Bash Business
July 21, 2005
SmackDown! will be in Baltimore this week as The Great American Bash inches closer.
In what is promising to be a thrilling cruiserweight confrontation, Super Crazy of the Mexicools will square off against Rey Mysterio Thursday night on SmackDown!
Meanwhile, will Mysterio respond to the actions of Eddie Guerrero last week?
And surely Booker T has unfinished business with Christian after Captain Charisma used some pre-match cheap shots to defeat him last week.
Both World Heavyweight Champion Batista and JBL have drawn their battle lines the last two weeks as the Superstars prepare for their highly-anticipated match at The Great American Bash. Apparently, however, JBL feels like the match is already won. Before he even gets in the ring with Batista at The Great American Bash, JBL plans on giving his victory speech this Thursday in SmackDown!
Don’t miss SmackDown! on UPN (8/7) CT.

I made special effort to pay attention and Hassan was on the opening twice, once with Daivari near the beginning and then a close-up towards the end.

Super Crazy does some very good stuff, but he needs to be more consistent. There were some great moments in his match, but a lot of it was plodding.
I made special effort to pay attention and Hassan was on the opening twice, once with Daivari near the beginning and then a close-up towards the end. They might as well leave them in the intro until the PPV match. Just so long as they don't actually have them in the show. I mean, I'm sure this thing with UPN isn't like the thing with the World Wildlife Fund, where they have to remove all evidence the WWF logo ever existed... they just have to cease all angles with Hassan.

Of course Hassan is on the intro. Do you really think the WWE would delete his character from the opening when he does have a match with Undertaker coming up on Sunday. The thing is the WWE has said they don't know if Hassan will remain on board after Sunday because of his character. Therefore, if he was fired, he would be removed from the intro next week, but as long as he still has a job, he will be on the intro. He may just not appear on Smackdown! and be banished to Velocity.

Mysterio-Crazy was a bit disappointing. It could've been better. But Eddie Guerrero was awesome doing commentary. He is an amazing actor.
I'm still not sold on Heiderenich as Animal's new tag partner. They're overdoing it a little. Also, since when is Heidernich the voice of reason?
Benoit/Eddie was awesome. Way better than One Night Stand. Sadly no mention of the gem known as Benoit/Regal from Velocity. http://67.18.37.14/html/emoticons/sad.gif
Candice Michelle has to be the worst talker in the history of the WWE. Very annoying voice.
I admit the JBL history videos were a bit funny.
JBL went shopping the same place as Apollo Creed. I would've rather heard Carl Weathers talk about some of his Hollywood roles ( http://67.18.37.14/html/emoticons/wink.gif) more than JBL's latest rant.
I like how Batista said he can't view JBL seriously because of that outfit, yet he wore the same outfit at the very end. http://67.18.37.14/html/emoticons/laugh.gif http://67.18.37.14/html/emoticons/laugh.gif How dumb is that? Despit that, good promo by Batista. He's very underrated when it comes to promos.

Well, it dropped a little in the second hour, but the first hour was one of the best hours of WWE TV in months. Guerrero/Benoit was great, and even though that ended in a countout and even though Mysterio/SuperCrazy could've been better, both matches and the events surrounding them did a very effective job of building drama around the Guerrero/Mysterio PPV match. Now I actually feel bad that I'm probably going to miss it.

I used to be really tough on Smackdown, but the show has started to turn around. I'm glad to see the focus is starting to go back to more wrestling.
-Mysterio/Super Crazy was really good. I've seen better from both guys, but for a non-PPV match this was great. The Mexicools gimmick is still pretty over the top, but the wrestlers themselves are starting to look really good. It'll be nice to see them at the PPV this weekend in a big show environment.
-Christian again with the awesomeness. The guy is solid gold on the mic, and him ripping Josh Matthews was funny to see. I laughed pretty hard at the "Seacrest Out!" line. Hopefully all the great promos and improved ringwork get noticed by management.
-Not alot to say about the Animal and Heidenreich match. It was like a flashback to the old Saturday morning shows were the big name guys would squash jobbers in 10 seconds. I don't know how in shape Animal is any more, so the PPV match should be...interesting. They could have had this match 4 times in a row and still not taken as long as an Undertaker entrance :D.
-The Guerrero/Benoit match was awesome. This is the match they should have had at One Night Stand. Both guys are great in the ring, and it didn't even suffer from the countout ending. I guess they had to "injure" Benoit a little, or else nobody would take his match with Orlando Jordan seriously. The Rey/Eddie feud is over big time with the crowd, and those guys always have a good match together. Looking forward to it at Great American Bash.
-Simon Dean tried his best to outshine Christian with a great promo. Poor guy, he changes shows and still jobs more than half the roster. Hopefully he'll have better luck as Nova in the bWo.
-I am not a fan of JBL. I think he's terrible in the ring, and I wonder how he managed to go from being a jobber in APA to a World Champion in a year. That being said, his goofy gimmick and cheesy smile are just hilarious. The little Great American commercials all night were priceless. For all his faults, the guy can cut a good promo and really make the crowd hate him. I'm still not sure Batista can pull a good match out of him this weekend, but we'll see. Lots of people have said it before, but if Bradshaw could wrestle as good as he talks he'd be great.
Pretty good show this week. *** and 1/2* for the show (would have been **** if they had a match to end the show instead of talking). 2 really good matches and a lack of Undertaker make me a happy viewer.

The JBL: Great American spots were well-put together. They were a bit out there, but they fit together great with the personality of John Bradshaw Layfield.
I wasn’t giving my full attention to the Mysterio-Crazy match, but the match wasn’t the main attraction to that time frame. Eddie and the rake were.
“Now that’s a secret, playa.” Good one, Teddy.
I don’t think I can get behind Christian call Josh “Seacrest” but if that’s how he rolls…
Ah, Animal & Heidenreich doing the good ol’ “LOD squash.” I was kinda scared of Heidenreich getting up on that top rope, but he actually did a decent job. Just like he will on Sunday. I thank you.
Benoit and Eddie always turn out a good match and SmackDown! was no exception. I was concerned at the beginning that we were going to see Guerrero just beat Benoit down after he tried to care, but thankfully that didn’t happen. At first I didn’t like the count out, but Rey made him pay for it.
As soon as the MNM music hit I knew Melina was about to make an “example” :p of Candice. They should have played Torrie’s song at the end though. The sound guy needs to get on top of things.
The duality of Simon Dean and (the very much covered up) ‘Hollywood’ Nova intrigues me. I wonder how long WWE is going to pay Mike Bucci one salary to play two characters.
Ya know, I find less point in Sharmell ‘playing’ Booker T’s wife than when Debra was ‘playing’ Steve Austin’s wife. At least Kidman & Torrie and Haas & (even) Miss Jackie were both contributing to the product.
If you haven’t seen the bWo challenge yet, do yourself a favor and check it out (http://www.wwe.com/content/media/video/494698/776716/bwochallenge). It's hilarious and they should have cut out one of the JBL spots to make room for it on the SmackDown! telecast.
Few can cut a heel promo as good as John Bradshaw Layfield. He brought out some great stuff before Batista came down for the obligatory “in-ring confrontation.” The only detractor was JBL raiding Torrie Wilson’s closet for his ring attire!

I just pointed out that they didn't rush to remove him or anything. With everything going on I felt it was a point of interest. Hassan is apparently banned from the show, it would not have been improbable for him to be removed from the opening.
