I found this talkback through a link in the Batman: Year One talkback, so I hope no one minds if I add a couple comments.

Like with Robin:Year One, the artist chosen to tell the story is perfect! There's a real indie sense given the comic and that really sells the more personnel, quiet nature of this comic story. I'm sure they could have gone with some poppy, fancy artist like Damion Scott, who drew the new Batgirl (ugh) comic for awhile to make a cnnection. But by using an artist not well known, they one again add a visual flair that's unique but fits the gritty style from Batman: Year One and Robin: Year One.

It's a pretty solid origin story. It does drag on just a bit too long but the reward overall is pretty great. Highly Recommended.

I just read this story and thought it was quite enjoyable. Granted, I perfer Cassandra over Barbara as Batgirl, but this is probably one of the best portryals of Barb Bat in the comic universe. The stories were fun (despite some confusion like why someone is strangling her and B & R are unconcious, yet it never happened during the book), especially when she gets the bike a second time and says it won't last 5 hours, then changes it to 5 minutes.

Excellent read!!
I loved it! Teh story of Babs was handled perfectly and her personality shined through! The highly cartoonish renditions only heightened the sense of lighthearted fun Babs saw vigilantism as during those days.
AWESOME!

5 STARS!
