View Full Version : Toon Zone Talkback - Disney Closes Australia Studio
This is the talkback thread for Disney Closes Australia Studio (http://news.toonzone.net/article.php?ID=4773).
Well, if all they were doing was Cinderella 3 I can't say I'm that torn up. Though it sucks that the animators are out of work.
Disney needs to start contracting Japanese studios for their 2-D properties. I want to see a new Fantasia film with segments from Studio 4C, Kawamori Shoji and Gainax.

This looks like the last nail in the Disney Animation coffin. The austrailia team was actually pretty talented. I mean, Return to Neverland was not a bad movie. If only they were given the chance to do something original.

Well this sucks. Walt Disney Australia was THE best Disney TV studio and had a hand in plenty of the feature and direct-to-video films as well. I'm bummed.

This sucks, I thought Disney said they'd keep the Austrailia one open forever, I thought a little bit ago, Eisner said they were going to try to do some "ambitious 2-D DTV" features. Guess not....this....sucks:shrug:

I think Michael Eisner is going way too far, I can't wait for him to leave Disney since his contract is going to expire.

First Orlando, now Australia? When are they going to learn that making cartoons outside of Burbank actually makes more sense? It's cheaper and the animation teams can to just as good of a job.

That is really sad indeed. They did make some pretty cool features. :crying:

CURSE YOU EISNER!!!!
Now what animation studio is going to do my fantasy Disney feature? I don't want to end up making it computer animated.

How is this Eisner's fault, Believe it or not, he was one who was keen on keeping the Austrailia studio open.

But he closes it anyway and Philo & Gunge, what was your Fantasy Disney feature?

Where in that article did it say Eisner closed it himself personally. I am sick of people who know nothing of Disney's situation & just feel the need to blame some random person, with their "DEATH TO EIZNERR!!!111"

Aw great not another one. That really sucks. And man I cannot believe that they were actually doing a cinderella 3. So is Burbank the only one now?

Unsurprisingly I'm not shocked. Mortified to no end, of course, but not shocked.
And now some musing on my part (strictly what i think)
Given the direction that the animation industry is currently heading IMHO, Something tells me that History's Going to end up repeating itself (The 1970's in Particular). But will Disney be able to spark another Renissance, or will it be done by an independent, Creator-driven CGI/Flash studio? To me, things look grim.

Why do they have to shut it down? They're animation is better than the other studios like Toon City (blech)!

I don't things will ever revert themselves back into such a pitiful hole as animation was in the 70's, I don't know if Disney can cause something new and fresh to happen again, some of there future projects sound promising. But there blatant disregard for 2D animation is both annoying and frustrating to me.
I fear that I'll never be able to see another 2D animated movie ever again at times, and to me that's really unsettling. The creator of Lilo & Stitch who was pressured from making American Dog from 2D film to a full 3D film because they were complaining about how hard it is to intergrade 2D and 3D, and that's a bunch of crap. I mean yeah it's a tough process but they've done it tons of times before it's not like unexplored territory or anything.
CGI is a good medium, but it shouldn't be the only medium, and that's what makes the industry so screwed up at the moment.
careful guys, less you encure the wrath of the mods...
just wait it out...

Well, if people went to see Disney's (and Dreamworks) recent 2D movies during their theatrical run, studios wouldn't be discouraged in making them.

Well, if people went to see Disney's (and Dreamworks) recent 2D movies during their theatrical run, studios wouldn't be discouraged in making them. The problem is, none of the last 2D movies by either studio were any good really, Lilo & Stitch was the last really good 2D movie Disney had made in my opinion; and I never cared for any of Dreamwork's stuff.
Since the writing in 2D movies had become pretty lame, people just started to pre-judge that all 2D animated movies were gonna be boring and lame.
While CGI movies were in higher quality, not because there 3D, just beause they hd better writing and more impressive visuals. So people just think 3D is better for the most part.

You know I think Disney should get off their butts and work on a 2D film.

Off-Topic: You guys know we're not supposed to talk about you-know-who. Recheck the Disney Forum rules, please. And keep the discussion civil.
On-Topic: Since I'm not versed in what the Australia studio has done good (I'm unfamiliar with things on the studio side)...
1) Can anyone provide examples of their most famous works for Disney?
2) Excluding the main studio at Burbank, how many Disney Studios does that now leave?

Of topic I know: But I'm sorry but that rule is just so annoying and may I say a little stupid. I don't think there should be any bash Eisner topics but we can't even mention him is or say we disagree with what he's doing, maybe I'll just leave it at that.

What kind of rule is that?

Places like Cuckoos Nest Studio at Wang Film Productions (http://www.wangfilm.com/) in Taipei, Studio Fuga in Tokyo and Toon City Animation in Manila.
According to Jim Hill, Disney has decided to ride the bandwagon for outsourcing jobs to Asian countries...

They've been using Toon City for quite some time. Credits include House of Mouse and Lilo and Stitch: the Series.

Can't we wait and see what their post-Dinosaur CGI movies will look like before we decide that they didn't involve Disney "getting off their butts"?

I agree. Everything here is civil and this is pretty important news. I think we should be allowed to say what we want without fear of this thread being closed just because a few people mention Michael Eisner.
