Well....we need something new for this board, and this seemed sappy enough to work. :D
Here we go...and come on, guess it! Prove you're more clever than the rest! :)
What is old, has hands, and toils on the hour?

Well, that was quick. :D Now see if you can get this one:
Little Miss Etticoat,
In a white petticoat,
And a red nose.
The longer she stands,
The shorter she grows. :dot:

Could she be a snowma...er...snowwoman? One with a red button nose?

It could be, now that you mention it, but there's another answer to this that's a little more obscure. Think...what else grows shorter with time...? :D

Here's one borrowed from Lewis Carroll:
I have a log that weighs exactly one pound.
I use a saw to cut it into four pieces of equal weight.
What is the weight of each piece?
(Everyone says 1/4 lb. which is wrong)

There was an answer...if you can't figure out the actual number, I'll accept an explanation of your reasoning. :bosko:

Well.......when you use a saw, there are usually shavings of the wood that fall off, so it's NOT exactly one pound anymore.
Was that right?
Close to right?
COME ON!!! :p

Well, the reasoning is right, though each piece would be less than 1/4 pound. Besides, you already read it, so you cheated and don't get the prize. I get to eat all the Cheez-Its myself.

I'm mad at you right now. :D But you can keep the Cheez-Its, I don't like them anyway.
Uh-oh! Did you put a (TM) on those?! Ooooooooooohhh, the legal team is gonna come over and sue you good! :p

You didn't put a (TM) after it either...
But don't worry, I'll help bust you out of prison and escape to Canada.

Yep, that's the right answer! (to mine, anyway). I'll have to give Joe's some more thought.
And in case you don't make it to Canada...Danielle, Jack, I'll see you during visiting hours! ;)

Danielle answered mine...though maybe you went past the answer on purpose? Look at this if you saw Danielle's post.
There is no number answer. It's just that each piece is less than 1/4 lb. I was kinda vague cuz I didn't wanna give away the answer :D
For Danielle's riddle...
I have two answers..."No" and, if that one's no good, "One"

Why is a raven like a writing desk?
Note: I'm really asking this because, frankly, I don't know. Ever since I heard it in Disney's "Alice in Wonderland", I've wanted to know. If the answer is unpostable, please PM me.

While Lewis Carroll had intended that there was no answer to this riddle, there's technically no real answer. But in later editions of the book, Carroll included the answer in the foreword to put a rest to all of the mail he was getting about the riddle: Because they both make notes that are flat, and are nevar put with the with the wrong end in front. (Note: nevar was purposely misspelled. Look at the word in reverse)
There's also been a lot of attempts by fans to answer the riddle. My favorite is: there's a "B" in both and "N" in neither.
