View Full Version : the best Batman/Superman toyline
I think the best DC related toylines Hasbro ever made are BATMAN RETURNS and Superman Animated.
I love the Batman Returns packaging and most figures (even the Batman repaints) are very cool. I also like the additional vehicles.
Superman TAS is also one of my fav lines, they screwed up on the Luthor and Supergirl figure but all other figures are awesome. They managed it to make some very cool Superman figures, even if they don't wear the traditional SM suit.
BTAS of course is also a cool line, but all of the Batman repaints suck and I'm not really a fan of the Batmobile's and Batwing's strange blue color, why didn't they leave them black?
Also the first sculpts weren't that good either. The first decent Two Face we got came with the TRU 4-Pack, all others were sky blue and not white. The Phantasm figure is way too petite, the Phantasm kinda looks like a dwarf. I'm not satisfied with Clayface's color and we never got a decent Robin (Dick Grayson) either. However BTAS/TNBA had some sculpts I just have to love like the 2nd edition of Two-Face, Harley, Ivy and Mr.Freeze.
The worst line was probably Batman Beyond, I never collected these because they just looked awful (+ the fact that I hate BB ;) )

Maybe because the car was blue in series? In BTAS it was anyway. Maybe TNBA was black.
My favorite would definitely be BTAS and TNBA. I disagree about most of your comments about the sculpts, though that is a purely subjective thing. I think Phantasm is just right and Clayface is good. I totally agree about the Dick Grayson Robin. The body was simply the Batman Returns mold and the head was nice a smiley. Batman Beyond was pretty lame, overall, though it did have a few decent figures. Not many, sadly.
I also liked the Dark Knight Collection. Minimal repaints, and the ones that they had were acceptable(except maybe the gold one). Most of them were black suited. It was a small series and was overflowing with rehash.
The first decent Two Face we got came with the TRU 4-Pack, all others were sky blue and not white.
Actually, he came in a 2-pack first, but who's counting? I always thought Two-Face had a kind of blue tone to his suit. True, sometimes it appears white, but sometimes it was blue. It's been awhile so I'm probably just imagining it.

My favorite lines were the Batman animated series figure(both animated lines). I also liked the Superman animated line. Too bad I missed out on the Metallo and Bizarro toys.

Well...two words: SUPER POWERS!!!
Anyway...BTAS Batmobile was the color it was in the show...The Clayface was one of the coolest toys ever made. The Robin sucked. Lazy ass Kenner made new sculpts for everyone else...There was absolutely nothing wrong with Two Face.

My problem with the Batman Returns line is a) the Penguin figure simply sucked b) there was a Robin figure. Someone want to show me where in Batman Returns Robin made an appearance?
I loved B:TAS. There were a few figures that were never perfected, but it was a good line overall.
I HATE ALL Batman repaints personally.
True there was no Robin in Batman Returns, but I love this figure, I think it's the best Robin figure ever scuplted and I'm glad they made it.
Yeah the Penguin sucked, too bad they never made a DeVito one. Maybe DeVito looked too scary for the kids;)
I agree in BTAS the Batmobile wasn't always black, but in many episodes it was. In most episodes it was in a very deep dark blue, but it never had that ugly color Hasbro picked for it. And Batwing was black in almost all episodes.
The first Two-Face was a nice figure, but it didn't really match the animated version, the color of his white side wasn't white, it was a white with a green or blue touch. Also the scarred side had red dots and the lips were not painted. IMO the best Two-Face is the one that came with the TRU 4 Pack, because it was the first properly painted one.

Kenner started making Batman Returns toys before the script was done. In the original Batman Returns script, Robin was in the movie, and in fact was going to be played by Marlon Wayans. He was cut out at the last minute, but the toy stayed.

I have to agree with The Guard... SUPER POWERS all the way! :D
The sculpts were awesome, and the figures were both poseable and had cool actions features! Plus, there were tons of characters, and the vehicles and playsets kicked butt! I played my figures to pieces, and went through at least 3 or 4 Batmans and a couple Supermans). Unfortunately, the 1989 Batman and SP knock-off lines Toy Biz did were absolutely dreadful.
You know, with the re-releases of the 80s GI Joes and Masters of the Universe lines, I'd love to see them re-release SUPER POWERS some day. :)
