View Full Version : Superman's Costume in Smallville?

Executive Producer Al Gough has said that nobody in a costume will show up in Smallville. I hope they don't keep Clark from becoming Superman when the time is right. Clark may be just a freshman, but Tom Welling is already 24. Does anyone think they will or won't prevent Superman from donning the tights in the span of the Smallville series? That they should or shouldn't?
It's way too early now, but I think it would be a good idea eventually.

Maybe they'll use it as a series finale. Him flying off into Metropolis to cap it all off?

Despite the wishes of the show's producers, I think showing Clark in costume should definitely happen at least in the last episode.
Everyone knows where the story is going. So, it just wouldn't feel right to never see Clark as Superman...even if briefly.
The "flash forwards" in the psychic episode would have been a perfect place to show a quick glimpse of him in costume. I also kept waiting during Lex's future glimpse to at least see a man flying. Oh, well.
My vote is to see him in costume eventually...as the eventual series closer. Start bulking up, Tom.

I am in accord with you all! The last episode should and more than likely will be the episode where he becomes Superman. And moves to Metropolis, which won't be so tough since it's only a limo ride away! ;)

Yeah, I'm gonna have to disagree.
Because, once Clark graduates from high school, he goes off to college, and then travels around the world before going to Metropolis. I don't think that we should see the Supes suit in the show.

I'm voting with the "last episode Clark flies off across the Metropolis skyline in full blue and red suit".

For the Series finale, they should bring on the Red, Yellow, and Blue.

I'd love to see him in costume in the last episode too. But other's have made a good point: that it's not until a few years later after graduation, college and traveling that he dons the red, yellow and blue. But, maybe they could some thing at the last ep where we see an older looking Clark in Metropolis or something headed for work at the Daily Planet. And then at the very end we see Superman flying over Metropolis. That would be cool, I think at least.

Where the hell does he travel before becoming Superman? It's not like he's Bruce Wayne.

Since the basic premise behind Smallville is following along the lines of Bynres The Man of Steel the last episode should flow pretty much like the events of issue no.1
He goes to Metropolis to start making a life for himself there and on his first day goes to witness the space-plane launch (or something simalar) and an accident happens that forces him to use his powers in public.
He has that breif moment with Lois before the crowd begins to mob him.
Freaked out by this he returns to Smallville where confding in his folks he poses the question "They're going to be looking for me now. Expecting me. How can I do what is needed and still have a normal life."
(With the cast of actors on Smallville I can see this whole thing really coming off very nicely)
Then based on the name that the reporter in the space-plane gave him "Superman" Johnathan comes up with the idea of the costume and Martha creates it. (perhaps with a nod to Pre-Crisis making it from materials in his ship and maybe a nod to the movies in having the S be a Kryptonian glyf)
He finally tries it on and like the last page of Man of Steel no.1 Smallville would end with "When people need my very special kindof help, it won't be a job for plain ordinary Clark Kent, it'll be a job...for Superman! and in that moment, what we've waited the entire series to see, Clark in costume *flies* in the air and towards his destiny. :)

The series finale would need to wrap up the Lana Lang love story in a depressing way, then in metropolis somehow show hope with lois without moving it to fast in the hour show. And THEN show the costume, of course sewed by his mom.

Good point, gotta remember his puppy-love with Lana Lang. Man, if they pulled off everything we've talked about here, that would rock! Mind you that they would be able to pull it off well is what would be great.

Shoot. If I was Clark and had to decide between Lana & Smallville vs. Lois & Metropolis, I'd be a townie forever!
I have to wonder though, say Smallville goes more than 4 seasons. They graduate high school. Clark would have to go to college, so they wouldnt be able to go right into him working at the Daily Planet and saving the world yet. Do you think they'd do what most shows do and make everybody go to Metropolis U or do you think they'd recast everyone but Clark?
