My record time was 1 min 32 sec. It was in the diving pool At my college. I was taking a cource "swiming for fitness" and we had a test, in order to pass, you had to hold your breath underwater for 40 sec at 3 meter depth. I got 1 min 23 sec. What is yours?

Does it count if you had to have CPR administered?
I never have; I'm just asking for informational purposes.

Well to pass the test we had to be consious.:cool:I see. It really doesn't seem fair to dismiss those who are willing to give it their all, though.

Last year it was about two minutes. Haven't graced the water as much this year however, so I'm not sure if that still holds.

Used to be for minutes, but I haven't been under water in years.

On average, a human can stay under water for 2 whole minutes.
Knowing me, I'd probably drown. I hate water. I nearly drowned 20 years ago.

In high school, my dead man float lasted for a minute. I could've gone on longer, but apparently my dead man impression was too good and they were about to drag me out, so I pulled my head up.

With weights tied to my feet I could last years or at least until the fish eat me...

Lemme get back to you, after the "bath". :ack:
Longest I think I've ever gone underwater was about a minute and a half I believe.

I haven't tried it since my swimming test,,, your life really doesn't flash before your eyes, my only thought was "oh **** save me",,, anyway, I didn't do so good. I always wondered if you could hold your breath till you lost conciousness,,, no, your subconcious overrides your will to hold your breath,,, you will try to breath water before you die.
One hint that will get you a few extra seconds, when you really want to breath, swallow hard.

I can usually hold my breath for about 15 seconds but thats after I have been swimming and exercising for a while, I bet it would be longer when I first get in.

The Most difficult part of the test is was not holding your breath under water for 40sec, it was doing it ad 3 meters deep, you have to stay deep, it you rise you do it over. Why 3 meters deep, because at that depth water pressure is already affecting your performance, and this test was about endurance.
And yes, it you hold your breath (above water) until you pass out, you will start breathing gain.
I don't know, but I've held my breath (above water) for a little over two minutes.

I'm not sure and I certainly don't want to find out. One time,my mom and I went to the beach. I waded out to the part where the water comes up to my waist. A stupid boogie border crashed into me and sent me underwater. I had no concept of time while I was under there but I remember I was horrifyed by the experience of being underwater.
