I'm getting my first tattoo next week. :)
I'm excited but also need a bit of help. You see I designed it myself and I want to have " CHRIST LIVES" written in japanese characters written on both sides of a cross.
Thing is I don't know what that looks like, so could someone help me out and show me what "CHRIST LIVES" looks like. I want it written vertically.
Also if you can't help feel free to post any feelings you have about tattoos or talk about tattoos you have. Is It really as addictive as everyone claims?

Religious endorsement is not allowed on this forum, which you should know seeing you've been here for almost four years.

I have a few friends who have several tats and my roommate in particular loves his ink. He just recently went and got his third one done.
I don't know if that counts as addiction but I think once you break down the barrier of "tattoos bad" it makes it easier to accept getting inked multiple times. Where are you getting it done, on your upper arm?

Dude relax. He's asking about a tattoo not prosthetizing.

Why do you want it in Japanese rather than English? I'm not criticising, I'm just curious.

I would so pay/kill/whatever to see a "Pancho Be Blessed" tat on a TZ'er on their person in some capacity. :D
And the general rule of tats is as follows. Getting one makes it easy to get 2. Getting 2 makes it easy to get 20.

Why do you want it in Japanese rather than English? I'm not criticising, I'm just curious. It's going on my back. The few people that see's it will most definetly ask me what it means and thus it's about the same thing as getting it in english only cooler looking.

Nah. After much thought I decided I wanted it on my back. My right shoulder blade to be exact. I always thought that looked a lot better than arm tats, plus if I find myself regretting it , Its a lot easier to ignore.:p Ha. Ha. Ha.

My advice? Don't get a tattoo, you'll regret it in about 15 years.

Not this one, and not on my back.

Not this one, and not on my back.Funny thing, Tatoos are not endorsed by Catholosism or Christianity...
THEY BE FROWNED UPON! IIRC
Also to appease the Pedro:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v40/00pie/backtattoo.jpg I'm kinda wondering if maybe he confused the frontside with "Paco".
And damn, those quads are huge.

Thats a common misconception. It's not true though.

Thats a common misconception. It's not true though.Yeah but, why get a tattoo in Japanese that has to deal with Christianity which arose in Europe and was led by someone who was initialy of Jewish heritage...it just doesn't work element-wise. Unless ofcourse you're Japanese then it would probably make sense to have that melding of things...
However the kanji crossing over each other in a cross pattern is going to make it look incredibly confusing/sloppy to read...then again not alot of people can read it to begin with...
However there's this whole thing about religous based tattoos and how they essentialy adhere to Pride one of the seven sins. I mean faith is pretty much supposed to be internal, not external. So it would be pretty much be crossing the signifigance out...literaly...
There's also the regular upkeep of a tattoo, which most people who initaly get tatoos don't keep up with. yeah it's all fine in the beginning, but they lose intrest in it and end up not caring...and then regret it. Pretty much the only people who regularly upkeep their tattoos are the ink fiends. And those people are usualy covered in them...
If you let a tattoo got for too long it will turn into a blue/green outline. Not to mention when you're older it's not going to look the same as you did when you first got it.

Hmm unless you have a good reason why not just get a picture of it and hang it on your wall? This way you and everyone else can actualy see it. Also yes everyone I know with a tattoo seem to just keep getting more. And yeah my friend is going to be a priest and he just got one like a month or 2 ago.

Hmm, if you've not had any luck in finding that Kanji, you may want to try posting your request to a tattoo flash board like this one (http://p196.ezboard.com/fbodypiercingtattooingandbodymodificationfrm40) - I've never used that particular board but I've posted to some of the other ones in that same forum and the folks over there seem quite knowledgeable and friendly. Not that ya asked but there's also an interesting "Everything You Ever Wanted to Know and Then Some"-style tattoo FAQ (http://www.cs.uu.nl/wais/html/na-dir/bodyart/tattoo-faq/.html) linked to through bmezine (thought it's not housed at bmezine itself) - part 2 even has an interesting bit on the "Christianity" of tattoos - erm, not being Christian myself I'm not even going to try to evaluate its soundness but there you go nonetheless :)
I don't have any tattoos myself (though I have a couple of piercings and have really had to "force" myself not to let them turn into -many- more!) but I know exactly what I want and where I'd like to get it; it's just a matter of finding just the right design ... only a matter of time, oh yes =) And though this is probably painfully obvious, personally I think tattoos - like just about anything - are great if done for the right reasons. I would think folks who get them just to be trendy or because all their friends are doing it are the ones most likely to regret them 10-20 years down the road; on the other hand, if you genuniely want one because it's important to -you-, then heck, even if 10-20 years down the road you don't still feel the same way about whatever it is you got tattooed on you, you can still look at it as a reminder of the person you were at that particular time - I would think/hope that wouldn't be something to regret!
Errr ... one final comment and then I'll shut up: this has nothing to do with anything, and I can't even explain why, but I absolutely HATE it when people refer to tattoos as their "ink" ... HAAAATE IT!
