Cartoon Network Preps New Superhero Series

ATLANTA, June 24: May 2006 will see the launch of Ben 10, a new 26x30-minute science-fiction/action-adventure series currently in production at Cartoon Network Studios.

The series follows the adventures of 10-year-old Ben Tennyson, a seemingly normal boy who, with the flick of his wrist, can transform into any one of 10 alien beings with amazing superpowers.

"What kid doesn't want to be a superhero? And wouldn't being 10 superheroes be 10 times as cool?" said Sam Register, Cartoon Network’s senior VP of development. "Ben 10 will continue in the tradition that Cartoon Network has established of creating a new generation of superhero shows, like Teen Titans and Justice League Unlimited, for a new generation of kids. It's an undeniably original premise with amazing alien heroes and incredible villains."

I remember reading the synoposis for this and thinking that the concept reminded me of "Dial H For Hero". IIRC there was a DHFH series in development , so did CN decide to just take the concept and apply to their own show?

It's coming to Toonami.

how are they comparing this to JLU? it sounds more like Miguzi style then Toonami but since its an original they'll want to air premieres only once a week so as always Toonami gets stuck with something probably not so hot :(

Ben 10 doesn't sound too promising for the direction of Toonami and bringing up TT & JLU is funny. :p

I'm sure it'll air on Miguzi eventually but it'll premiere on Toonami just like all the action originals (for boys) do.

Is it just me or is Miguzi getting the short end of the stick these days?

Depends on how you look at it. Miguzi gets next to no premeires but it's only 2 hours daily. Toonami gets most of the premieres but it's only on 4 hours all week. The problem Miguzi seems to have is that CN doesn't want to premiere new stuff outside of prime time very often. The two main shows on Miguzi since it's conception have been Totally Spies and Teen Titans and they get premeires on Sunday and Saturday nights respectively. Those premeires don't even usually encore on Miguzi but they do eventually air there.

The problem I have with Miguzi is it's the same crap they air any other time of the day where as even at it's worst, Toonami at least aired stuff the rest of CN didn't. Of course... now Toonami doesn't do that as much as it used to but still enough to make it more interesting.

Miguzi needs some exclusives that are worth watching. Apparently it has some coming so we'll just have to wait and see.

Is it just me or is Miguzi getting the short end of the stick these days?"These days?" It always has. Even Tickle U at its premiere is getting more attention, and more new shows (the whole block is new, for crying out loud) than Miguzi has ever had at one given time. Cartoon Network obviously doesn't care when they have to reinvent a concept, but when they have something new on their hands (Tickle U, Toonami, Adult Swim), they'll try to make it flourish with fresh programming.

It would be nice if we could see "First Pictures" of what Ben 10 will look like.

And if memory serves me correctly, there were two kids in the Dial H for Hero, a boy and a girl.

Miguzi has this problem of airing the same stuff the rest of CN would. Obviously that wouldn't be the case with a pre-schooler block or a block that targets above 6-11 regularly. For some reason those stupid kids will watch Totally Spies and Teen Titans no matter how many times they've seen the episode. Miguzi's only chance at premieres is acquisitions for the most part and look where One Piece ended up despite having at least 26 episodes to air when they first got it. At some point CN decided Miguzi would be a block made of shows that premiered elsewhere first (for the most part). And only major successes or expected major succeeses will air on the block now. All things considered... giving it bumpers isn't even neccessary. They'd save a TON of money if it wasn't a "block".

Well, I don't know if Steven Gordon is involved anymore with the project, but he does have a few designs up on his website from the past year or two:

Obviously that wouldn't be the case with a pre-schooler block or a block that targets above 6-11 regularly.True, but I'm surprised that they didn't even attempt to try to add Krypto, Hamtaro, Baby Looney Tunes, or even the Hanna-Barbera preschool shows, to the block. Certainly, that would've been the Cartoon Network way.

Miguzi doesn't need to have all of the expensive 3D effects that it has. Just slap a name on any given timeframe and give it some cheap graphics. Pull an Adult Swim. Nobody will mind.

It may be just me, but I don't think that a show about a 10 year old would be Toonami-style material. I know they have Khan Piece and it's doing well, strangely, but I could see it premiering on weekend Miguzi... then once it's had its 26 eps, could go into weekday Miguzi as well and such.

Miguzi really isn't a place for premieres. Miguzi can't hype like Toonami can. And, weekend Miguzi is a deathtrap, except for right before Toonami. That's the only place I could see Ben 10 on Miguzi. At 6:30. Otherwise, I'd rather another Cartoon Network original not fall prey to the deathtrap for originals that Miguzi is. It didn't help Megas, and I'm sure it won't help this show, either.

*bump*

I just uncovered some VA info about this series. Infamous voice actress Tara Strong (Raven, Bubbles, Barbara Gordon, etc.) will be voicing the titular character.

Nobody knows where Ben 10 will air. Just wait until CN announces where it'll be.

As for Miguzi not gettnig premeires, Cody Lyoko season 2 and Yu-Gi-Oh! GX will both be premeireing on Miguzi this fall, so you can't say they are getting no premeires, and I really don't think they have been short shafted either. They did premeire 4Kids Winx Club to Cn as well, and they do have their "New to the Gooze" block after 2 runs on Toonami usually for the Titans.

Also, last time I checked, Miguzi has premiered an episode of Teen Titans that still hasn't aired on Toonami and is beginning to look like it never will air on Toonami. They also did that Totally Spies premeire which hasn't aired elsewhere yet. Both of those occurred when they introduced Yolk.

Ben 10 sounds like a lighter version of Killer 7's concept...

I have mixed feelings about this.

Oh and I do think that airing Miguzi as a block helped it, it linked the shows together.

Toonami, a block that airs only once a week, has had more premiere episodes of shows in one year than Miguzi has in its existence. And, getting two premiere shows and three premiere episodes doesn't mean that it is not.

Let's see:

Miguzi

2 episodes - Teen Titans
1 episode - Totally Spies!

premiere shows - Code Lyoko, Yu-Gi-Oh! GX
network premiere - Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

Toonami since switch to Saturday

about 2 seasons of Teen Titans
2+ seasons of Justice League Unlimited

premiere shows - Naruto, Duel Masters, Rave Master, DICE, Bo^7, IGPX, Megas, Transformers, Wulin Warriors, Zatch Bell, if not more

premiere episodes - Dragonball GT, Yu Yu Hakusho, Teen Titans, Justice League Unlimited, if not more

network premieres - One Piece

But, I do recall Miguzi airing a premiere Teen Titans in January (Martin Luther King, Jr. Day), or some other holiday that month (if there are any).

If you list One Peice as a network premeire then why not list TMNT too?
