A while ago, (I think July, 2003, yikes!) Miramax and the newly formed Archie Entertainment branch of Archie Comics announced that there would be a Betty & Veronica movie. There was supposed to be a nation wide talent search, looking for both the perfect Betty & Veronica and people for the band "The Archies."

When I heard this I thought it was an awful idea, especially considering the relatively recent flop that was the "Josie & the Pussycats." Still, I grew up reading Archies, and the thought of relaunching the franchise was intriguing. However, I haven't heard any news since, so does anyone know what's happening to this project?

Edit: here's the link (http://www.archiecomics.com/arcoment_offices/press_releases/030723press_release.htm) to the original press release.

i actually thought the josie n the pussycats movie wasn't too bad...the whole spoof on advertising and commercialism was pretty funny, the songs were okay and everyone was cast really well. especially alexandra..even though she wasn't in most of the movie...rachel leigh cook as josie had the annoying confused deer in the headlights look through most of it, and of coarse no trademark leopard outfits:crying: lol.. but otherwise it was good...if this movie does get made and it has the same style n humor it shouldn't be a bad flick.

An Archie movie should come first before any spin-off movies. Let's get the main man himself established in the franchise in all his red headed glory before his girlfriends get their own feature.

Josie was hideous. The movie was 49% them singing, 50% them screaming, 1% plot. "Betty and Veronica" would have been just as lame, I suspect.

I don't know what the plot to a straight-on Archie movie would be. With Josie, the music climate wrote its own story. Archie isn't what you would call a contemporary teenager...can you dig that, doll?

They did an Archie (tv) movie in the early 90s. it was done like a television sitcom reunion movie with the characters all older, returning home for a big event (it's been a while since I've seen it but I think Veronica was getting married. Not sure though) so the characters were all quite a bit older. Jughead had a son.

I saw that movie, and I don't think they would want to do that kind of thing in the theatre--age Archie ten years.

The most interesting thing about that movie was that Moose became a chiropractor (and married Midge, and they both beat up on Archie whenever he got tense, only this time he was paying for it) and his door said "Moose Mason, Chiropractor." Are we ever going to know that guy's real name? Was he NAMED "Moose"?

So I gather no one knows anything about this project.

I suppose it's dead, then.
