Something is going on here. I just went to Amazon.com and found a store in Hong Kong that was targeting the American market. I found 6 DVDs (There may be more) that the description said was coded for NTSC. These volumes contained the Tom and Jerry cartoons in Chronological order Starting with "Puss Gets the Boot" on volume one. These are not the same as the Japanese DVDs that have come under discussion lately. Not if the list of contents I saw was accurate.
The name of the zShop was gooddvd. Just search under the category of Movies/Video and search Tom and Jerry. Maybe somebody can tell me if I'm seeing things!

They probably bootlegged the "Art of Tom and Jerry" laserdisc transfers. I think there are some HK Looney Tunes DVDs that bootleg the GAOLT transfers, also.

I tried going to that website to find the DVDs you mentioned, but can't find anything because the forst thing you see is a login screen completely in Cantonese!!
However, as for the other set of 10 Tom and Jerry DVDs, they are indeed accurate, because I own them. As I said in the other thread, they are Region 2 and the Mammy voices are the newer African-American overdubs. However, the picture quality and overall tracking is absolutely eye-popping, I've never seen transfers of those cartoons in such good shape.
TServo is probably right, those Cantonese DVDs are probably rip-offs from the "Art of Tom and Jerry" Laserdisc set- Once I read about how there were a lot of DVDs available in China only that weren't necessarily authorized as official products, and suffered seriously from quality issues (apparently there's a release of "Song Of The South" that I hear was absolutely atrocious!!!). Plus, if I'm not mistaken, their region code is 6.

Keep in mind a lot of sellers like to casually use the term "DVD" when in fact they mean "VCD."
They are quite a few Looney Tunes VCD's floating around taken from various past VHS and laserdisc releases. Some are honest-to-god Warner-produced discs, while more than not others are simply bootlegged copies.
Without going into a huge lesson about MPEG 1 and 2, let's just say VCD's are no real substitute for DVD's as far as quality. If you MUST get a Looney Tunes DVD right now, your only option are the three Japanese Tweety discs. At least Tom and Jerry fans have one U.S. DVD to pick up easily. :bosko:
Just make sure you know what you're buying, especially if it's from a private or lesser-known dealer.

That makes sense. I wonder what they look like? It does say digitally remastered on the description. But the store owner assures me they are compatible with our standard NTSC DVD players. I wonder...
Larry,
Try going through Amazon.com. On the opening screen, you have the option of where you want to go right above the search box. Choose zShops. Push GO without entering anything. On the next screen at the top right there is a browse box. Choose Movies & Video. Then push GO again. On the next screen at the top left the title will say zShops search and the box will say "Movies & Video Only. Next to this is another search box. Enter Tom and Jerry and press GO. This will show all the Tom and Jerry available. Just look for the DVDs sold by gooddvd. It will all be in English with extremely thorough histories, information and contents. Let me know what you think. :bosko:

I checked out the "gooddvd" Tom & Jerry DVDs on Amazon's Zshops and they definitely look like bootlegs of the laserdisc set to me. I'd stick with the official Japanese releases. Searching through the seller's store brings up a number of cartoon DVDs that all also look like bootlegs.
The same seller also has Foghorn Leghorn, Tweety and Sylvester, Andy Panda, Mickey Mouse, Tex Avery, Pepe Le Pew, Pluto, and Droopy DVDs all with the identical "Cartoon Collections" logo on the covers. And all of them have contents which are exactly the same as official VHS or Laserdisc releases.
I'd be very, very wary if I were you!

Don't know how Harvey Comics got the rights to publish Tom & Jerry comics but they did so about ten years ago. They didn't last for more than a couple of years tops. The issues I saw looked like they were reprints of European comics. The artwork was good but the coloring could have been better.
One story I recall enjoying placed Tom and Jerry in a medieval fantasy setting. At the end of the story, it was revealed that Tom and Jerry were playing a dungeons & dragons type game.
Believe it or not, Harvey Comics also published a Woody Woodpecker comic at the same time. There was also a Felix The Cat comic around the same time but I'm not sure if Harvey Comics published it.

Yup, Harvey also did the Felix one. I should have the first issue around somewhere.

I've got a couple Felix the Cat comic books from the 1950s published by Harvey Comics.

Yeah, there was a whole bunch of "Harvey Classics" comic books in the early 1990s. They also had "Harvey Classics" comic books with the Hanna-Barbera characters. I had one, possibly a "Big Book", that featured a bunch stories with miscellaneous characters. I don't have it anymore, but I remember it included Hokey Wolf and Yakky Doodle. If I remember correctly, "Popeye" and "Muppet Babies" were also part of the "Harvey Classics" line.
