1. Spider-Man (90's): It had repetitive animation and minmum violence, sure, but it also had mutli-layered storylines, character development, and ssuperb voice acting

2. Spider-Man/Spider-Man and His Amazing Freinds: (accidently voted this), it tried different things with Spidy, including a five part arc that fans of the first series STILL find remarkible that it worked back in a syndication-dominating feild for which both series were crearted for, and se the tone for later efforts, Amazing Freinds itself is a strong follow-up, with a second season that boasted amazing animation

3. Spider-Man (60s'): The KING of recycled animation footage, the first series also has it's own elegant origanlity, using many of it's own villains as opposed to Spidys' comics rouges gallery, some of the episodes (mostly from the first season) are still watchable, (such as Parafinos' outings, and the one with Blackwell the Magigician)

4. Spider-Man Unlimited: Theres'...something that really could have been done about this series, and that's a shame, I don't like it, but there were things, rewatching it now after so long, that could have been much more.
It clearly wanted to be as good as the 90s' equivilant, but it never reached that level. Graz Animation was dead, and the episodes just confused the heck out of those who did get a hold of it before it was cancelled in favour of the more refined dubbing of Digimon

I liked the 00 version better than the 90s version. The 90s version was just depressing after awhile. I thought the 00 version got the right mix of comedy and drama of any Spiderman series. Plus, they stopped that stupid inner dialogue thing the 90s version droned on and on with.

I prefer the one from the 60's, sure the footage may have been recycled a lot, but at least the storylines and dialogue were good.

The so-called "stupid inner dialouge" was very truthful to the comics and was quite innovative and emoitional at times, particulary in "Turning Point"

I also liked the ones from the 80's, but I'm partial to the 60's cartoon. Paul Kligman does the best J. Jonah Jameson I ever heard in my life.

Spider-Man (60's) » I've only seen two episodes of this, and although it seemed really classic, I just couldn't watch it comfortably, as it was too 'goofy'; although the goofiness also makes it more characterising than it would otherwise be. It makes it sort of fun to watch.

Spider-Man/Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends (80's) » I've seen a few of these, and although they annoy me not[/i] true to the comics [mainly continuity-wise]] they are fun to watch. I like the interaction of the heroes and the stories are nice.

[b]Spider-Man: The Animated Series (90's) » This one is the winner in my book. It's the first Spider-Man animated series I ever watched, and I loved the animation, story arcs and attention to the comic continuity. Almost everything in the show happened in the comics, one way or another. It was a good thing that most stories were somewhat altered, it kept it exciting, even for longtime Spidey fans which already sort of knew where the storylines were going. This was also the first cartoon I ever saw which contained actual continuity, stories spanning through several seasons, and that's what had me determined to never miss an episode of it, always being home in time for the next new episode.

Spider-Man Unlimited » A weird cartoon. I'm never sure if it's intended to be a sequel to S:TAS , but I don't really like the idea of Spider-Man going to this alternative universe and having all these alternate versions of his regular rogues gallery there. It supports my opinion that my favourite episode was the first one, in which he still sported his original costume and was still on Earth. They shouldn't have rushed things getting him into space, and spent the first two or three episodes on Earth, letting us get used to this new show. I remember being [i]so excited about a new Spider-Man animated series, after my annoyance at the open ending of S:TAS, only to be let down at the direction the new series took.
The new costume was okay, but I hated the way Peter was drawn out of costume.

Spider-Man - MTV (00's) » I've heard lots of good things about this series [along with some negative things; though those are in the minority], and I like what I've seen of the art / computer work, but I've never got a chance to see it, as it never aired on television here in Holland. Too bad. Having the comic tie into the storyline of the movie seems interesting to me as well.

You've missed [at least?] one Spider-Man animated series; the one titled "Spider-Man", which ran alongside the "Amazing Friends" series in the 80's. It was done by near enough the same creative team, I believe.
Someone else will have to fill in more on this show, as I've never seen an episode of it.

[edit] My excuses. You did include the above-mentioned Spider-Man animated series, I just read over it, seeing as it was in the same line as the "Amazing Friends" and is so short compared to that title ;)

As you can see, it's gotten a lot of thorough coverage, in terms of Amazing Freinds2 (which was arguably more or less self-contained), the predecesor had a recurring story arc with Spidy fighting Doctor Doom

I think the 90's series is the best. Despite obvious limitations, it's still the best of the bunch. I dig all the different Spidey toons, for different reasons, but the one I wish we could've seen more of is Spider-Man: The New Animated Series.

I think it recieved a lot of flak despite making a lot of improvements towards the end of it's run. I don't think MTV could've treated it any worse than they did, and Marvel didn't seem to treat it much better. I mean, restricting the villains is bad enough, but they practically refused to allow the characters to grow beyond thier movie personas. The show should've been allowed to show Harry become the Green Goblin or have Peter and MJ get together.

Hopefully, they'll make season 2 and ignore the movies.

Except for MTV's Spider-man and Unlimited, I like all the other series equally. Each of these series were able to convey the essence of Spider-Man.

I think what you saw first may be your personal favorite. I grew up with Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends and that is my favorite. The 90's show is a very close 2nd for me. I like the 60's one but the animation is horrible. The MTV just never set right with me and the Unlimited I never saw.

I like the 90's Spider-Man cartoon the best, the worst in my opinion is the 60's Spider-Man cartoon.
