Here's the new trailer. (http://www.cantstopthesignal.co.uk/trailer/)
So, is this going to be released within the blast radius of any other heavy hitter release?
Cuz if this lands during, like, the time National Treasure was released were it could reign unapposed by pretty much anything else, Serenity might stand a chance.

While having nothing else open opposite it for a couple weeks would be nice and certainly boost it's chances, I just hope Universal does a good job advertising it.
And I hope the general audiences aren't turned off by the fact FIREFLY/SERENITY will have no sound during the space scenes. (Though didn't some of those shots in the trailer have sound, or perhaps it was just for the trailer.)

No sound in space??? Okay, I like having my sound in space for movies.
I say, that Serenity/Firefly could both definately benefit from having better names.
I understand the names myself, but it doesn't invoke the world like a title should.
Like Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Stargate.... from the title alone you get a feel for the univese and I feel they should've spent an extra day finding a more marketable name so that it alone could grab interest. Like The Good, The Bad, the Galactic or something... I don't know. :P

Except, sound can't exist in a vacuum. Hence the original Alien tagline: "In space, no one can hear you scream."

Hence the end of my sentence "for movies."
Still, I ask... does anyone know if there are going to be any other movies released around this time that would be crushing competition?
Or will it have clear sailing like National Treasure did?

Roman Polanski's Oliver Twist is the only really big movie out that date (September 30). The Greatest Game Ever Played is released then too, but I'm not sure how much that would cut into the Serenity crowd. Word of mouth on Serenity is really good, but its hard to tell how much of that is coming from Whedon fans vs. those who have never heard of or seen the franchise. The movie won't do huge numbers, but hopefully good critic buzz will help it.

Joss Whedon confirmed at the Serenity ComicCon panel that there is no sound in space, same as in Firefly.

Then I can die in peace... after I see the movie this Fall.

The prints screened last month definitely had sound in space (at least some of the time), which struck me as really strange considering they were silent in the TV show.

That is odd, considering that he said that at the panel. Maybe there's sound when they're floating through a gas cloud, or something (that's really reaching, isn't it?).
Such a thing has happened before... 2001: A Space Odyssey had no sound in space, and its sequel did.

Maybe there's sound when they're floating through a gas cloud, or something (that's really reaching, isn't it?).The example I was thinking of, re-reading through some other fans' reviews to see if anyone else had commented on it, apparently involved Serenity entering a planet's atmosphere. So, that's right, even though for some reason I didn't think it was at the time.
Apparently some of the explosions as the climax approaches had sound in the really early screenings, but I can't remember if it was that way last month.

From CS!.net from ComicCon -
When quizzed about the 'sound in space' argument, the always witty Whedon responded: "There will be no sound in the blackness of space. On the edge of space, there will be some sound... and on the planets there will be lots of talking."
