If you've been picking up the recent issues of Superman, you'll likely notice that there's a little sheild missing. Ya know - that shield with the year & number on that has been on almost every Superman comic for the past ten years or so? Well, Superman Homepage caught up with Superman titles editor Eddie Berganza about this:

"They're going bye-bye due to the nature of the unconnected stories. In the future storyline titles will connect not triangle/shield numbers."

This is a bold move for DC Comics, who have kept the numbering on the titles for many years. With the numbers now being used for crossovers, readers will no longer be burdened with having it pick up all the issues to keep up.
