View Full Version : Holiday Avatar Contest

Well, some people have had their seasonal avatars up for about 3 weeks now, so I guess it's pretty obvious. 'Tis the season for the Holiday Avatar Contest! :D

Now, most of you should know the drill by now, but for the benefit of our recent arrivals, I'll recap:

Find, find or create a holiday-themed image and put it up as your avatar. It doesn't have to be connected to your username or anything like that -- just something connected to the holiday season: Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, whatever. We're non-denominational, so all are welcome. Even you Scrooges out there!

Then, to participate in the contest come to this thread and put up a note. If the avatar is obscure, tell us a little about it.

On the 23rd we'll lock the thread; contest is over. At that point anyone on the boards (whether participating in the contest or not) will get to vote on the avatars they liked the best. To do this, send an email here (tzmovieclub@yahoo.com) listing the three posters in this thread who you think have the best avatars:

* Give the person with the best avatar 3 votes.
* Give the person with the second best 2 votes.
* Give the person with the third best 1 vote.

Voting closes on Christmas night itself.

I will then tally up the ballots and on the 26th announce the winners.

NOTE: I will be participating, but since I'm the official score-keeper, I'm going to rule myself ineligible. So don't bother voting for my avatar, folks, it'll just be a wasted vote.

For this to work, you have to leave your avatar UP and UNCHANGED at least until the 25th. Don't change your avatar just because the thread closes; you have to give others a chance to look over your avatar when they go to vote. (In previous contests, I suspect some people lost votes because they changed their avatar too quickly.)

If you have any questions, you can post them to this thread also.

Remember, this contest is entirely voluntary.

Yeah, I'm a little late getting this one started. I've been busy with giving and grading exams, and other chores both at Toon Zone and elsewhere, so the time got away from me.

And I haven't even started my Christmas shopping.

Anyway. So who's the jolly fellow at left? Why, that's St. Nicholas himself, as reproduced as a Greek orthodox icon.

Actually, I think this guy's in charge of the "naughty" list.

What the heck. I guess I'll let people see my crazy creation.

This is a crop from a picture I drew on Illustrator. It's no one specific, just a person I drew. She's decked out in holiday wear, and if you look closely, the background reads "Happy Holidays." I know, I can't draw worth chicken nuggets, but I try :)

Okkay, a holiday avatar contest, and I'm waiting for more people to put Chanuka avatars up so I'll have more competition! :p

Anywho, that over there is Slappy, who's either rumored to be Jewish or *is* Jewish (I was never really sure on that part...). Aaaaaaaand, that's a menorah, that's a dreidyl (so shoot me, I spell it like that!), and those are potato latkes......WITH SOUR CREAM!!! (Geesh, you wouldn't BELIEVE how many people who, after I showed this to them, asked "Are those cookies and spilled milk for Santa?"

Oh wait, I think I remembered it wrong. Never mind.

Here's my entry. I'm Wiccan, and celebrate Yule, the Winter Solstice. If you are wondering what that holiday is about, here's a good site, The Witches' Voice page on Yule/Winter Solstice (http://www.witchvox.com/holidays/yule.html), which has some very informative articles and essays.

I chose the pentagram for my avatar because that is the symbol of the Wiccan religion. I couldn't find anything specifically related to the Winter Solstice to use as an avatar. Besides, there was a Star of Bethelem at the first Christmas - so I think this star is appropriate! :dot:

here's mine..yet another Robin one.. :P

Nass made it for me..took the screen grab...the camera added that light in Robin's Forehead (I Dunno bout you..but I really like that light...) and he even put a hat on him for me...isn't he nice? :)

--is a classic. I'm the first gift given to a lover in "The Twelve Days of Christmas"--the partridge in a pear tree. Just sort of imagine the tree.

Walter is Jewish, I know...and both Slappy and the World's Oldest Woman--two beings older than dirt--use Yiddish expressions from time to time. The Jews are very funny people, with a unique outlook of life born of millennia of suffering, which is why I think so many gravitate towards showbiz....

Here's my entry. I know no one will vote for it. Why you ask? No one here likes Mick Foley. So if you don't want to vote for me, then vote for Calhoun's is better. And by the way......

HAVE A NICE DAY!

OK, here's my submission... A little "Freakazoid" Christmas spirit! Cut me some slack on the drawing; I have a cheap scanner and Freakazoid is hard to draw for me! :o

You like?

Second Christmas avatar from a Jerry Scott cartoon.

Jeremy Duncan walks out of his junk-filled room to give loot to all the Zits fans!

Is it a shock to see Jeremy Duncan in my avatar?

Did any of you realize that new posts are being made to this board approx. every second?! It's like I post a new reply, go back to the board....and there are about three other replies besides mine! Sheeeeeeeeesh! :p

Well, here's mine...another TuffyCatt classic! ;) Anyways, I guess my avatar's pretty self explanatory. I guess there's just one thing left to say: Meowy Christmas and Happy Holidays everyone! :p

Yeah, gotta thank Spandex Wonder--er, sorry, Nightwing--for the avatar. It's moi, sorta...well, my namesake, SilverKnight. >bows< Yup, I'm a dork like that. Sue me.

Okay, finally got a few minutes to talk about mine...

Once again, I'm going with a Warner theme - but this time it's Dot. She's supposed to be a winter angel, bringing snow to people who wish they had some, but hardly ever get any. (Like me! :( ) Just a silly idea I had.

I'm putting up the larger version of this avatar up on my web page later this week (hopefully), so look for it!

Good luck to all, and to all a good contest! :D

Man, Santa hats are really in vogue! I've counted 10 avatars so far with a Santa hat. And that's not including my future one, which is bound to have one.

Well, here's my addition to the Holiday Avatar themed contest. After some very heavy cropping, i bet you couldn't even tell that that's ol' Jack Skelington piloting the sleigh. The red light at the head of the "reindeer" was done by yours truly. :D

Well, my holiday avatar is a real turkey...

The turkey is the traditional dish at Christmas here in the UK, but I gather you Americans see it as more of a Thanks Giving thing. So, do you eat turkey at Christmas too..?

Turkey is always at Thanksgiving and very often with Christmas, but Turkey at Thanksgiving is what you will have 99% of the time since thats the tradition, at Christmas its more like you just have whatever floats your boat (I hate that saying hehe :p) chicken, ham, turkey, or whatever :)

Back to Dredd for me - and his face displays exactly how I feel at the moment - broke, jobless and not fantastically christmasy.

Aside from the hat.

Merry Christmas Creeps.

I know lots of people here don't really like The Zeta Project, but I just had to make a Zee/Ro avatar. :D It's really small and doesn't show a lot of detail, so if you want to see the full picture, it's here (http://www.geocities.com/zeeroshipper/christmasart.gif).

Merry Christmas and Yule, everyone!

all these christmas avatars and no one has a joker one! i'm surprised to say the least. i would have thought someone would pick an avatar from the christmas w/ the joker episode. that would have gotten my vote. oh well, guess i'll wait until next year.

Well, I don't normally post here, but I do have a Christmas avatar! It's Woody Woodpecker from a box containing a film print of the cartune "Ski for Two" (retitled on the box "Woody Plays Santa Claus").

Wow, lotta contestants this time, and some good looking avatars. Gonna be hard to pick 'em.

Okay, the contest is now over, and it's time to vote.

To do so, send an email here (tzmovieclub@yahoo.com) listing the three posters in this thread who you think have the best avatars:

* Give the person with the best avatar 3 votes.
* Give the person with the second best 2 votes.

Voting closes the night of Christmas, December 25. I'll count up the results and post them on the 26th.
