My sister's shopping alomst as I type and she's going to get a couple PC dance pads for herself and her husband and perhaps an actual game to go with them? I've looked for her and haven't found any PC DDR ports, and I'm having trouble finding knockoffs too. I heard that the most well-known downloadable version of DDR sucks (it's mistimed)...any advice? No, getting a console isn't an option, as they really aren't gamers, they just want a fun exercize tool. Any advice would be much appreciated!
there arent any dancing games for pc which is why they have a dancing platform for pc...

I just downloaded Stepmania (http://www.stepmania) and bought one of those PS2-USB converters for my dancepad. I haven't had any problems with either. As for it being mistimed, I'd say that has more to do with some of the user-created files than it does the actual program. Most of them seem completely fine to me.

Totally Legally? Pump It Up for the PC. Pretty fun game, though the music selection isn't that wide. Comes with the pad, and it's a pretty good pad. I'm pretty sure even with the release of Pump It Up for consoles, the PC version can still be found somewhere.
QuasiLegally/SemiPiracy? Stepmania. The game itself is legal, but the ports of routines from various dance games without royalties is illegal. The fan made content gets to be an even grayer thing cause while the dance moves are ok, the music often is copyrighted, so unless you own your own paid for copy of the song, it'd be illegal, and even then, it's really in a hard to pin area.
