Dub Title: RogueTown
Japanese Title: The Town of the Beginning and the End. Arrival at Loguetown.
Chapter: 96-98

After last weeks clip show, how bad can it get? Anyway, in case you didn't know the final three episodes of the Arlong Arc were plastered together into 22 minutes of animation. Also, the Buggy mini-arc is cut too. Now we're in Rogue Town and the beginning of the Grand Line. After the commercial break the Whisky Peaks arc will start. Probably.

Once again, refrain from bashing anything in this thread. Save it for other threads.

So after 6 became one last week, will there be a repeat performance this time around? Maybe the episode title means we'll be seeing ALL of Loguetown in one shot.

Next weeks episode prediction:
Luffy vs. Crocodile, and then off to Sky Island for a new adventure

I don't think so. The dubtitles for the next 2 eps are "Switching Blades" and "Sanji Sizzle's".

Wow, so they won't be hacking everything?

However, based on those titles it looks like Usopp vs. Daddy is getting cut out, as 49-51 are becoming two episodes now.

The voicework in this show makes my ears bleed.

And while I don't mind Chaser's voice, them cutting out his cigars and adding in that smoke? Geh.

Oh GOD! Luffy and Usopp singing some of the National Anthem during the commercial break!

edit: "More Power Juice"?

Now, that wasn't that bad, though the last part of the ep was scenes from the next episiode ("Chaser" vs. Luffy, Buggy's cards) Though Alvida kept her accent

Tashigi kept her name, though mispronounced (It should be Tash-gi, not Tash-i-gi) Overall, pretty good, though I didn't like the Bartenders, Tashigis, or "Chasers" voices. I hated thier anthem as it was proof of their butchering in my eyes.

Compared to last week's Hacked 3 ep merge, today's ep wasn't that bad.

I can't believe they cut the entire buggy arc... i loved those eps as I am a buggy fan... also i was curious as how they were gonna handle general smoker ... and honesty i dont think those soccer moms could have done any better

I didn't see the first part of the episode. Did 4Kids even TRY to explain why Chaser has smoke coming out of his mouth without there being a cigar there?

Chaser's voice wasn't bad, though. He sounded off when he was yelling at Luffy to be serious (the voice didn't match the visual at all), but overall the voice isn't as bad as it could have been.

And how useful it was:p

I figured they'd give Kuina's voice to Tashigi...Well it does sound familiar..That's my guess..

Ditto. I don't know who's voice is worse: Luffy's or Mew Ichigo's/Zoey's. (Because we all know that worser singing voices come from 4Kids' female actors. Not the males.)

I figured they'd use Kuina's voice. At least it fits Tashigi a lot better.

Smoker's voice is fine but just like Sanji when he yells the animation doesn't fit the voice at all. He yells too quietly for the over the top animation.

I liked Darren Dunstin voicing the bar keeper.

"Power Juice"... yeah okay... Whatever happened to "the strong stuff"?

Ugh... Alvida's voice shouldn't be so gruff anymore. It could be the same actress and with an accent but it should sound more... um... sexy... I guess.

Well... it could have been worse.

I thought we stopped making that joke ages ago after the Battle City Finals ended.

Anyway, here's what I have to say about the episode.

-Chaser: Like the new name. Another one of those "Why didn't I think of that?" deals I get. Doesn't mean Smoker is a bad name though but you know how soccer moms are.

-Watch as next week, they drop the smoke coming out of his mouth as well as the cigarette. Heck if I didn't know any better, I'd say they added in more smoke.

-Damnit Alvida, you're not an old fat woman anymore, stop sounding like one!

That's all I can type right now.

Did the translators or even the VA for Alvida ever bother to lissen to the Japanese Alvida after the first episode? She doesn't keep that voice. That's the whole point of her character being the most beautiful woman in the world.

Alvida and Buggy return, but they sounded a bit different than I remember early on. They're VA's still need to adjust though. Luffy's VA remained horrible, and watching Shaman King afterwards made it clear Luffy and Lyserg were the same VA. VA's need to change their voices a bit if a series is to succeed. At least the episodes weren't combined like the others, but I sense more combining in the future.

So that woman was Alvida, heh did they skip the episode that explains why she doesn't look like a Kraken anymore or will that be explained later.

I didn't know Smoker/Chaser was supposed to be smoking all the time. I thought he had some freezing abilities and that was like mist or something coming from his mouth.

Luffy seemed to be losing control of his powers that was kind of weird.

The episodes skipped didn't reveal how Alvida got so thin; that explanation comes up in a few episodes, if I recall correctly.

The two episodes skipped were more or less an anime telling of the story we see in the title pages for the manga that began at the end of Volume 4. I guess 4Kids skipped them because the censors had a problem with the whole cannibal thing going on for the main part of the second episode.

Wonder why they didn't do that to Sanji. That would make things a little more harder to swallow. As if it's not confusing enough..

I thought we stopped making that joke ages ago after the Battle City Finals ended. I'm taking a page from 4Kids and recycling material, in the same way 4Kids recycles music and bad puns.

They would have to of found/watched the episodes of "thin" Alvida on their own. 4Kids isn't too keen or likes their VAs watching the original works

It's pretty obivous that Marc has watched it in Japanese o rmaybe he's just read the manga but he likes to refer to his role as Zoro and that's good enough for me.

Marc Diraison has seen the original Japanese version. He apparantly mentioned it at the AnimeNext panel last week. He also said that he asked the voice directors at 4Kids if he should try to imitate the Japanese voice, but they told him no.

That's odd, since Maddie Blaustein said on the Pokemon 4Ever DVD Commentary that she watched the Japanese version (as well as versions of the show in various other foreign language). In addition, she said that she even incorporated the Japanese VA's performance in her own performance, which leads me to believe that the ADR people aren't as rigid as many of you are making them out to be.

Okay, now that's just dumb as hell. Why purposely try to deprive your own actors the source material to atleast get better understanding from? Guess that just comes with them being stupid.I think it has more to do with the actors instead of the directors. Eric Stuart said in an interview that he only read a paragraph of information on Seto Kaiba before coming up with a voice.

EDIT: Just saw it... it wasn't bad. I noticed that 4Kids edited the Loguetown sign to change the L to an R, but finally, FINALLY, they are keeping English text - not just signs that you see constantly, like "Baratie" or "Arlong Park", but even store signs. This always confused me considering 4Kids's license of One Piece only extends to English speaking countries.

Smoker (I will never call him "Chaser") had a good voice, and Tashigi... I expected it. It's probably being used to connect Tashigi and Kuina, and only further builds upon my theory about changing Tashigi to Kuina in a future episode (Zolo: "You got amnesia, Kuina! COME BACK TO MEEEEEEEE"). Music sucked... they played the "Gold Roger's Theme" (meh) like, 10 times in the entire episode? They had some silence, when Luffy and Smoker were talking in the beginning, but that was the only thing that really stood out for me. 4Kids really needs better composers.

And I hope they eliminate the rap theme in Season 2.

They'll have to sometime. They sure can't fit a mention of EVERY Strawhat into the rap, if you know what I mean....:D

Then why isn't it spelled Tashgi? It has to do with Japanese phonics. In japan, there is no "SH", but there is "SHI". And besides the "i" IS in the name. It's hard to hear, but if you pronounce the name, you'll hear that the "i" is used as a sort of ending to the "sh" sound.

It was explained in the episodes they skipped. At least, they did say her name and that she was a pirate. They didn't explain WHY until later, so he spoiled nothing.

I'm going to just make a quick prediction here...

It looks like 4Kids is just going to burn through Roguetown and condense it into four episodes. Dub 43 will be where Sub 53 ends. They don't seem to be too big on filler arcs, as their Buggy cutting shows (even though it was somewhat important), so we'll probably lose Apis... that's 7 and a half episodes. As a result, the last half of 61 and all of 62 will probably be merged. Down by 18, dub 44.

Whiskey Peak? The title speaks for itself. Anyone who doesn't think it's going to get hacked... well... meh. 63-67 become 45-47 (or even 46). The last five episodes in the dub's first season will all probably be splicejobs, because it looks like 4Kids justs wants to finish the series as soon as possible. 77 into 52... ouch...

Of course I could be completely off...

KuwabaraTheMan
07-07-2005, 02:12 AM
I don't think they'd stop at 77, might as well go to 79 since that's the end of Little Garden IIRC.

It doesn't even look like they're having seasons, though, just that they're airing episodes continously.

As for seasons... YTV said that they have the first season consisting of 52 episodes according to Pepperidge..

Andrew T. Hingson
07-07-2005, 03:16 AM
That's probably the episode order for CN US as well. Which could mean reruns on Toonami... ugh... the horror. Stick on weekdays already, it needs more exposure if they want to make it a hit.

Though Toonami AU and Toonami UK both stopped at episode 25 so maybe they got jipped as usual or they just stopped premieres for a rerun and will start them back up soon.

Andrew T. Hingson
07-07-2005, 03:23 AM
I don't think they'll cut out THAT much. They'll probably cut the season off at the end of Apis. So the next season starts with them heading into the Grand Line. Then the next 52 will cover everything up to Skypea. I guess they could go all the way past Little Garden... but only if they cut out Apis almost entirely. And I really do think they'll keep at least most of Apis.
