It would be cool if CN could create a block for 12-17 year olds, but that will never happen.

True true. But as it is they get amazing 12-17 ratings from many shows on Adult Swim and a few on Toonami and obviously DBZ uncut.

A little clarification (not sass)

When you are already hitting almost every other demographic, it's too much work to target the 12-17 demo. That demo is the most fickle one out there and pretty much the hardest to target compared to the others. Thus, no part of CN directly targets it, instead it kind of falls in with Adult Swim as bonus ratings (or sometimes Toonami).

It's not that case at all. Relocating a few shows could make a great 12-17 block. Or dare I say... picking up new ones on the cheap. As fickle as that demo is said to be... they love Adult Swim and a few shows on CN. Proving that the demo isn't impossible to get. Infact CN practically has to push them away. So if they wanted to (and I don't believe they do) they could make a 12-17 block easily.

And what's this LFV. The press releases for Toonami show what the 6-11 kids and boys ratings are but in general they say the demo is 9-14/12-17.

It would be nice if CN did, and to a certain extent they do, in the Friday night block. If they put in Cow and Chicken, and it wasn't on so late at night, and I actually lived in America, then I'd watch it. Shows like Jack, Gundam, and possibly Megas would attract the teens. Johnny Bravo would certainly, and if they added Sheep and Cow and Chicken, they could have been onto a real winner, if they'd actually put it somewhere in the day.

Although the "Create your own block" thread, mine and Toonmaster's PrimeTime blocks could easily suit the 12-17 demographic. It's just a shame that Turner don't implement it in.

Bringing Megas back with new episodes would be a step in the right direction of the 12-17 demographic. Everyone I know or spoke too has loved this show.

Why must I always dig that press release up?

Sigh... I'll go get it.

EDIT:

Well this is funny... This one lists YOU as the source.

I guess this doesn't say 12-17 specifically but it does say "teens". Which translates to 12-17 in most cases. But at the same time 6-11 isn't right besides 9-11 part according to most press releases but since CN likes to mention the 6-11 ratings when they're good they do it as well as the 9-14 but there have been a few press releases devoid of 6-11 ratings.

That was in April 04, and I don't think there's been a press-release since then detailing 12-17 demographics.

As for whether there'll be a 12-17 demographic block, hard to say. According to the Mo Willems article, AOL Time Warner don't want shows for ages between 11-17, as they only want shows for 10-year-olds and 18-year-olds. But, in time, I hope that they'll come to realise what a mistake that is and fit something in... I don't want to create a show for a 10 year-old! (I would like to do one for an 18 year old though... he he...)

EDIT: Teens are 14 year olds according to CN. Officially, no one watches CN between 15-17, as they have no statistics (bar that one last year) to prove so.

http://toonamiinfolink.com/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=763I don't even remember that PR or being the source of it. Yet, I thank them for the credit.

Wow. 172,000? That's terrible.

I don't understand what would be different in a 12 to 17 block that isn't already in a 9-14 block. They mostly seem to me to be labled around what the ratings allow them to watch.
2-11, visual humor and that I/E stuff.
9-14, visual humor, more verbal humor, sarcasm, bloodless action.
over 14 starts the adult swim shows and anime, suggestive scenes and dialog, some profanity violence and death.

The next step up would seem to be 18 where they could go to adult shows, except they really can't show that on TV at any time of night.

Are my asumptions wrong?

For a comedic show, it probably would be a cross between Billy and Mandy, and something in Adult Swim. It would have references that only 14+ people would understand, and a dryer, more subtle humour, plenty of sarcasm used intentionally... and something for the MTV generation.

For an action show: Samurai Jack. That fits the 12-17 demo perfectly, and if anything can imitate it's style of music and visuality and plot successfully, then it would work. Possibly a bit more gore and blood, but that's all it would really need extra. Something with a compelling plot that wouldn't need to revert to a cartoony filler episode to bring in the ratings.
