I don't know if this has been brought up before, but just a reminder.

After reading a thread on aod.com about Big-Lots stores carrying anime, I checked this afternoon. Sure enough, they had a few. Not all the goodies that some people have found, but some good finds none the less.

At the store I visited they had:

Ai Yori Aoishi Vol.5
Hamtaro Vol.1
Misc. Project Arms volumes
Misc. Zoids:NC0 volumes

All I bought was the Zoids discs, seeing as I haven't seen any of AYA or Project Arms and I already own Hamtaro V.1.

According to the thread at aod.com, people have found things like Mao-Chan, Master Keaton, Sol Bianca, Soul Taker, Lain, Gad Guard and some others. I plan on going back in a few days to see if they got anything new in.

It's been a while since I've been to a Big Lots, but they usually have the old DBZ VHS casettes as well.

Wow and all they had recently were videos of Filmation's Ghostbusters and DBZ. I'd like to see if they do have Lupin the 3rd: Secret of Mamo at my store.

While they didn't have anything really big, they did have Secret of Mamo (which I already have), and two volumes of Sherlock Hound.

Oh, and about 20 copies of Bill Clinton's biography.

I went earlier today and found absolutely no anime titles except for two Yu-Gi-Oh videos. No, my store was too busy stocking up on over 20 copies of some type of Mary-Kate and Ashley movie where they're detectives or something.

Yeah, hitting a few different Big Lots! in the ATL area, I've come up with:

Magical Project S vols 1&2
Heat Guy J eps 14+
Gad Guard 1&2
Wanderers El Hazard 2&3 or 3&4
Mao Chan 1&2
and some random Hamtaro dvds which will be Christmas pressies for Jaelie.

Now Mao-chan is tempting. Might have to drive up to Big Lots (never thought I'd say that.)

I'm not a big fan of the Big Lots chain, but some of the stuff they have is pretty decent, though I never thought I see the day that anime would find its way to a closeout store.

I just grab Mao-chan 1&2 today there. Yay for the cute.

They also had Chobits 6, Lain Signature 1&2, Armitage III Poly Matrix and Dual Matrix, El Hazard 2 or 3, Someday's Dreamers 2 (with Post Card, which dishearteningly suggests that show never made it to a second printing,) Master Keaton 3, 4 and 5, Patlabor WXIII and something else I don't remember but was really old.

Our store only had one Hamtaro DVD and a Sherlock Hound volume 5. I purchased Sherlock to to see it. There was also a bonfire out back. I assume that was the Clinton novels. (Jussssssssssst kidding :p )

I went to Big Lots today to see what animes they had. <snip> Heck, yours has a VERY different selection than what I've seen at the Big Lots! around ATL.

Last time I went there, they had some Hamtaro and some Cardcaptors-esque series. A friend had picked up Fatal Fury: Double Impact before, so I need to go and see if they have anything good now.

Dang, are there any Big Lotses in New Jersey? Let me go check out their website before I lose out on a good deal.

EDIT - There are, and apparently, I can't go to any of them.

no car yet:mad:

Nicely done :anime: :curstsies:

I got to tell ya, not half as nicely done as earlier today. 13 new DVDs to my happy little collection. =) I left more than I bought, but when you do voluntary work and don't have any sort of real income, you have to do that, even when you find dvds priced at $3.99 a piece.

Chobits 2,6 & 7 (don't yell at me, I happen to like the series)
Gungrave 1
Licensed by Royalty (don't remember the volume number)
Master Keaton 1 & 4
Sakura Wars with this nifty numbered picture postcard package included
Sherlock Hound 1 & 4
Trigun 1 & another from the second season
and WXIII which looks the most interesting of the lot.

But geepers, the store in town, where I've still done best of all the other Big Lots! around the area, there is a Grammy working there who does NOT like me. (Which is fine obviously, I only find it amusing that a clerk would take such pains to make it obvious to THAT particular customer, and the others in line behind her!)

As she rang my DVDs up, she's giving me this look as if I, personally am the reason the worlds in the shape it is... She keeps informing me that the dvds are rated 13+ and 16+ and that she wouldn't be buying them for her teenage granddaughters, to which I respond that that's a good idea. She must think I'm buying them for some child who I ought not be buying them for. Or heaven forbid, for myself, in which case I must be some sort of freak of nature... an adult lady who watches animation?!?!

Anyway, this wasn't so much a post for me to celebrate my findings, but just to remind people that new stuff may turn up during the next few weeks, so it might not hurt to try back.

You stop by Stockbridge, too? ha! No, not recently. I'll give fair warning next time I'm in the area. http://img25.photobucket.com/albums/v76/guinaevere/smilies/wink.gif

Ok, me unshaven and scruffy looking picked up mao-chan 1 and 2 (which btw were cute and semi-satirical.) I think the clerk just did her best to ignore me :D

We all went to two different Odd Lots in the area (I refuse to call them Big Lots for some reason). The first one didn't have much of anything, just a few copies of Hamtaro. The other one though... that's another story altogether. I got Patlabor WXIII movie, Vandread four, Vandred" Second Stage one, and NeiA_7 3. My brother picked up Someday Dreamers one and two and Master Keaton 4. Finally my girlfriend picked up L/R one and two.

Yeah, go back everyweek or so. I found a volume of Captain Herlock that wasn't there the last time I went. (it's in Athens btw)

Ok, me unshaven and scruffy looking <SNIP> I think the clerk just did her best to ignore me :D I would too. :p But I'll try that from next time... I won't shave. Something tells me that won't help in my case, though. http://img25.photobucket.com/albums/v76/guinaevere/smilies/wink.gif

My brother picked up Someday Dreamers one and two Those are both at the one in town. Looked good, but I left 'em. If anyone can tell me if they're worth picking up or not worth bothering, I'd appreciate it.

Definately well worth it if you really like slice of life type anime. I put off getting Someday's Dreamers for a long time and after seeing it regret I did. It's one of those often overlooked jems that I am now glad I have in my collection.

My thoughts on Someday's Dreamers - http://forums.toonzone.net/showthread.php?t=95907

The Short Version: It's worth list price, so it's a steal at 4 bucks a disc.

Looks like the secret is out.

The last time my local store got in some anime titles is was mainly stuff like Hamtaro and Yu-gi-oh, but sometime in the past few days they got another shipment in.

They got in some of the stuff listed ealier, plus a few other things. I ended up getting one of the two copies of Sakura Wars: The Movie Limited Edition(#5,036 out of 15,000), Kishin Corps, and Trigun Volume 1. I was thinking about also picking up the two Artemis movies, but it looked like someone else got to the few copies of Poly-Matrix before I did.

I almost feel embarrased admitting this, but I also get a 20% discount ontop of it.

I made another trip to Big Lots yesterday and I picked up WXIII Patlabor 3, 3 Volumes of Vandread, 2 volumes of Somerday's Dreamers and two volumes of Beyblade Grevolution for my nephew. So far I bought 19 dvds from Big Lots in the last two weeks.
