But I do want to know what colleges and scholorships you have been aiming for!

Now to only find a way to pay for it!

Congrats Duncan! Gonna be the next Bruce Timm? ;)

I got my acceptance a few years ago as well. And now I'm a junior. Man time passes quick. It's kinda scary.

I graduated from college last Saturday. Seven days ago, I officially earned a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering witha minor in Management & Production from the University of Texas at Austin. :D

It took 5 years, a LOT of work, and giving up a lot of parties and trips and free spending of money. :( Only time will tell if it was worth it.

Whoa! Congrats to squall and Duncanzits! That's good news to hear from both of you!

I have another semester to go. Then I gotta figure out what to do with myself. :p

Yep. Got my acceptance letter, attended the college for 4 years, graduated, then got another acceptance letter and am graduating this semester with my masters! ;)

Well I got my letter of acceptance three years ago, so technically I'm a junior. However, at the moment I have no clue as to how much longer it's going to take to finish. Probably another two years.

Thank God I'm now on winter break! WOO! And back home (just got in this afternoon) mooching on my parents. :D

Blee, I got accepted almost three years ago myself (now a junior) and it looks like I'll have another two years left, as well. Ugh.

I got accepted a while back...was very depressed @ school, didn't goto class...flunked out. I currently have a GPA of about 1. I'm looking into starting over, and going back to school next fall.

Sorry to hear that, naraht. :(

Anyway mostly good news all around with people about to graduate and all. For a while I thought I was too old to be on these boards, but it seems a lot of posters are in college!

I'm sure there's a number of us who are OUT of college too! I got my acceptance letter to Virginia Tech back in 1996 I think. I've been out close to two years now doing Web Design & Development. God I love having money.

Grrrrr.....

yeah, going to college has it's benefits...like not having to work for $6.25 an hour.

in other news...I hate this keyboard, how the hell do the news peoples type on this...(I'm hanging out in the newsroom, cause it isn't as cold. Hour long, uninterupted church feeds are phun!)

Congratulations, duncanzits, squall and Clayface.

I'm only a junior in high school so I haven't applied to any colleges yet, but the seniors are getting their acceptance letters. Two seniors have been accepted to Princeton. We sang "Happy Princeton" (think "Happy Birthday") at a pep rally. The next day, the President of the school went on the intercom and was all choked up when she complimented us on the song.

naraht, things will get better. they have to.

Nein, here, we don't get our acceptance letters until March/April-ish. They have to see our midterm marks first (After the January exam).

I got "conditional acceptance" letters from U of Alberta, U of British Columbia, and Simon Frasier University though. All they need to confirm my admission are my marks ;)

"Here" by the way would be Ontario, Canada. Home of the infamous "Grade 13". Ergh. Anywhere else I would be in first-year university. Bah, I'm not complaining, university terrifies me.

Glad to hear the good college news! I got my college acceptance letter... er... nine years ago. Wow, I'm an old fart. And, with Clayface graduating, I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only person who was silly enough to get an M.A.! And my current job doesn't require a master's at all! Woo hoo!

Then again, Maxie's in college... as a professor. So I'm sure he outclasses us both!

Congrats to all on getting into college.

Me, I've been trying to get a full-time, tenure track job teaching for 5 years now, and have pretty much given up. Few things more dispiriting than sending out 40+ application letters a year and getting back 40+ "bend over while we give you the bad news" responses.

Actually, mine is an MS. I was in the PhD program, but decided the PhD wasn't worth getting - I'm not staying in acedamia, and the type of career I want can be attained with just the MS. Getting the MS was definitely worth it for me - it raised my starting salary by about $20k from what I would have had with just the BS!

In fact, you guys probably won't see me around here for a good chunk of January. I got a job out in the DC/Baltimore area, and will be moving out there next month sometime. It will be a while for me to get settled and get an internet connection set up, so I'll probably be gone for a while.

Aha, gotcha. I was actually in the same situation... I originally thought that I wanted to get a Ph.D. and teach college, but after getting my M.A., I was a wee bit burnt out. So I figure I'd give journalism a try, and I'm loving it. And I'm glad to hear you got a job already!

Maxie: you're not in tenure-track? Ouch... I'd heard rumors that many colleges were trying to move away from the concept of tenure, and I was wondering how true that was. The president of the University of Central Arkansas has repeatedly screwed people out of tenure, so it's not just you.

Then again, the same President was so unpopular that he was finally asked to leave, so there's hope...

The same thing happened to a friend of mine. He's a really smart guy, but he tried to take on too much his freshman year at college got stressed out and wound up with horrible grades. I was really sad for him. But, I'm sure things will work out ok. That reminds me. I should give him a call.

I graduated highschool in 2000 and have not applied to any colleges. I moved to Hollywood and got a job at a grocey store instead, no joke. All the guys around my age there are going to college. I just don't want to. Lots of people tell me I should but... I don't want to do it. I'm working on my writing instead; Writing screenplays. I'm hoping to sell one and eventually become a writer/director. Animated films of course.

That's what I really want to do. And I don't need a degree to do it (most screenwriters are self-taught.) If I wanted to be a doctor or an engineer, sure, college.

Besides, I'm not even 19 yet. I can always go to college later.

P.S.

To any impressionable young people out there, don't use me as a role-model. I am weird. I repeat; WEIRD. That is all.

That's terrific news Duncanzits, Congratulations.

I also got my acceptance letter earlier this week too.
I'm going to be attending New York University next semester.
and my parents are really proud of me.

I think I'm going to be majoring in Marketing and minor in Italian and linguistics, which will come in handy because I'm planning to go to Italy one day and when like really cute Italian guys especially the ones with those totally cute accents talk to me, I would know what they're saying.

God, I can't believe I'm going to be a college girl next year, how time files.
And better yet I'm going to be living in New York.
New York's like one of the best places to shop, they got great trendy places like Soho, the Village and fifth Ave. to name a few.

I'm like totally going to transform my style to a totally chic new yorker look and according to Cosmo girl magazine it says that you can look sophisticated and sexy and also be a good smart college student. it's like totally kewl to be sexy and smart.

But, My best friend Maria who also appiled for NYU didn't get her acceptance letter yet, I'm so hoping that she gets in too.
I really do hope she gets in, so we both can be attending the same school and also her boyfriend of 2 years is in NYU too and he's a TKE ( Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity ) he's apart of the Tau Alpha Chapter. Some Frat parties are really fun .

And like, there's so many things you can apply for to help with the tution too.
Like financial aids, grants, scholarships, student loans and even get work studies.
But the thing that sucks is that my guidance counselor said it's usless for me to apply for financial aid cause both of my parents make too much money, so I'm not qualified, but I think I can go for work studies.

Well, Duncanzits your going to be a college boy next year and a whole new chapter of your life awaits you. Congratulations!

Merry Christmas and have a happy New Years everyone
Hugs and sweet kisses too.

Hey NMF, how do you like Hollywood? See a lot of movie stars? Or is it more normal than we'd expect?

NewMaxFranklin

I miss Hawaii (my home town) a lot. The people are pretty fake here. And there are a lot of homeless people and weirdo's, which I'm not used to. The people here are always acting like they're cool by virtue of living in Hollywood. It's an odd and uncomfortable place.

The store I work in has a lot of repeat celebritiy business. Kevin Spacey comes in frequently, which is cool, since I'm a fan. But, he rushes around and seems uncomfortable to be in public. Kelly Lynch, Christina Richi, Allesandro Nivola (young guy in Jurassic park 3. Castor Troy's brother in Face/Off) and Rosilyn Sanchez, from Rush Hour 2, are regulars.

I heard Zhang Ziyi was in there, but I didn't see her.

Others:
No Doubt band members
Tom Sizemore (spell?)
Giovanni Ribissi
Milla Jovovitch
Jennifer Aniston

There are others I can't remember right now. Plus a lot of actors and models I recognise but couldn't name.

The novelty has worn off for me, really. They're just people.

Pretty much all the steretypes of Hollywood are true. Eveyone's on their cell-phone, drinking foamy coffee, wearing sun glasses, etc. As soon as I make some business connections I'm moving the hell out of here.

Of all the places I've visited this has to be one of the worst.

P.S

I live very close to two huge Scientology hives. I can see the Hollywood sign from my street. Hollywood Blvd is NOT worth seeing.

Good points:
Tai food
The subway system
movie theatres
Lots of cops, all over the place, all the time. (They're jerks, though. I speak from experience.)

My theory is rather like studies that say children who live in dirty, germy households have stronger immune systems that those who live in antiseptic ones--their immune systems get more practice and grow stronger. So maybe all that cold strengthens the brain, increases blood flow. Yes, lame-donkey theory, I know...but.....

Sold my soul to academia in 1993. 2.5 years of community college, 3 years at a University, hold degrees in psychology and English. Yet I'm still single, still live at home with my family and can't sell one manuscript. Don't get it.

Hehehe, join the military! :D That's what I did! well, i joined the ROTC program first, ended up loving it, and applied for a scholarship for the Army Reserves. of course, the military science professers ARE recruiters so they want to contract as many cadets as possible. As a freshman join the ROTC program at your school if they have any ^_^ of course, the military's not for everyone, but it sure is a good way to get through college! :p
