A Parent Trapped!

As Ash and his friends try to protect the baby Lugia "Silver" from Team Rocket's grimey hands, who should appear but Mama Lugia! Unfortunately, Ash botches the protection gig and has to go on a rescue mission, but can he and Richie possibly defeat Butch and Cassidy now that their Pokémon are powered-up?

Comments: For some reason, this Lugia can't speak English. Only roar. I guess that since it didn't get on the big screen, it's not special enough.

A Promise is a Promise

Ash, Misty, Brock, and Ritchie have been captured along with the two Lugia and are being held captive in Team Rocket's underground fortress! Oliver tries to rescue them, but he's going to need some help to do it. When our heroes do get free, though, Butch, Cassidy, and Dr. Nambo show up to stop the gang dead in their tracks! Can our heroes defeat the strange device that uses a Pokémon's anger to make it stronger, and will Lugia ever trust anyone again?

Comments: This is a decent finale, but I can't help thinking that the writers could've done something more with this story. I guess they don't know how to use Lugia...

Throwing in the Noctowl

With all their adventures in the Whirl Islands over with, it's time for Ash to return to Olivine City so he can get his next Gym Badge! However, there aren't any ships or planes heading there at the moment! That's when the come across an old codger and his just-as-old Noctowl. When a major storm comes whirling in, will our heroes be gone with the wind?

Comments: Heaven forbid we actually have GOOD episode before the Gym Battle, but no. That's too much for the Johto staff.

Nerves of Steelix

It's finally time for Ash's Gym Match with Jasmine! True to her style, Jasmine uses only Steel-type Pokémon, which have high Defense. Cyndaquil has the type-advantage and Pikachu is plenty powerful, but can either of them stand up to the awesome power of Onix's evolved form, Steelix!?

Comments: I don't know why people love this battle so much. Personally, I think the only good Gym Battles in Johto were against Falkner, Whitney, and Clair.

NOTES

This season is the 5th American season and covers the end of Johto.
This week we conclude the Lugia arc and have a Gym Battle.
Debuts this week: Steelix.
Like I said last week, this 3-parter would've been better without Oliver.
I also liked the Orange Islands Lugia better, since it tangled with Articuno, Zapdos, and Moltres at the same time and fought better.
Was there any purpose at all in creating this Noctowl episode?
And we get to our first Gym Battle since Master Quest started! Yay!
Right now Ash's team is: Pikachu, Bulbasaur, Bayleef, Cyndaquil, Totodile, and Noctowl
Misty's team is: Staryu, Goldeen, Psyduck, Togepi, Poliwhirl, and Corsola
Brock's team is: Onix, Geodude, Crobat, and Pineco
Check out the new episodes of Pokémon Advanced Challenge airing this month in the Anime Forum Talkback (http://forums.toonzone.net/showthread.php?p=1815498).

Was it just me, or was Crobat blue in tonight's episode? Seems the animators forgot Golbat evolved...

And remember, you ARE allowed to comment on these episodes if you've seen them already, whether it's by TV or DVD or otherwise...

Well, all of you people who refuse to watch due to the cut prologue can start to relax a bit. They played the prologue to tonight's (technically, last night's) episode. Here's hoping they do it all week.

Also, I have a big qualm about this episode. True, you could place this problem in a good 70% of the episodes, but they didn't air tonight.

Now, Houndour, Hitmontop, and Electabuzz are all really strong due to the machine, right? And time is of the essence, meaning the gang needs to hurry up before the bad guys win. So how come they don't just call out every one of their Pokémon and bum rush Team Rocket? While Electabuzz is powerful, I doubt it could handle Chikorita, Geodude, Crobat, both Pikachus, Cyndaquil, Pupitar, Charmeleon, Onix, etc. all at once.

Speaking of which, anybody feel sorry for those three Pokémon? They're forced to get ultra-angry, which presumably involves pain, and as soon as they come back to normal and are wondering what's going on, they're hit with a mega-powerful Thunderbolt attack.

They actually played the part before the opening?

I hope that wasn't a one-time thing, and they continue doing it for the rest of the season.

How did they do it? Do they play one of those CN eyecatches before they go to the piece before the opening?

How did they do it? Do they play one of those CN eyecatches before they go to the piece before the opening? No, it played as normal. The different-from-Kids-WB! commercials breaks are the same, though.

Good news, hopefully this wasn't just because it was part of the Lugia arc.

Do they still cut off the last 3 seconds of every episode when "To be continued" goes on the screen?

CN used to do that when they aired the Kanto eps, they may not do that anymore.

And since I'm curious, did they play the bit before the opening again today? Or did they skip it again?

And since I'm curious, did they play the bit before the opening again today? Or did they skip it again?Yep. Now Dogasu and Rabi can watch the episodes. ^_^

I would have watched it tonight if I wasn't out of town visiting my family before I go back to college.

I did, however, get to catch some of the Noctowl episode last night. I was pretty much appalled at the anime's complete and utter disregard for the laws of physics when Satoshi is climbing around on top of that airplane. I mean, was it just me, or did Satoshi just step out of the plane and pull a Spider-Man, climbing up the side of a slick aircraft without any trouble at all? God.

I mean, was it just me, or did Satoshi just step out of the plane and pull a Spider-Man, climbing up the side of a slick aircraft without any trouble at all? God.Considering he got crushed with a chandileer without a scratch, has been Thunderbolted 50,000 times, and has died twice already, I don't think the rules of physics apply.

Especially game physics, since there's no way a Cyndaquil could every beat a Steelix in the games unless either Cyndaquil was 30+ levels higher, or Steelix is just plain unlucky.

And this episode is pretty much the only time anyone will ever say Magnemite is "awesome," because it, in fact, sucks. Big time.

Also, Ash stupidly falling for Team Rocket's pitiful disguises and schemes is getting old. He should know better than to put his Pikachu on a pedastal in front of a giant Wobuffet that didn't even exist until about 20 minutes beforehand.
