...a little bald monk! Is it from DragonballZ, or some other anime I've never heard of?

DR. BELCH
09-12-2001, 03:38 PM
--in his youth, I believe, from Dragonball. He appears in the Z series as an adult. But for the voice and muscles, he actually hasn't changed much in the later series.
D'oh's sig quote is Krillin to Goku after he comments that the boy's head resembles some foodstuff (I forget what offhand). Krillin says the line, then adds, "Right, Master Roshi?" "Nope," the old bugger replies, rubbing his scalp. "I'm naturally bald."
You have to love an old martial arts master who accepts a stack of porno magazines as payment for his services.
Another great exchange: Goku admits that he doesn't know the difference between men and women. "But I can usually figure it out by the sound of their voice."
"In case you're wondering," Krillen says, with a don't-even-try-anything-funny look on his face, "I'm a boy." (He sounds a little girly, but I think in this dub he's voiced by a woman, so....)

My friend came in at my house and tell me to put Johnny Bravo as my alvatar, so I put my alvatar at my own choice...

Whats that, Plank? Plank said that kylewayne owes me a apology for beating me up.

Anyway, how do you like my alvatar, at my own choice?

Woo-hoo! I've gotten one up!

For those who note how odd it looks:
<Useless fact>
NBC introduced their peacock logo in the late-1950's to promote their initiation of color broadcasting (said avatar of mine is what it looked like between the late-50's and mid-70's). Between the late 50's and early 70's, they'd run a brief 10- or 15-second animated bumper at the start of each show that was filmed/broadcast in color, that showed the peacock spreading its feathers (and showing off its multi-colored hues) with a voiceover announcing: "The following program is brought to you in living color, on N B C." (Hence where the Fox sketch comedy show "In Living Color"'s name comes from) RCA, which owned NBC at the time, had a vested interest in promoting color, since they made TV sets (and it was their black-and-white-TV-compatible color broadcasting system that the FCC selected as the U.S. standard, which of course is still used today; the alternative would've been some mechanical doohicky that CBS proposed that wouldn't have been compatible with black and white sets....). One can still see this animated bumper at the start of a few programs being rerun elsewhere (like their 60's "Peter Pan" special), usually on an A&E/AMC rerun....

Said peacock logo changed to the current six-feathered one (after a few short-lived logo changes in the 70's) in 1986 (I recall as a kid seeing some "NBC 60th anniversary special" that, after a self-congratulatory hour, introduced the modern logo....).

Of course, it took quite some time for color TV's to get sold in vast quantities, their being expensive, and it took time for the network's entire lineup to switch over to color (and for their affiliates to get color broadcasting equipment), but the network's whole lineup was all in color by the late 60's.

CBS and ABC had animated opening bumpers as well. CBS' consisting of the "C", "B", and "S" letters dropping down onto the screen and the eye logo sweeping across them changing them into different colors (said bumper could be seen on their "Kids Say the Darndest Things" series a few years ago).

ABC's first regular color broadcast was supposedly "The Jetsons"...

All of said animated opening bumpers (except for ABC's) can be seen here:
http://people.we.mediaone.net/ktedsel/KARD_html/kard4.html (though I think the website got some of its historical facts wrong, it does have Quicktime copies of the bumpers...)

Finally, I note that HDTV doesn't receive the same enthusiasm...I only see CBS running a "This presentation in HDTV" banner at the bottom of the screen at the start of a few shows, while nothing similar for the other networks...not as much vested interest in HDTV, perhaps...

</Useless fact>

This really *was* useless....

Thanks...if there was space to enter it, I'd make the caption read "in *living* color", per NBC's tagline for its color broadcasts, but anyway, I thought it'd make a unique image (vs., uh, weird Japanese animated characters whose jaws disappear when they move their mouths [to quote Sharklady's bit in one fanfic story re: Pokemon] :-)

Hee, hee....are you a fan of the movie Arthur? I love that scene where Arthur says, "I am going to take a bath." and his butler drolly replies, "I will alert the media."

From time to time, when somebody announces they are going to do something utterly normal and uneventful, I will reply with, "I will alert the media." or "I will contact the papers" or some kind of variaration on the theme.

You mean we have to alert the media each time we change our avators? Poit.

And if that's the case, what do I do about the other 6 times I changed my avator?

Okay, I've merged a few threads to form the "Official WBC Avatar Thread," similar to what can be found over at the AniGen board. Basically, to keep this board from filling up with "Check out my new avatar..." we have a thread dedicated strictly for it. So, feel free to post your new avatars, but keep them in this thread please.

Thanks! :)

BTW, as some as you may know, I've gotten a new avatar - it's from "Cowboy Bebop." Although I've never seen it, I'm going to check it out hopefully this weekend. If any of you guys want some cool Adult Swim avatars to use, head over to the Adult Swim forum. There's a thread dedicated just to it. That's where I got mine. :D
