View Full Version : What is going on with Max Steel?

Let me start by saying that I don't like Max Steel. Not in any way shape or form. Why? Well that's another topic.

After reading this news at The World's Finest News... (sorry) Headlines (http://wf.toonzone.net/wfnews/), and if you don't know where it is by now than shame on you! Anywho, after reading this I thought I might bring it up here in case someone missed it back at The World's Finest Headlines (http://wf.toonzone.net/wfnews/).

Now as most of us know Max Steel avoids good ratings like to plague, so kidsWB wants to do the show in a traditional 2D cel ((edited for Hatter :p)) format to save money. This does not please Sony Pictures Family Entertainment & Mattel who produce and like the show just the way it is. Said owners/producers turnaround to Cartoon Network and CN then orders 9 new CGI episodes which it plans to run in the mornings in September while kidsWB will air the 13 cell done episodes that they've ordered.

Now I'm left to wonder what this will do. Is CN looking to build a morning action block, or is the network looking to return Toonami to Saturday mornings again ? And does this make Max Steel and even more likely to become a part of the afternoon edition of Toonami (something I really don't want to see)?

Nitpick: The term is cel animation, not "cell." It's short for celuloid, the transparent sheets the animation is drawn on.

Very, very weird. Just goes to show you the length some people will go to sell toys. Still, even though this doesn't indicate more synergy between KWB and CN, this doesn't bode well for Toonami.

I'm hoping more and more a Toonami channel becomes a possibility. There has been rumblings about it, and it's just be nice. Seeing Toonami be treated so horribly on it's native ground is just bad...

I totally agree w/ you. That is gonna be so weird. I tell ya, w/o the cool 3D graphics, that show will have nothing. I kinda hope that at least the 2D animation is good, but i also kinda hope that it sucks hard. Maybe that'd teach the suits something...

Nah, that'd mean you have something to learn w/ :)

The show was pretty one-note to begin with. A poor Batman Beyond rip off which will, unfairly, survive. I'll will admit they do a good job on some of the fight scenes. You can tell the motion capture technology comes into play really well in those scenes.

Interesting. IMO Max Steel would bode alot better without the cheesy CGI affects. However, this growing skirmish between the two sides will make for interesting stuff.

9 CGI episodes will air on CARTOON NETWORK, and 13 2-D episodes will air on KIDS'WB!

The 2D episodes will NOT air on kids' WB! I spoke with Jeff over at CNX and told me he misinterpetated that the Kidscreen article (which is the basis for the Max news.) INSTEAD of 2D episodes on kids' WB!, 9 new 3D episodes will air on Cartoon Network. The 2D series was announced BEFORE a deal was reached with Cartoon Network. So, in fact, the news page is incorrect. Not that I'm trying to nitpick, but it did not say anywhere in kidscreen that Max will air the 3D series in addition to the 2D series. There will ONLY be a 3D series. Toonzone.net has the specific part pertaining to Max Steel in the news story, "2D..." which is available in the Toonzone news section.

I'm not trying to be mean, that's not my intention, but the whole reason for Max Steel moving to CN was because Mattel and SFE were pissed at kids' WB! for the change in animation from 3D to 2D. Mattel thought it would kill the toyline. So, after Kids' WB! announced the 13 2D episodes, Mattel/SFE pitched the show to Cartoon Network, who agreed to pick it up. After this, the Kids' WB! episode 2D series was probably scrapped in favor of the 3D series airing on CN.

Let's just think about this guys: If Mattel and SFE were pissed about the change to 2D, why would they want the 2D series to air on Kids' WB!, when the series instead will have new 3D episodes on Cartoon network?

Hope this clears things up guys! :)

Ah, okay. I certainly don't blame them for being pissed... having to change their entire style of animation on an exec's whim is asking a bit much. So, if they were able to get a good deal at CN, more power to them.

Never been fond of their CGI style myself, though...

I also saw a comment from Jeff over at the CNX boards where he brought up a good point. By getting on good terms with Sony through Max Steel, CN may be able to pickup more of the Sony library which includes Men in Black, Jackie Chan (though I doubt kidsWB would give it up), Roughnecks, Heavy Gear (partnered with Mainframe who CN already has a decent relationship with) I believe Big Guy & Rusty, Godzilla: TAS and some other shows that would definitely fit in on CN.

Putting up with Max Steel, if it leads to some of Sony's better properties on CN, wouldn't be the worst thing in the world.

Ah! Now that would be a shrewd move, especially since Sony's current outlet for their re-run shows, Fox Family, is going kaput.

I think that would greatly enchanxce the channel if we got all those Sony shows. FOX FAMILY has become a joke, and I wouldn't be suprised to see Time-Warner pick it up, and either radically change it, or axe it all togethor. It'd be nice to see all 40 Godzilla episodes, and Big Guy.

This has to got to be a new record for thread necromancy, 5 YEARS (and 21 days).

As much as we enjoy your enthusiam (my spelling sucks), AND the fact you went and found a thread about a show you like rather than clutter up the board with new threads about the same show......except in this case.

Since this is a thread about Max Steel's animation style from 5 years ago, rather than an all-purpose thread about the show, ironically, in this case, it would actually be better to actually start a new thread about Max Steel in general.

PLEASE don't let this one experience ruin Toonzone for you, we all mistakes at first ( Although I usually make a 2-3 mistakes a year over stuff I should've learned from my first year here, or its over a new rule change, or I go overboard when it comes to some subjects, etc  )

Well true! Ok then well I think Max Steel's Season 1's anamation was bad and season 2's was a hole lot better than the 1'st cause the first made them look like rubber toys!!

How far did that ever get? As everyone knows by now, a 2-D Max Steel never aired...

Max Steel? God, I only saw bits of the show and a LOT of those toy commercials where Max shows off his gear whenever his peanut brained chief tells him to.

I thought it was trying to be a ripoff of Action Man...or was it the other way around?
