Zero Hour jab).

Frankly I'm just glad that there *is* good stuff out there involving these characters and I only wish the level of quality these shows have existed in the current comics.
