Cromartie High School. That was the first title I thought of when I read that part. But for what it's worth, there's a decent, but fairly non-descript woman that gets mugged in one of the eps (the first ep with Kamiyama on Mechazawa in bike form).

*It's either set in an altered past (altered so there are robots, of course) or a post-apocalypic future (in which there are robots, of course).
*There's a female character who has a giant piece of weaponry she can use to take down a male character in a split second if he says anything even slightly pervy. This only works against people on the same side as her, though. If a villain shows up, she forgets about the weapon entirely and is completely useless.
*Villain: We are actually a lot alike blah blah blah. Hero: No way! *defeats villain*
*Certain characters having gigantic blind spots for strange occurrences.
*Completely impractical outfits, often with unnecessary amounts of decoration / accessories.
*Character who is always hungry.
*Character who claims to care about nothing but money, but actually has a heart of gold.

actually, in most cases its for victory and not peace.

another one that not many animes use and when they do not that often (but that more animes should use) is the cat ears/tail that the character sometimes gets when they're being playful.

I don't know much about anime, but I'll throw these in anyway:

-The broody loner guy who used to be evil then became a friend.

-A young boy who's on a quest to become something (King of the Pirates, Beyblade champion, Pokemon master, Shaman King, etc).

-Some sort of tournament.

-Ineffective yet somewhat humorous villian characters that show up mainly to annoy the protagonists.

-Female characters that are often hard to deal with (Misty from Pokemon, Anna from Shaman King, etc).

-For anime mainly from the '70s: A leader, a rebel, a big guy, a little guy, and a girl.

[Hakuhatsu]

No female charicter smaller than a B (sometimes C) cup, with one female complaining about how small her breasts are.

Lots of T&A.

Excessive breast jiggling.

A lecherous male charicter.

Drawn out, self-rightious monolouges.

Excessive cuteness, be it the series, one group, one charicter or a pet/maschot... to the point of having the audience go into diabetic shock.

Vague, artistic, esoteric references to eastern and western philosophy (think Oshii).

Long silences.

Bikini girls with machine guns.

Otherwise, I think the others have already pointed out what I (and many others) was thinking.

Surprised nobody has mentioned this yet, but no anime is complete without atleast one flashback in an episode, even if the flashback was to part of the episode that is in progress.

A supervillain who can survive the biggest explosion in the universe, but inevitably dies later on with a puny move.

The main villain having a #2 henchman who's bigger and/or stronger than him.

Kids that are smarter, yet more annoying, than adults.

Missing/dead family members (it's usually the father).

People with voices that sound very disproportionate to their age.

A magical [insert item X] that is powered by emotions or a pure heart (this one makes me gag).

A very old man/woman who knows all the answers to the hero's problems.
