View Full Version : Braceface
This is a really fun series that i have always enjoyed watching whenever i catch it on, i mean i've never been a huge fan that i go and look for the show whenever it's on,i'm sure there are a lot of episodes i haven't watched. But any other fans?
I'd love to see a dvd release, how many episodes did this series get?

I used to watch it and liked it a lot. I liked how it delt with drinking, puberty, and relationship issues. Sadly, I lost interest after a while...

"Braceface" lasted from 2001-2004. It's a Canada/China co-production. Alicia Silverstone was Sharon for a while but she got replaced.
Currently, there are three DVD's that have been released.
Apparently, Disney doesn't air each episode. I hear that they skip episodes due to the subject matter.
Was "A Dog's Life" aired? With one line that Adam says, I can't see Disney airing it:
"Name: Pigger Spitz
Sex: not any more. He's fixed."
How about "The worst first date ever, period"? Was that one aired?

It aired in Canada on Teletoon! As for the U.S., I saw on one of the BraceFace DVD's that says is says "Including the episode you can't see on TV", which is The Worst date ever. Period.

Hein?? That episode is so cute and funny!!
What's so great about it is that both Alden and Sharon are going through puberty and they're dealing with it together.
I hit puberty at a young age (younger than Alden and Sharon) and I had to go through it by myself. It wasn't fun.
Teletoon aired the final episode last September.
78 episodes, i wonder how many episodes are on each dvd..i doubtmore that 5 though....
I just saw an episode on disney yesterday where she graduated Jr. High, so does she actually go to High School for a few episodes?
n/m that episode is only in the 20s
I just had thought most of the series took place in jr. high.

There's three DVD's, there's a fourth that says currently unavailable, but supposidly came out earlier this year. To read about the Braceface DVDs you can visit: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/search-handle-form/002-1669136-5547247 and www.bracefacevideo.com (http://www.bracefacevideo.com)
EDIT: I'm pretty sure it's three episodes per dvd.

Three episodes per DVD.
She goes through jr. high for most of the series. She graduates jr. high and the series ends as she's in high school.
Hopefully they'll get a better release even if it's not box sets.
Witout being too spoilerific, did the show have a nice end?

Yeah. :)
Let me just say this: after one episode with them in high school, I got worried that Alden's voice actor would have left because of the circumstances between Alden and Sharon, thus I thought Alden was gone for GOOD.
Thankfully, that didn't happen.

I personally think it did. The last episode was called " A Leap Of Faith". It was sad to see a cute, real show leaving.
One last question, in the US are they still premiering episodes?
And did any type of merchandise like toys ever come out?

What was the last episode aired on Disney?
Insofar, the only thing merchandise related to "Braceface" are the DVD's.

I'm pretty sure that episodes are still premiering in the U.S. I;m sure that besides the Dvds there isn't any other merchandice. At least not yet..
EDIT: All that came up on ebay was a watch of a monkey with braces and the DVDs. Also there are two versions of the DVDs: Edited and not-edited.

There probably won't be, either. Nelvana didn't give the rights to any company to produce merchandise related to "Braceface".

I did see "Worst Date Ever, Period". I forgot about it though. My favorite was the one about the tatoo.

Braceface was a cool show. I remember I used to watch in back in the days that it aired on Fox Family. I watch it every now and then on Disney. I've always liked Sharon and Maria's friendship in the episodes. Although Sharon can sometimes get annoying, she's a pretty relateable character.

Liked the show too and I recorded like 6 episodes when it was on ABC family and I record the worst date ever period and the one with the tattoo already.;)

I wonder what Vincent was thinking when he had to make his voice crack for Alden.
Seems like deja vu for him. :anime:

I like "Brace Face". I just wish Disney wouldn't air the same few episodes that they do air. I love the episode about using fur in clothing. I can really relate to Sharon a lot, especially on that episode.

I have watched Braceface every since it premiered on the old ABC Family Channel in 2001. I'll try to give you all a brief history on its airings in the US.
The first season and approximately one half of season two (Episodes 1-41) were shown on ABC Family from 2001-2003. The last episode shown on the channel was "Miss Understanding". While the show disappeared from US airwaves at that time, it continued to be shown on Teletoon in Canada (Episodes 42-78).
Sometime last year, the show began to be occasionally aired on Disney Channel and is currently being shown 4 days a week. Disney is only showing the episodes already shown in the U.S. (1-41) and they are edited to Disney's standards. Additionally, there are a number of episodes that have not, and most likely, will not air due to content. These episodes are, in chronological order:
Episode #8 - The Worst First Date. Period. - (Of course)
Episode #13 - Miami Vices - (Sharon gets drunk)
Episode #19 - Whose Life Is It, Anyway? - (Sharon wants a tattoo)
Episode #37 - Grey Matters - (Sharon's grandfather spouts racial stereotypes)
Alicia Silverstone provided the voice for the character of Sharon Spitz during the first two seasons (Episodes 1-52). Stacey Depass took over the role for Season 3 (Episodes 53-78).
Hope this helps.
Disney: Show the rest of the series!

I bet there will be other episodes from season three that Disney won't air. Chee.. don't bother airing "When In Rome" while you're at it, Disney. And, OMG!! There's a gay character in the series!! Actually two but Dion is the main gay character. Might as well not air the episodes he's in either.
I can't see "A Dog's Life" being aired on Disney. If so, I feel sorry for you guys. One line that Adam says is hilarious!!
According to TV.com, the final episode, "Leap of Faith", will air on Disney in January, 2006.

Thats not true. Nelvana gave the dvd rights to Funimation Ltd. Heres the thread about the dvds. http://communitydev.funimation.com/showthread.php?p=74032&posted=1#post74032 this thread and many others talk about Braceface on dvd. visit them. :gir:

I believe on TV.com (where the old TVTome.com is now directed to), all episodes not aired in the US as of yet (Episodes 42-78) are dated to be shown in January, 2006. More than likely, they are dated that way as space holders on the site (since all other eps have accurate air dates) and they are not scheduled to air as of yet. More telling is the fact that Braceface is no longer on Disney's schedule as of today. Bummer!
I have only read short synopses of these unaired eps and have no clue as to what or what not would be aired on Disney if they did show them. Only those of you who have seen them can speculate on that issue.
BTW, one thing I left out of my original post: Sharon is in Grade 8 during Season one and does graduate. One of Season two's first eps is when she first starts high school. I'm not sure what grade she is in at the end of the series or if she graduates from high school. Anybody who has seen the latter part of the series can provide that info.

How Canadian channels don't like having the word "war" in a cartoon's title, but they don't mind having an episode of Sharon where she attempts to make her breasts look bigger.

There's a lot that our statioins would air that would make the American stations blush.

I was kinda talking about shows produced in Canada. Like Beast Wars becoming Beasties and War Planets becoming Shadow Raiders (with War Planets printed in a really tiny font).

I don't get why they censor that either, but they def. air more "risque" stuff there, i mean here we dont' even get the entire season of degrassi since it is too controversial...

I guess i'll just have to buy it online (unless it's really expensive).
not too big of a problem, not very convinient though.

Yeah, I prefer to purchase things in store, so I have it right in my hands when I buy it, as opposed to waiting for a set. But, I guess I'll order this, also. If it is in a store and I see it, I'll let anyone who wants to know know... unless they let me know.
